  1. I just saw Guerrier's name in today's paper. He beat the Rockies AAA team last night 5-1. 8 innings, 5 hits, 3 K's.
  2. SI: That Esposito trade is the worst trade of all time, any sport. Not just for the players involved, but that trade probably took 250-400 goals away from Bobby Hull, who had to play for years with Chico Maki as his center. If Hull had remained linemates with Phil, they might never have broken his records. Why did you remind me of this trade. It is worse than the Brock trade.
  3. The Colorado Rockies have several top quality prospects, one of whom might be available for pitching. The kid I have in mind is outfielder Rene Reyes who is at AAA Colorado Springs. Now hitting around .350 and he has hit everywhere he has been. The Rocky outfield is set. Don't laugh, but if they can win a few on the road before the All Star break, they will think they have a shot. It would take a low priced pitcher who can step in and help now - someone like Garland who throws a good sinker. Reyes can step in and start for us right now. It would take some balls, but this kid can hit. Rockies have no financial flexibility. They would love to get rid of Todd Jones and his $3MM salary, since he can't get anybody out.
  4. Brando, Kelton is still a pretty good prospect, isn't he?
  5. Well, we are now down to 39 on our 40 man roster. If we want to bring up Miles or Gload, it's doable.
  6. Good question, Beverly. Why would a guy his age use steroids when you can't even go out? But 15 years???? Come on. No way, Jose? Much too severe.
  7. Since Juan Cruz was sent down to AAA, he has had 4 starts, is 2-0, 1.66 ERA, 21 innings, 13 hits, 20 K's. I wish I had some remote idea what the Cubs would be willing to give up for Valentine. Regarding their other top pitching prospect, Angel Guzman, we should be able to get a good scouting report on him, because he plays in the same league as Birmingham.
  8. In tragic cases like this, Baseball takes care of its own, to its credit. She is still collecting her husband's salary from the Cards, and she gets $160 K for life, plus all sorts of psycological support.

When it's a high number 1 pick, I certainly care, as do most people ( I think ).

I sense that the Sox Brass are losing faith in Jiminez -- just my gut feeling. I would not be surprised if Jose is back next year, even if he hits only .230 or so this year. We have no other options unless we trade for a hotshot SS prospect like Sanchez or we go after that Japanese kid, which would be totally out of character for the Sox. I have no idea what he would cost or even if we have scouted him. Anybody have info on that subject? At least we would not have to give up our 2004 number 1 draft pick for him.
  11. We won't be a factor this year without Colon. Since no one ever interviews this guy, we don't have any idea where he stands. Where does he want to pitch next year and beyond? Is it possible that we could not sign him even if we offered $10 MM per year? Who talks to this guy?
  12. I wonder how many times Nolan Ryan or Steve Carlton took themselves out in the 8th with a shutout working.

Signing Beltran = loss of high draft choice, $8-10 MM/yr, and sleeping wlith Scott Boros. Won't happen.
  14. I have lasked this question on other threads, but nobody ever answered. Why would Bartolo sign with us for next year and beyond?"
  15. I don't have much of a problem with Stone. He's pretty objective. He has too much respect for the game to be otherwise. His running mate needs a job change.

There are several minor leaguers coming up that will have to be protected on next year's 40 man roster or else be lost (Miles, Stumm, et al), but it looks as if there are plenty of players on the current 40 man roster that can be exposed to free agency without a big risk of losing them. I just wish I trusted the man in charge more that I do.

Where is our 40 man roster? I can't find it. Tks.

It's a bit early to begin speculating on our roster make up for next year, but there is one name who I think will be gone that no one ever mentions: Glover.
  19. I would stay with the 5 man rotation and give all five starters an extra day off. If JM starts thinking too much, he'll just f*** it up. Gotta keep it simple.
  20. Speaking of which (clutch), that was a clutch relay to the plate from Jose that was waaaay too wide. A big league SS, who has a pretty good arm to begin with, should make that play closer.
  21. Plus 32 walks. This will give all of us something thrilling to keep track of as the season winds down.
