  1. Our time to repeat is mainly in 2006 and 2007. It makes sense to go for it. We won't have Garland, Contreras, Buehrle, and Garcia forever. Yeah, but that's because Terry Ryan HAS to keep his prospects. The Twins have a small payroll. If they had our payroll, I guarantee you that Ryan would be dealing more of his prospects for established players just like KW. Afterall, for teams with decently-sized payrolls that's what prospects are for.
  2. I don't miss Reed at all but that would have been nicer. Not that Reed was anything special other than a defensive stud last year. His offense was putrid.
  3. I thought the Mariners never wanted Borchard? I seem to remember that they wanted Olivo and either Reed or Crede?
  4. I wish we would have sent the Diamondbacks Anderson instead if they would have taken him over Young. But keep in mind, KW loves Anderson.
  5. Eh, the title should be "Contreras may have been offered extension."
  6. Honestly, I wouldn't doubt that the Diamondbacks wanted Young over Anderson. I know I would if I were Arizona's GM.
  7. I would rather have done that but the problem is that Anderson is viewed as being MLB-ready right now while Young isn't. We need a center fielder now. KW must invision a future outfield of Owens in LF, Anderson in CF, and Sweeney in RF. It makes sense since Kenny seems to love Anderson. I definately don't see KW giving up anymore outfield prospects now.

  9. By the way, this deal is supposed to be announced some time today.
  10. No, they didn't. I know I've said it about 100 times by now but I'm hoping we get that $6 million ($3 million in 2006 and 2007) that the Yankees sent to the Diamondbacks.
  11. The Score also just reported at 3:00 A.M. that we are receiving money from the Diamondbacks in the deal.
  12. The only player I will miss will be Young. We WANTED to dump El Duque and his contract. And Vizcaino is mediocre to bad.
  13. I don't even want to think of the horrible season El Duque will have next year when that Arizona air makes his breaking stuff lifeless.
  14. If we keep Garland and use McCarthy as our long reliever/spot starter, we would only need to add a lefty if we went with an 11-man pitching staff.
  15. Hopefully, we are getting that $6 million that the Yankees sent the Diamondbacks. -$4.5 million (El Duque's 2006 salary) -$1.3 million (Vizcaino's 2005 salary; will earn a bit more via arbitration) --------------- -$5.8 million total +$11.5 million (Vazquez's 2006 salary) - $3.0 million (from Diamondbacks; originally from Yankees) --------------- +$8.5 million total - $5.8 million = +$2.7 million added to 2006 payroll +$12.5 million (Vazquez's 2007 salary) - $3.0 million (from Diamondbacks; originally from Yankees) --------------- +$9.5 million total added to 2007 payroll So if we get that $3 million in 2006 and 2007 from the Diamondbacks that they got from the Yankees, Vazquez will add $2.7 million to our 2006 payroll and $9.5 million to our 2007 payroll.
  16. WE ARE GETTING MONEY IN THE DEAL!!! YAY!!! http://www.nynewsday.com/sports/baseball/m...ports-headlines
  17. I'm hoping we are getting that $6 million from the Yankees.
  18. "Get me the f*** outta here first, asshole!!!"
  19. He still gave up way too many baserunners. He was always a hit or a deep fly away from blowing a game. That's why Ozzie had to use him at the back end of the bullpen. There has to be a similar option within the organization or available via free agency.
  20. Not a big loss, IMO. Vizcaino was the reliever version of El Duque. Vizcaino was also eligible for arbitration and would have been due for a raise on his $1.3 million salary of last season. Vizcaino had a 1.47 WHIP, 5.52 K/9, and 3.72 BB/9 last season.
  21. Doesn't the air in Arizona also mess with a pitcher's breaking stuff?
  22. The way I look at this trade is it basically being Chris Young for Javier Vazquez, if the CBS report that a second pitcher (probably a reliever) is involved is false. We WANTED to dump El Duque and his salary anyways.
  23. And don't forget, guys. Because Vazquez demanded a trade, we will have him for 3 years. We will have him signed for 2 years and have arbitration rights to him in 2008. Because he demanded a trade, he gave up his right to become a free agent after 2007.
  24. Well, we subtract El Duque's $4.5 million for 2006 and add Vazquez's $11.5 million in 2006 and $12.5 million in 2007. So that's $7 million added to our payroll in 2006 and $12.5 million added to our payroll in 2007. I still hope the Diamondbacks are sending us the Yankees $3 million per season for Vazquez's contract. That would make Vazquez's contract a little easier to stomach.
  25. We all have to remember that Garland's impending trip to free agency after 2006 shoots down his trade value a great deal, especially when teams throw 5-year, $50+ million contracts at him.
