Stark was somewhat negative. Regarding Alomar, he reported how Robbie has lost it from the right side, his overall average has gone down so much that he doesn't see how he can just "turn a switch" to get his skills back. Regarding Ev, he said that his average has gone way down after a quick start, and that his bat speed is questionable. Also expressed doubt about his ability to play center, which is what the Sox need. I'm sure we'll get a lot of scouting reports tonight.

I wish you guys wouldn't keep talking about draft picks next year for Alomar and Ev. We first have to offer them arbitration, and then they must refuse it. What happens if Ev hits .180, and we offer arbitration? He would accept it, because it would represent a guaranteed salary commensurate with his service time. Then we are stuck. Conversely, if he hits .380 with another 20 homers, we could offer arbitration, he could refuse, and we would then get a draft pick from his new team. Right now, there are no draft picks.

OldRoman, all I said was that both Rowand and Borchard were given big time opportunities in center, and neither one stepped up, until in the last 10 days when Rowand has improved his play. Obviously, it's too late for him for 2003. I said that if either JoeB or Aaron had played well from the start of the season, then this trade would not be deemed necessary. If Aaron had been hitting .270-.280 with some power and good defense and speed, all of which were expected, we would not be having these posts now.
