QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Exactly. We have to suspend freedom of speech when we are fighting a war. Never criticize the government. Damn hippy commies You know that's not what I'm saying, Tex. Many POWs from Vietnam said the vast coverage of discontent here only emboldened the enemy. That's the road we're heading down again. I don't know the answer. I just think cuttin and running at this time is not ideal.

If Iraq's not already Vietnam the media will make sure it is by putting crap like this on during the war. Did we not learn anything?

Has anyone else seen this video they've been showing this morning? Apparently someone walked by a KFC / Taco Bell this morning in NY and saw a bunch of rats running around - like 6 or more of them. They called the news to come get some video of it. It's been all over the news shows this morning. I've seen it on CNBC of all places. Nasty, nasty stuff!!

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 08:03 AM) I think its interesting that the assumption is, because this guy dislikes Republicans, he must be a Democrat. There are other options you know. But I did find the article, and Dog's line about Republicans in VA, sort of humorous. People are dumb. What? Like an Independent? Like they are really any of those.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Awwwww, poor baby. My dad recently got bifocals. He said it took about two weeks to adjust and after that he said it was great and he had no problems. But I've still got my better than perfect 20/10 vision. I've got 20/10 as well, Soxy.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 06:49 PM) Jeff Burton seriously showed his driving skills today getting through 3-4 wrecks. It was scary seeing Clint pull a Sadler and then catch fire. I hope Josh Yost is okay - he busted butt recovering from his pit road incident (When Rusty hit him, all his tendons and ligaments in his ankle were severed). I also hope the crewman the 26 took out is okay - all they've been saying is that he is alert and they had ice on his ankle on his way to the infield care center. It hurt to see the 21 starting to move up only to be taken out while he was minding his own business. I saw that happen and the announcers never said a thing and then I never heard an update. At first I thought he got his leg run over.

Update: We didn't go at all. The weather was just too bad. I wasn't about to take 3 kids under the age of 5 out in it. (The other two were going to a babysitter) We got more then a foot of snow. Thanks for all your suggestions and opinions.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) I don't think it would be odd. My maternal grandparents both died recently and a lot of people brought kids (even some that weren't related to us) and the kids were a really nice diversion for us (the family). And they bring cheer and life to an otherwise not so cheerful and lively situation. Thanks, Soxy. That's a really nice thing to say. Well put.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) I'd bring her but watch how she handles it. Hopefully the crowd will be understanding of any questions that someone her age might ask. Some questions may even be shocking or inappropriate. Which later will be a hilarious family story. Has she asked to go? How did this become a decision? I would consider skipping it if she hasn't asked. She hasn't asked. I don't know if she even know we're going. She knows about wakes and funerals, though. (We live next to a funeral home) I think she can handle it. I guess the reason I ask is I don't want to be looked at funny by taking her. If it was her grandfather or someone closer I don't think people would think twice about it, but someone that's not a blood relative...

...to go to a wake? Our Parish Priest passed away Friday after a short battle with cancer. The wake is tonight. My 4 1/2 year old daughter was semi close to him - she'd talk to him and give him a hug every Sunday after mass. She says she understands what has happened and that he has gone up to heaven. She even had a girl in her school's Dad die from a heart attack and asked me if she could pray for him. (I held it together until I put her to bed and then cried my eyes out) So, would it be crazy to take her there? Yes, it's open casket. It's at the church, so it's not like we'd be staring at the body the entire time.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 12:27 PM) I still don't get how some kid took it all upon themselves to not stand. I mean if everyone in the class is always standing, how did some kid just come in one day and decide to buck the trend and see what happens. That's a ballsy little kid. Parents.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) With the recent ComEd increase, my electric is about the same (or possibly a little higher) than the gas. My recent comed bill was $140 and my recent People's Gas was $135. I am almost afraid to see what the summer ComEd bills will be like now. I've got NIPSCO in Indiana. Both are bills are on the same bill. Gas prices go up in the winter and down in the summer, electric is vice versa. But, gas goes up much more in the winter than electric goes up in the winter. Good point someone made about washing more clothes in the winter too, as I have a gas dryer and a gas water heater.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) I saw a UFO up in rural Michigan two summers ago. I really don't like to tell the story in person, because, well, people think I'm nuts. Luckily I was with a family member at the time so atleast there is one person who believes me. Anyway, I guarantee you what I saw was not of this earth. And judging by the actions of others in that area, we were not the only people to see something that night. I'll go ahead and use the typical "I wasn't a believer until I saw one for myself" line. I saw one too - when I was 11 with my Mom and step dad. We lived near a lake and coming home one night we saw lights over the lake. We couldn't see it because we were still behind trees. When we turned onto our street we stopped and got out of the car. It was huge, round and full of lights. It moved to our left out of view behind some trees. We ran to the right to watch it, but it wasn't there anymore. I remember my parents up most of the night discussing it while I tried to sleep. There was a story in the paper the next day about a UFO being reported in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan - all at 8:45 pm. I don't know if it was the same one or multiples. I do know what I saw and remember it like it was yesterday. Was it aliens? I don't know. Was it the government? I doubt it because there aren't any govt air fields near us and it's been 20+ years and they've haven't come out with anything close to this. I don't like to tell people in person either. I told my wife once and she looked at me like I was nuts. Neither of us has brought it up again. My Mom still confirms the story and has the article in a scrap book.

QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 10, 2007 -> 07:24 AM) There is so many of these computer animated films nowadays it takes a good damn movie to impress. If its not above and beyond its just another Ice Age. Take it back about Ice Age. I'd like to see another Cars too. I find myself asking my kids, "Are you sure you don't want to watch Cars again?"

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 12:25 PM) Unless you use A/C! - Summer does not save money. Discussion reopened. Gas costs WAY more than electricity. I'm on the budget and I'm always ahead in the summer and get behind in the winter.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) Quiet Commie BTW, good for you for standing up to the asshole parent. I kinda wish our system had more of those in a way, because our big problem is that the parents just don't care. I can't tell you how many parents my wife has talked to whose response was "Quiet, I'm on Soxtalk right now." Fixed

My energy costs are WAY less in the summer! - Summer saves money. End of discussion.
