Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped
George Offman of the Score just repeated this rumor on the news update. It looks like they want to sign Mike Myers first so they can then go ahead and trade Marte.

IF the don't sign Paulie
I think they would have taken Gio Gonzalez and Daniel Haigwood for him.

IF the don't sign Paulie
Overbay is available and the Brewers want young, cheap starting pitching. We just gave that up for Thome. Overbay is overrated anyways. Good OBP but do you really want only a 20 homerun guy at 1B/DH?

Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped
Sorry, I thought I was posting it in the Trade Winds forum. Marte by himself isn't going to get a Pierre, Glaus, or Blalock unfortunately. Prospects would have to be included.

Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped
He used Cotts and especially Marte the same way. Ozzie seems to think that lefties can only get lefties out. The strategy would work perfectly with Myers because lefties are the only guys he can get out.

Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped
I guess the Rangers and Diamondbacks would also be very interested in Marte considering their bullpens sucked last season. This would make some sense with the rumor that the Sox fallback plan on Konerko leaving could be Troy Glaus or Hank Blalock. Look at his splits against lefties. Myers owns lefties but righties kill him. Ozzie would only use him against lefties.

Sox interested in Mike Myers; Marte being shopped
George Offman of the Score is reporting that the Sox are shopping Damaso Marte and are interested in lefty Mike Myers. I guess some of us were right about Myers. I wonder if a trade of Marte and prospects for Pierre is coming.

IF the don't sign Paulie
Who? A healthy Frank or Nomar maybe?

IF the don't sign Paulie
The sad thing is that none of those moves would improve our lineup more than keeping a .900+ OPS, 40 HR, 100 RBI to bat next to Thome.

IF the don't sign Paulie
And what would that be?

The Score is reporting that the Angels have offered Konerko 5 years, $65 million.

Bulls
Are you serious? Michael Sweetney >>>>> Tim Thomas Thomas doesn't play any defense and doesn't rebound. All he can do is shoot. Sweetney can rebound and score inside.

IF the don't sign Paulie
The latest offer to Giles was reported to be 5 years, $55 million by the Blue Jays. Why wouldn't we just spend $5 more million and re-sign Konerko? He's 5 years younger than Giles and he plays a position where we currently have a hole. Giles at that price would make no sense over Konerko for $5 million or so more.

IF the don't sign Paulie
On the Score, George Offman is saying that the backup plan to losing Konerko could be Troy Glaus or Hank Blalock. Looks like they want someone who can play third base. Crede's back must not be too healthy.

A's sign Esteban Loaiza
Zito will likely be traded now: http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_3261394

IF the don't sign Paulie
Why do you think that Uribe could bat second? Would you bat Crede second? They put up similar numbers and while Uribe is faster than Crede, he's still an awful basestealer.

IF the don't sign Paulie
He would be Carl Everett Part 2. Set your sights higher.
-
Paulie's offer
Our lineup was worse last season. But I even admitted that we would need another big bat.

The most money the Sox will have to pay Thome, if his 2009 option vests, is $37 million over 4 years. That's quite a bit better than paying Giles $55 million over 5 years. Keep in mind that a healthy Thome (.970 career OPS & 430 career HR's) is more productive than Giles (.954 career OPS & 246 career HR's). There is more of a health risk involved with Thome than Giles but it's a risk worth taking. Thome has only had one significant injury-plagued season, last year.

IF the don't sign Paulie
Matt LeCroy only hits lefties. He would be a poor option.

Paulie's offer
This lineup wouldn't be all that bad but you're probably right. It looks like we'd be missing a big stick in the middle of the lineup. Podsednik LF Mueller DH/3B Thome 1B Dye RF Iguchi 2B Pierzynski C Crede 3B/DH Anderson CF Uribe SS

Paulie's offer
I agree with you. If Konerko leaves, I would re-sign Frank to a cheap contract. Then I would sign Bill Mueller and re-sign Ross Gload. If Frank gets injured again, Mueller could DH, bat second, and back up Crede. Gload could play some first base and also DH.

What will Giles be, 39 years old by the time that contract is up? :headshake
