QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) The only ones I am somewhat rude to are the police fundraising drives they do about this time of year. But then I am only rude to them because they are never courteous to me, and are always a pain to get off the phone with. I went off on them once because it was the third call I received that week, all from a different police organization. Fraternal Order of Police Fund, State Police Fund, Fallen Officers Fund. She told me, "We're all different and it's up to you to decide who best suits your donation." I said, "I'm too lazy to do that, so by triple dipping, you all lose!" The only other two times I went off was when one called before the 9am time limit. I gave her a break, though because I think her computer was off due to the screwed up Daylight Savings Time in Indiana. Then once when they called on a Sunday: "You've got to be kidding me! You're calling me on a Sunday? What is wrong with you people?" I think he got that a lot that day because he just replied, "Yeah, I know." Other than that, I usually say, "No thanks" and hang up.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) It isn't just wilderness. If your daily commute or trip places you on a couple mile stretch of farm roads, that's where the drifting can happen. It may not be about survival, but comfort while you wait for help. For almost zero cost, and a few minutes time, you could have the peace of mind knowing you are prepared. Exactly. Wasn't there a story a year or so ago where an old man went off a busy interstate into an uncut cornfield and wasn't found for weeks?

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 08:12 AM) Do you have to open all of the beers and then pour them in there? Seems that would cause them to be less than "good" by the end of a night. Yeah, no kidding. It says it keeps it cold. Big frickin' deal. I've got a cooler filled with ice for that and it didn't cost me a hundred bucks!
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 08:08 AM) I heard he kept asking Dorthy if she wanted to see his feathersword... OK, now you've gone too far!
  6. That's crap that Captain Feathersword doesn't get mentioned. He's way cooler than Dorothy the Dinosaur!
  7. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Nov 22, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) Fixed that for ya!! Thanks.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) Probably. But not definitely. On rare occasion, some people make dramatic changes in their lives and their fundamental beliefs. Sure, but I'm not going to put him in charge of the church collection. Just like a recovering alcoholic should not work as a bartender.
  9. My three wonderful, pain in the ass, beautiful, bratty, cute, crabby, hilarious girls. (Anyone with kids knows what I mean) I'm also thankful for my friends, my job that I love, my wife, the weather and this great country.
  10. We used to. Until I started to have kids and needed to make sure I was healthy enough to go to work on Monday morning.
  11. I was going to post something semi-serious, but I guess I got it too late.
  12. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) I hate to be a stick in the mud...or eye...but I agree about the work aspect. You talkin' to me?

Deep down I love it, but I hate the way I got it. I was one of the last holdouts in the company and HR kept on my ass - "It's easier for me, wah wah wah!" Little did she know that's the reason I wouldn't sign up - she was all about her and even though I knew the benefits she never went that route. Finally my wife made me do it.
  14. I think they said they found a 5th in the wreckage.
  15. I've used plenty of sick days at this job. Only one was I actually sick. 95% of the others were used when the trains were running 1 hour or more late and I just said "screw it."
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) OK, you lost me on those two points. I'd have to disagree. They weren't going to win many other seats this cycle, in the current environment, and I'd like you to point out a Dem for me that is more conservative than the Republican they beat. I don't know how many seats they could have won. I just know they won plenty without a clear message. Just think what a good campaign woul dhave done. Heath Schuler is supposed to be pretty Conservative.

    Religion

Obviously she didn't have enough faith.
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) Agreed on all points. And another thing... a much better organized Democratic party with a clear goal would have won 5 more Senate seats and maybe 15-20 more House seats, IMO. We (Republicans) should be thankful the Democratic party is such a mess right now. I mean look at a lot of the Dems that won - they're more Conservative than their GOP opponents.
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) I'd just like to add that sometimes, for either party, a candidate doing what they think is right does indeed take them towards the middle. Some people are moderates (on a net basis) because they are doing just that - sticking with what is right, not just following a party line. Moderate isn't necessarily unmotivated. Hard-liner isn't necessarily morally grounded. Lieberman, Ford (who lost), Romney, McCain are all examples of that. They have views that fall into both parties, not just one, but they stick with them anyway (well, McCain seems to be sliding right to get the GOP base, but he's basically a moderate). I didn't mean to make that assumption. I meant to just point out the "Revolution" of 1994 was a farther right win. They had a clear message and were elected to execute that message. They failed and I believe the result is what we saw last night. I refuse to believe that this election was an endorsement of Dems more than it was a rejection of the "same ol' same ol'"
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) I have always been a volunteer. I have always been a big believer in doing, instead of talking. I have worked as a ref at our Y for years, and as a youth group leader in a religious group. It also sounds like I am going to be a mentor for a kid without a father. How scary is that? I'm sure he'll have 5,000 posts by June.
  21. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) Oh for the Republican Party in 2008. We couldn't even get John Kerry to help us out enough this time around. It could be a good thing. Personally, I think they got too comfortable since 1994 anyway. They needed a wakeup call and hopefully this is it. The base hasn't been motivated for years. You want to motivate them? Lead! Don't go to the middle. Don't concede and "be friends." Do what you think is right. Do what we elected you to do. Do it because you believe it's right not because you're afraid to lose your job.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) Bush to Nancy, let's do lunch at my place I wouldn't expect anything less from him. It's really cool to see the calm, peaceful transition of power in our country. It's a testament to the vision of the founders.
  23. Great job, Mike. Hopefully you've at the very least opened some eyes in Michigan City.
  24. Reese Witherspoon and now Britney. I'm going to have to have a long talk with my wife about an open marriage.
  25. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) Receipt? What is this "receipt" of which you speak? I fed my left-leaning scantron sheet into the reader and that was that. No receipt, just the ever-popular "I Voted" sticker and a scowm from the front office folks at work when I came in late. Happily, an uneventful and rather pleasant pollinng station experience for me though. What is this "sticker" of which you speak? I've never got one! Cheap assed Hoosiers!
