The only time 2 out of 3 is good news is when you lose the first game.

How many consecutive bad games has Dam Marte had? Rick White is no longer the worst pitcher on the team.

I just read in today's sports section that Scott Rolen of the Cardinals is still sidelined with a neck injury sustained after a clumsy head first slide at home June 12th. I saw the replay, and it was quite a face plant. A few of us discussed this subject after Derek Jeter's sliding injury in April. Last year a Dodger infielder (Cora) almost broke his neck in a head first slide at second. I just don't understand why players continue sliding head first when it really doesn't get you there any faster and exposes you to such a serious injury. I wonder how sliding is taught to Sox players. Anybody (Rex) know?

Nossek's role on the pitchout was confirmed in the game story on the White Sox home page.

I didn't see the last out live, just the replay on ESPN, and Harris still scared the s*** out of me on the catch. He caught the ball about hip high with his glove open and facing the diamond. He could easily have bobbled it. I don't know if that was a hot dog display or not.

This kid has to be the best defensive first basemen in The Show. I'm watching the Rockies vs Detroit tonight, and twice Helton started double plays on tough chances. I hope some of you are able to catch the highlights on Baseball Tonight, if they are shown.

Hopefully, we'll see Brian Anderson's name in the box score this week end.

It was a pitchout. Perfect throw. Bang bang play at second.
-
Josh is making it tough to cut him. (again)

Just saw a brief report on him on ESPN. I might not have seen it correctly, but I thought I saw that he went 20-4 in 2001 in A ball in the Cubs system (before the Marlins trade). When that trade was made, I couldn't believe that the Cubs got Alfonseca and Clement for Tavares. Now I know why.

Caberra played left, went 1 for 5.

On Friday, Adkins got the win with 6 scoreless innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 1 K. Over his last 25.2 innings, no runs, scoreless, shutout ball. Now the ACE at Charlotte. Hope I didn't jinx him.
-
I'm surprised the Cubs did not pinch hit for Farnsworth in the fourth with MB on the ropes.
-
Thanks. My bad.
-
Has anyone noticed that Adkins has been pitching great lately? Maybe he turned the corner. Rex, got any comments?
-
Yesterday, I always felt that Garland was on the verge of losing it, even lthough it turned out that he was very effective. Today, it seems as if MB is in control and in charge. Hope I don't jinx him.

Sox fans are frustrated with CLee because everyone thought this would be his "break out" year, and it hasn't happened.

Great article on Sammie by Dave Krieger in today's Rocky Mountain News. Hope I did the link correctly. http://rockymountainnews.com/drmn/columnis..._83_130,00.html

Caberra is BA's number 1 prospect.
-
I asked a similar question during the off season and was roundly chastised. My answer would be about this time next year.
-
Alomar is coming off his re-hab stint at Charlotte. Some one has to go. Rick White has probably saved his own ass.

1. What was he on probation for? Steroids? 2. They came into his house?

TO: CWSOX. When I referred to FDR, I was not trying to pit Republicans vs Democrats. Furthest thing from my mind. And the theory that Hoover and Harding were as equally culpable as FDR does not hold water. Frankly, I don't know when the old Negro League even came into existence. But I mentioned FDR for a couple of reasons. One, he was President during my lifetime, so I can relate to him a lot better than Teddy Roosevelt, Coolidge, Harding, etc. Secondly, he was the last elected president prior to the breaking of the Color Line. Plus, he was in office for such a long, long time. He had by far the greater opportunity to address a national disgrace that was getting worse by the year. FDR was smarter than most of his predecessors, and he should have known better. And if HST had anything to do with breaking the Color Line, and I would not be the least surprised, then I salute him, although most of the credit has gone to Rickey, Veeck, and Chandler. I meant to respond earlier, but I had trouble getting on the board, and I forgot. And I did not mean to strike a political nerve. You are correct when you said that if FDR had intervened, he would have been criticised. He could have handled it. Any implied criticism that I made of FDR in this thread originated with my belief that all of us would have been better off had he forcefully addressed the situation as President, and it has nothing to do with the many other issues he successfully faced while in office.

I read yesterday in Baseball America that it was unlikely that the Sox would sign either Veal (12th rounder) or Greg Moviel (15th rounder) because of commitments to college (Arizona and Vanderbilt).

There probably are Larry Doby columns all over the country. A really good one today (Friday) is in the Denver Post by Woody Paige. I don't have the link handy, because I get the paper delivered. Go to www.denverpost.com then click on sports, then columnists, then Paige.
