  1. Farnsworth gets 3 games, Wilson 5.
  2. Now it looks like we might catch Kerry Wood for Snday's game. He will have had four day's rest. We'll probably get Clement, Zambo, and Wood.
  3. I don't see Glover being in the organization next year.
  4. It's even worse to be a hypocrite who doesn't mean what he says.
  5. The problem with the shortstop position isn't this year, it's next year. We'll get by for the rest of 2003, but Jose will be a year older and slower next year, and his skills will further deteriorriate. If I were the owner, I would not want to have to pick up that $5 MM option for 2004 on Jose. Believe it or not, the best option on the current roster/organization for shortstop in 2004 is Tony G. We need to make a trade sometime soon.
  6. He wouldn't cost much. The Rangers want to dump salary, period. They would probably take Daubach for him.
  7. Regarding Drew, I will always hold it against him for the way he and agent Boras handled that Phillie draft episode. I know, it's a free country, and no one HAS to sign with whoever drafts you, but they made it so contentious. It's not like the Phillies didn't offer a reasonable signing bonus or anything. It's as if they (Drew/Boros) thought that they were bigger than the game. The entire draft mechanism is there for a reason, ostensibly to make the Game better, and it is there with the full cooperation of the Players Union. I just don't like him and his agent.
  8. What if the Cards take Konerko, too?
  9. After a fast start, shortstop Valido has not played for 3-4 games at Bristol. Anybody know the story here?
  10. Another strong outing for Adkins. First run in 30 innings.
  11. Rex, appreciate the minor league info every night. Tks.
  12. Greg: I don't follow the Hawks at all. Nor the Bears or Bulls. Just the Sox (and Cubs by default). I never lost my passion for the Sox. It's a sickness.
  13. Juan has two MVP's, I believe. One should not count, however. I don't remember what year, but it was when ARod won the batting title in Seattle. He hit .355 or so. Great year, but he tailed off in the last two weeks. Anyway, the MVP was between ARod and Gonzo. I'll check the stats when I'm done here, but I thought Arod would win it hands down. Two writers in every town vote. One writer in Seattle voted for Griffey, and some other idiot meant to vote for Pudge Rodriguez. Instead, he voted for Gonzo because he got confused by the two Spanish surnames. Gonzo won narrowly. The writer admitted his gaffe. Believe it or not.
  14. Yeah, Koch got the job done, and that's what counts. We are the most paranoid people on earth, especially when we have a one run lead late. Did Koch get over 90 on the gun?
  15. Roman: I have to go by memory, and it ain't easy. But Espo came up with the Hawks after Hull had already established himself as the stud of the century. In Espo's rookie year they put him on the line with Hull half way thru the season, and Espo picked up about 35 or so garbage goals in front of the net and he helped Bobby to a really big year. So they trade him to Boston, where he goes on to a hall of fame career. If he had stayed in Chi with Bobby they would have both been in their primes for YEARS together. Bobby probably would have gotten 75 goals a year for YEARS, and Espo would have had his usual 40 or so--probably a lot more. He would have brought out the best in Bobby. Instead, Bobby's center was Chico Maki, who was about as good a hockey player as Paul Konerko. 8 goal Chico, I always called him. I figure the trade cost Hull about 30 goals a year for over 10 years. Not only did we lose Espo, but we also gave up Fred Stansfield and xxxx Hodge, two tremendous hockey players. They formed a nucleus with Bobby Orr for a decade or more. All we got was Pit Martin, whose only claim to fame was that he once challenged Gordie Howe to a fight and had the living s*** kicked out of him. Actually, Martin was alright, centering the old Scooter Line for years, but he wasn't close to any of those guys. Orr, Stansfield, Espo, Hodge, and Bucyk formed the best power play I have ever seen. The Brock trade is second. Sorry.
  16. 1 run, or 2? If he comes in with his 90 mile and hour straight fast ball pitching behind in the count............. Just get the save.
  17. Careful what you say about Jose. He might be here next year, too.
  18. An artery or two was blocked. Family history.
  19. I believe it can go as long as ten days, but it (free agency) can be shorter if mutually agreed.
  20. It will be interesting to compare Nanita, Anderson, King, and (hopefully) Sweeney in about 10 weeks.
  21. In an absolutely perfect world, I wonder how many of our draftees we want to sign, because there are only so many roster spots available, and we have a bunch of guys at Great Falls and Bristol who were signed last year. When do we see Anderson's name in a box score?
