  1. After reading MoneyBall, Billy Beane convinced me one should not draft high school pitchers. I hope Honel proves both of us wrong.
  2. I wonder how teammates treat a player who did what Lugo did. Attitudes (among players) can't possible be as loose as they were 50 years ago.
  3. What in the world makes you think we have the lineup to play .665 ball the rest of the way?
  4. The charges against Lugo were NOT dropped. He went to trial and was acquitted, probably in large part to her testimony.
  5. Possibly. I was going to mention that, but I didn't want to start a debate on a non baseball issue. It probably depends on the temperature of the local DA. I don't expect it to happen.
  6. Lugo was acquitted for assault charges against his wife. She testified in his defense -- said she exaggerated original report.
  7. What are our financial committments to KW?
  8. The Mets are certainly restocking their minor league system with the trades for Benitez, Burnitz, and, of course, Bobbie Alomar.
  9. A lot of people turned the game off when they heard the pre-game singer.
  10. Back to Juan Cruz: He is probably one pitcher who was rushed to the bigs too soon.
  11. I don't think there is a GM in baseball who would take on Everett as a centerfielder (other than KW).
  12. Rex, I think you are too sensitive on this booing issue in the all star game. I have heard real booing before, and what I heard Tuesday evening was pretty mild. It was so mild that it was almost good natured booing. Even the players booed (booees?) were laughing, because they could sense the slightly humorous vein in the light hearted booing of some traditional rivals. I don't boo either; it's too much trouble, but it is a traditional way for some fans to express themselves.
  13. Top Ten???? Anybody who knows anything about baseball would have him in the top 10 AL outfielders.
  14. Juan Cruz is an enigma. When he came up two years ago, I thought he would be tremendous. Big time movement on his fastball. Then in 2002 he had nothing but trouble followed by more trouble this year. The jury is out on him. I think he should be a set up guy for a year or two. He still could be very good, but the market for him has to have gone down.
  15. Foulke, yes. Biddle, no.
  16. I saw two separate interviews of Blalock, and he said he was just trying for a hit. Baloney. That was a home run swing if I ever saw one.
  17. I agree with SoxFan1. Anderson isn't underrated. He's just a great ball player. Hawk has been tooting his horn for years. Others, too. I'm sure they love him in California.
  18. Why would we leave a kid like him in to take such a pounding? 9 hits, 2 walks, 10 runs, 1.2 innings.
  19. Can we fire JM that quickly? I think we still have to go through a lengthy, diverse interview process first.
  20. Jason, I don't disagree with anything you said in the above post, but I gotta say that it blows my mind when we discuss trading Everett before the Rangers have even made their Christmas selection yet. Does this mean that you think we overpaid for him? That we were taken to the proverbial cleaners? I thought I was the only one here who felt that way. I've heard of "flipping" a piece of real estate before closing, so I guess we could do it with Ev also.
  21. Great trade for Toronto.. Stewart is expensive and will be a free agent. They get an underpriced Kielty, who is comparable in ability and improving. Kielty is better defensively, too.
  22. Rex, why don't the Sox fix the knees?
  23. Only KW would give up that much. I still cringe at the thought of losing Webster, Rupe, and Pacheco, or whoever it turns out to be for Everett.
