The Great Debate Round 1
I think we got a little off base here with where we both feel this "extra" money should be spent. You believe the government should keep it and use it to better society as a whole. I believe government wastes too much of our money already and any "extra' cash is better spent in the hands of ordinary Americans. As far as the National Endowment of the Arts goes, I understand the benefits of art and culture in out Nation's youths. However, I also feel that programs like these are better suited to be funded privately and independently. This would thwart any controversy over offensive art displays, while saving some tax dollars that can be better spent on other projects or given back to the tax payers.

The Great Debate Round 1
QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) You agreed that some of the money put into the average person's hands would be saved. I believe that if that money is put into the government's hands and used on things such as improving the roads or schools, everyone will benefit, not just the person who would recieve the money. As I stated earlier, Society > Individual. Society > Individual? We shouldn't get any money back? Government should keep our paycheck and take care of roads, etc and then give us what we need? Isn't that Communism? I don't want to put words in your mouth, but it sounds like that's what you're advocating. Could you elaborate?

This is what's wrong with society today
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) It sucks for the kid and I feel sorry for him. But obviously they can't make an exception for him. You feel sorry for him? He broke the rules. IMO, the rule is lax. In my high school all athletes signed a sheet that said if they were caught drinking, smoking, etc, they'd be out for the remainder of the season. The kid's a Junior. Straighten up your act and come back next year.

Who needs a butt kicking
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) Anyone that carries a cell phone AND a pager. You see, when you have a phone, they can call you on that, not page you to find out where you are, so you can call them back. Also, you see, you can still screen calls because cell phones display the number of the person that's calling. See how that works? Actually, I have a personal cell phone and I have to carry a text pager for work.

Who needs a butt kicking
QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) anyone with a blue tooth cell phone ear piece... thank you for making the roads safer, potentially. BUT YOU LOOK LIKE A f***ING CYBORG! How about the people that wear them, but aren't talking to anyone? This guy on the train the other day wore one the entire way home - 45 minutes and never had a single call.

What have you been reading?
I never read fiction. I'm totally in to political and history books and religious / feel good type books. But, I ran out of books I haven't read at home and had to break down one day as I was heading out the door for the train. I took my wife's copy of Harry Potter. I used to tease her for reading these "kiddie" books. I'm on the third book now and hooked as can be.
