QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) He should give a raise to the speech writer that came up with that, it did make me smile. And as always, I know I'll be kicked out of the Dem party here, but on a personal level, I've always liked Dubya. Yeah, but you like Kinky too, sooo....

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 07:45 AM) The problem with George is the hits are one after the other and who can keep up. Every writer wants him to do one of their songs and he has all the best material to choose from. Very similar to Elvis during his prime. Beaches of Old Mexico is one of my current favs of all time. Really cool video too. The guy that plays the young George Strait is spot on if you ask me.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 1, 2006 -> 07:28 AM) Program Directors Rex is getting all indie lingo on us. IIRC, Toby jumped on that little parade and blew it much bigger. Perhaps it would have been that big all on it's own, but Toby pumped a lot of life into it. How do you like the new George Straite? You mean George Strait? George Strait can do no wrong.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) You know what's funny? I remember talking to a few country PDs after the whole Dixie Chicks thing - and going after the President isn't what turned off a lot of country fans on the Dixie Chicks - it had a lot more to do with their feud with Toby Keith at the time actually. The "Boycott Dixie Chicks" movement didn't get the head of steam til they started fighting with TK. PDs? I listen to a lot of country music, hell, 60% of the 2000+ songs on my Ipod are country and I have never heard about any feud between Toby Keith and the Dixie Chicks being the reason. The "Boycott the Dixie Chicks" dealio was totally, 100% related to Natalie Manes' comments about Bush.

I chose "sometimes." I boycott Streisand movies because she's such an extreme lefty. Well, that and she sucks. But, seriously, it comes into play once in a while, but if it's something I've totally got to see I'll go see it anyway. And yes, I agree with the lot of you guys. I avoid products because of crappy commercials. I didn't eat at Taco Bell until they got rid of that damned dog! I also will never buy an RCA product since they stole the Hoosier Dome from me. I won't even say they name. I mean, come on, they could have called it the RCA Hoosier Dome for crying out loud!

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Well, that was a BS "debris" caution at the end. Oh well, I wouldn't expect anything else from NASCRAP. Did you see Robbie Gordon? "Yeah, looks like it came from behind the car."

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) I am a registered voter, and have been since the 1992 election. And you live in a smaller county than me. I've been called three times. Never been on a jury and have never been called into the box to be questioned. The first time I was called JD was 4 straight Mondays, the first being the Monday after I got married- good thing we were already putting the honeymoon off. One of the days I never got called into a court room and was out of there before 10:00. Sweet! Another the judge asked all his questions to everyone and said, "Do you have any "yes" answers to those questions?" while another judge asked all 15+ questions to each individual potential juror. Ugh! I never got called up and was still in the courtroom for 3 hours.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) I always thought it was a shame that Gould's popular writings on evolutionary theory overshadowed those of Dawkins. In truth, I think Dawkins' stuff was more accessible for a lay audience. Dawkins also was able to see the selective value in "looking like half-a-turd" whereas the eternal punctuated equilibrium proponent Gould could not. The Selfish Gene and The Blind Watchmaker remain must reads for those interested in teh subject. I'm very much looking forward to reading his new book, The God Delusion, possibly over the holidays or if the imminent threats to cut my depertment at work come to pass. In the meantime, here's an engaging piece posted at Huffington where Dawkins shares his thoughts on "Why There Almost Certainly Is No God". Long, but worth the time if you have an interest. Sorry, Jim. I just thought it was ironic that you're going to read a book called "The God Delusion" over the "holidays."

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:42 AM) Absolutely. I did tell her something along that line when she asked me last night what to do, and if I thought writing the letter would be good. My initial advice was to write away.. get it out of her system.. then toss it. He's a waste of oxygen that I wouldn't give the time of day to, but.. I was not his victim so I really have no clue how she feels as far as being violated again... OK, so we agree. Yeah, we can't possibly understand how she feels, that's why I say all this from a very ingnorant perspective.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) You didn't piss me off. I just don't see how give her the advice you posted would be helpful or productive. I'm not judging her in this matter. Just trying to be supportive. I guess I just thought going through all the BS again - by, rightfully so, trying to clear some things and her name up, might be too much of a pain in the ass to go through for what the end "gain" will be - which is? Does that make sense? QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) Insignificant? Not sure I would consider this insignificant. Annulments are given out WAY too easily by the Catholic church. As much as I adore(d) my late FIL, I still do not understand how he managed to get one after 30 years of marriage and 4 kids. According to the kids, you pay enough you get one. Without knowing (or wanting to know) the process, I am not sure how true that is. I don't consider an annulment insignificant. I considered the comment in the letter insignificant in the whole scheme of things. I'm just speaking from my perspective. I didn't put up with and go through what she did. I just thought that now that she's in a good relationship and happy this comment is not something to get upset about.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) Alrighty... Thanks eye. I'm sure you'll understand that I won't be sharing your response with her. Sorry if I pissed you off. It's just my opinion. I just thought the reason she didn't attend was she didn't want to relive all the BS - I agree with that. But, I think it's counter-productive to get upset about what was said there. She knew he would drag her through the mud and blame everything on her, why is she surprised?
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) I think she's ticked because, to her, it seems like the ex didn't share his "fault" in the breakdown of the marriage because if he had that would have not been put in there It's tough to be attacked (how she is seeing it) when she did nothing wrong, and even after everything he did to her still chose not to go for an annulment. I do wonder if it's standard and if the jerkoff's letter included it as well. If she's so concerned why didn't she attend the preceedings? I know - she wants to forget it all, well, then forget it! Let it go - it seems like she had (Been happily re-married for 5 years) - why can't she let this little insignificant thing go? I would bet his letter had the same comment.
-
Maybe it's me, but I don't think that sounds like, "You wacko bi---, you need to get straightened out." It sounds more like a paragraph that they put in every single annulment approval notification. IMO, your friend is over reacting, especially by taking little potshots at the Catholic church.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 07:19 AM) And I guess its refreshing to know that on the other side of the fence there are just as many narrowminded stereotyping elitists with nothing better to do than call people names rather than actually contribute anything to the discussion. Awesome, SS!

Hell, listen to the side effects at the end of these commercials.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Well, when you taste success but don't fully reach it.... and when your crosstown rival gets the trophy you've wanted for almost 100 years... suddenly ivy on the walls doesn't seem as important as being competitive. Bingo

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) I have worked for Republican campaigns ya know.... I'm just pointing out that you and NS have a comment about almost everything posted in here and it's usually a counterpoint. Maybe that's how the "Dems Only" thread goes too. I don't know. I don't go in there. I just think it's counter to what this thread was originally intended to be. Again, maybe I misunderstood.
