Chicago White Sox 2003 Draft Thread (Day One)

If he is not represented by Boros, he should be signable. -
Wouldn't it help if we sent certain established players down to the minors, if we are able to do so? For example, right now Konerko and Crede are doing nothing to help themselves or the team. PK is below the Mendoza line, and Crede can't be too many at bats from joining him. Send them both down to Charlotte until they get straightened out. If it happens in just 4-5 games, bring them back. Maybe a move like that would shake up a few players and remove some complacency. What can it hurt, other than the pride of whoever gets sent down?

If the Sox are going to replace JM in season, and, since we have to interview the obligatory 4-5 diverse candidates to avoid a multi-million dollar fine, can this be done secretly to dispel romors, or will it be done overtly?

Will Anderson be on the four year plan or the five year plan, because we certainly don't want to rush him with all the talent that we have. -
I still remember JM's first interview in which he said the team will play National League style baseball.
-
Next year we will have a top three pick.

Pete Gammons just called our White Sox a "dying team."
-
Since KW is obviously reluctant to either fire Manuel or cut Rick White, here is a suggestion. Let them switch jobs. That sound you hear is the D-Backs licking their chops.
-
When does the "Q" word become part of our vocabulary. I didn't see the game, so I hesitate to comment.
-
I think we need one. Did the Sox expect to lose, or am I imagining things? Did we get any more profound thoughts from Maggs after this loss? Pretty soon we will see the Q word with this team.
-
Yeah, but, even if we draft him and he does well, he will be on a 5-6 year development plan, and after three years in A ball, he will be deemed too old. As long as we don't rush him.
-
Move the White Sox to Denver. They can share space with the Rockettes. That's the only way the offense will improve.
-
He didn't want to play in Colorado, and he won't want to play in Chicago either. Remember, he still gets paid, and he gets to live where he wants. Just another case of a GM getting outsmarted by an agent.

Jason, your proposed trade with the Giants hit a snag within just two days (trading Bart and Flash for young pitchers). Two of your selected targets (Ainsworth and Foppert) just cooled off the red hot Rockies with lights out performances. I don't think those guys are available.
-
I hope the Sox are smart enough to know which of these kids are represented by Boros.
-
There is too much talent on this team.

About 10-15 years ago the Nuggets listed two black Americans as "controlling" owners. One guy was named Peter Bynoe, and for the life of me I can't remember the other name. I think it was a set up and a sham. Don't want to go into the details, because they are potentially embarrassing, and I'm not totally sure of the facts. I do know they left town amid some controversy.

I had a senior moment when I called him Gary. Terry, for sure. I believe he took over in Atlanta when Don Baylor was hired by the Cubs. Could be wrong, could be another senior moment. All by pals in Atlanta think he is the greatest. Really works with the hitters, every day. You can see it on the bench. A hitter makes out and he sits down with TERRY right away and they all listen. Plus, there is the Reinsdorf Factor: since he would be a first time manager, he wouldn't cost as much (compared to Valentine). He has leadership written all over him. Someone will get him soon.

Terry Pendleton, hitting coach for the Braves. I always liked the way this guy played the game; smart, aggressive, team player, lots of respect from his teammates, MVP one year. He played well with the Cards, and then when the Braves got him, he made an immediate impact. Plus, and this is no small deal, he is a great hitting coach. For whatever reason, I have not heard his name mentioned, possibly because he is under contract. Maybe Jason can use his influence with KW.
-
I have a basic question about minority hiring that should be able to be answered without emotional outbursts. When did this multiple interviewing rule get instituted? Was it just this year? When the Cubs fired Don Baylor last year and replaced him with Bruce Kimm, there was no fine.
-
I have a buddy in Cleveland who is as hard core a Tribe fan as I am a Sox fan, and he really knows his s***, so I don't mind listening to him. Of course, we have running bets when we play each other. Since I could not see the game, I asked him what happened when JM got tossed. He said two things. 1) When JM got tossed he just turned and walked away, whereas Coach Kimm went screaming and fighting all the way; and 2) The plate umpire was awful the entire game in Cleveland's favor.

Glover's been getting worse and worse. He might be competing with Rick White before too long. Everyone seems to like him, but I just don't see his redeeming qualities as a big league pitcher. Even Jason Gage, in his recent engaging piece, wants to keep Glover after reshaping the Sox roster.
-
You're right. I think we have to stick with JB in center and leave Harris at second, either here or in Charlotte.
