QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) Yeah, but my idea is tax deductible. My idea is smart-assed.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) That is the height of tacky. If it was me, I would show up with a card and a list of what I donated in their name to the local crisis shelter. Or a list of the things you bought them for the first shower.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) I don't think so either.. but according to etiquette.. it is. Boy, we screwed up then.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) That is actually one of the acceptable reasons to have another one. I don't think so. You get one. That's it. Ideally that one would be for twins - one boy and one girl.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) But but but it was Christmas, and she might have missed the presents!! That's OK, she can just throw another Christmas!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 10:34 AM) I know we are having the talk about getting one of us fixed right now. So many jokes, so little time. I think it's tacky to have another "Shower" and accept gifts. So what if it's the first girl / boy. We had out first daughter Jun 30 and our second Dec 27. Would it have been OK to have a shower because we didn't have any winter baby clothes?

QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) I was gonna guess my Soxtalk Awards trophy case, or even my Soxtalk Nominations trophy case. I'm right there with you. 3 years, 7000 posts, SoxTalk nominations...(sounds of crickets chirping)

I think what you're trying to say through all the $2 words and compound-complex sentences is that business men / corporations would abuse the land for their own personal gain. I have more faith in regulations and oversight. Put a cap on the amount of livestock per acre. Make an oil company tear down their buildings and return the land to a natural look when any oil has dried up. We already make logging companies plant trees and it has been a huge success.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 13, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) Hehe, turns out Cheney was hunting illegally. He will be issued a warning citation. (Carries no fine or penalty). But I can still taunt! A $7 quail stamp? But, he didn't shoot a quail, he shot a lawyer. How much is that stamp? Or do they pay you?

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 11, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) Also damn those people had 11 kids..... a little birth control helps :banghead I don't understand. What's that got to do with anything?
-
Like this, I guess.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) Can't say I ever ran into anyone from Lowell with black teeth. It's not like their entire teeth are black. There's black spots.
-
Yes, it's natural
-
Here It may be a natural fluoride.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) From too much flouride? Are you sure it wasn't some other chemical? That seems like a strange reaction. The only info I could find on too much flouride talked about skeletal problems with too much bone mass (and too brittle). Everything else I found is weird conspiracy stuff about Nazis and Communists. That's what I've always heard.
-
There's a town near me that had too much flouride in their water for years. All the people from there have black nasty teeth.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Case closed. Nice knowin' ya, Yas!

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) And furthermore...why are we so prepared to go to another country, any country, and fight a war (good or bad) and we can't be prepared in our own backyard? That's the question I have. Just because this battle was against nature and we were sure to lose, doesn't mean we can't be prepared for it. It took many many months to go to Iraq. We didn't go in overnight. Plus, we're in Iraq being "proactive instead of reactive." Isn't that what you want? Isn't that what will make you happy? Or is that only when it comes to bashing Bush?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) An Admin can ban your cycloptic ass. A mod cant. Cycloptic? Wow. Impressive. Do they give vocab tests as well?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) If you don't put the responsibility on the shoulders of FEMA to properly respond to what the entire country saw, then what's the point of them preparing at all? Your argument is dangerous. I expect FEMA to act like what it is - the world's foremost emergency management agency. If they can't read a damn weather report (which all clearly pointed out DAYS before hand that it would likely become a C4 or 5, and would be at or near NO), then fire the decision makers and get someone in there who knows his a** from a rathole. You see, we can see into the future. I do it every time I turn on the weather channel. Oh yeah, and the weather report has never been wrong, that's a weak example. Brown's out at FEMA, that's what your advocating. I agree with it. Now, if these same mistakes are made again I'm gonna be pissed. Kinda "Fool me once..." I disagree that "the entire country" saw what was going to happen. Hindsight is great, isn't it? Anyway, are you guys watching this? Brown is already getting s***ty and hasn't been being questioned that long.
-
:headshake Another reason why I pretty much leave it on the History Channel.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Oh come on - you don't fault them? It was obvious to me, and others I knew, that LA was in for the storm of the century. It was all over the bloody news for days, and all the NOAA and other tracks put a C4 or C5 hurricane squarely on New Orleans. And oh yeah, the city SAID the levees may not be able to hold a C4, let alone a C4 hurrincane. This was all BEFORE the storm hit. It was utter and complete incompetence. No, I do not believe there was any bit of malice, or even a lack of caring, on Bush's part. Bush was a little slow in pushing things along, but really I only fault him for one thing: his laughably idiotic placement of Brown at the head of FEMA. The biggest blame absolutely falls to him, and the rest of the FEMA structure. And yes, they could have done many, many things that they did not, and that was clear well before the storm hit. And Mr. YAS, I am not sure where you get this state-first thing. But I've actually worked in law enforcement and EMS. Response to an unexpected disaster does indeed tend to cascade up the chain: local - state - fed. But that is just due to the nature of communications, not some rule or law, and thats for something unexpected. This was expected, and it was known that it would effect multple states and hundreds of municipalities. Therefore, the expectation of organization and command rightly falls to the Feds. Obviously, the state of LA screwed up too, and could have better handled its resources. But this was FEMA's screw up from the get-go. Yes, it was ll over the news for bloody days, but as I remember it wasn't predicted to be a direct hit on New Orleans until late. Nagin didn't declare an evacuation until less than 24 hous before landfall. Katrina wasn't updated to Cat 5 until exactly 24 hours before landfall and landed as a Cat 4. I refuse to believe that people, humand people, should be able to see the future. As I said, mistakes were made. Hearings and investigations will reveal that and correct it in the future. This was worse than anything they've ever had to deal with.

What's the difference between Mod and Admin?

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 09:13 AM) Something this big had happened before. In New Orleans, historically. Wasn't that prior to the formation of FEMA?
