QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) Still stand by my statement that Jared Mitchell will be our first pick. I also see the Sox taking Storen, the reliever out of Stanford, with a 2nd round pick. After actually watching this kid play a couple times now, I'd be extremely disappointed with that pick. I don't want him at all actually. His batting stance is almost IDENTICAL to that of Jerry Owens'. He's a supposed leadoff type hitter but bats 7th for LSU.

6/6 Thread - Sox vs. Indians - 3:05pm CDT on Fox

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 12:05 AM) Heck yeah. It's a special day. Happy Birthday. -
Serbia vs Austria tomorrow in Belgrade. A win for Serbia would be HUGE and solidify them 5 points clear of France in Group 7.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) Puh-lease. Not counting todays game, he's averaging 107 pitches a game. If you're saying that he's been overworked, your crazy. Maybe his arm has gotten tired, it happens, but he hasn't been over worked. Also, he's still only 26, so his arm can handle a heavy workload (which really isn't heavy). He's been dominating in 90% of his games, there's no reason why he shouldn't have had a lot IP piled up already. For reference, Justin Verlander (who's the same age) has pitched in the same number of game, but in about 10 less innings. Yet, he's averaging 108 pitches per game. Is he being overworked to? Maybe the first time ever, but I agree with BearSox 10000%.

Anyone know how to watch this online? Or anyone care to share an MLBTV login for someone sitting in the s***ty state of Michigan? -
DaMarcus Beasley was moved to defender? Yikes.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 01:41 AM) I'm only going to do a few... - CQ will have a better 2009 than 2008. - Owens will stay as our CF and lead-off man all season. - Fields will be a top 10 3B in the MLB by the end of the season. I was indeed bold.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 12:49 AM) Replace Wise with just about anyone and I'm finally content with the roster (as long Gobble remains mostly unused). Jerry Owens? Jose Paniagua? Mike Myers? Jeff Abbott? Jeff Liefer?

Harper's bat speed is just insane. I'm not a fan of the leg-work he does in the swing, but God damn this kid can hit.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) Yeah, football. I posted my HS highlight tape on talkbears.com. In that highlight tape, you'll see a lot of Seiler. If I do wind up at GVSU, I'll make sure to find you and share my extreme baseball knowledge, that you love so much, with you. Haha, I'm giddy at the thought of it. But in all honestly, it'd be cool to have a fellow SoxTalker and Chicagoan around these parts.

QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) If thats the case do you move lexi back to 2b and put slayer at ss or vice versa. Alexies arm at second is a big boost for turnin that dp Alexei's arm is much better utilized at SS than it is at 2B however. Beckham 2B + Ramirez SS > Ramirez 2B + Beckham SS IMO.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) If I don't get the D-I scholarship I'm hoping for (going to JuCo next year), you could very well see me going to GVSU in a year or two. Football? You're a lineman right? I seem to remember you posting a video or something in the past. This is as good of a D2 program as you'll find.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:35 PM) Too much s***ty Division II football talk in this thread. Says the f***ing Iowan.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) Yeah, he'll likely redshirt and the earliest he'll make an impact in the run game is his sophomore season, but he could contribute in the return game and on special teams. He's a football player, tough as nails (although I have some funny stories about him during games). If the other RB you're talking about is a power runner, that'll be perfect for you guys, cause Seiler's knickname is "Slick" for a reason. Our #1 RB is a versatile runner. I'd compare him to a Thomas Jones. Not a tank, but not a speedster either. I'm sure Seiler will be utilized in the offense somehow if he's as slick as you say. We run lot's of stretch plays with lineman pulling, so it may suit him.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) So how big of a disappointment was Betemit? Turns out I was dead wrong about one thing; he really can't field at all. He also couldn't hit at all either.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:25 PM) For the hell of it, here's my projected Sox lineup for next year: 8- Pierre 5- Beckham 7- Quentin DH- Thome 3- Konerko 9- Abreu 6- Ramirez 2- AJP 4- Getz 10 million in 2010 and 8.5 in 2011 for Pierre? I don't see that happening.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) Hey SoxFan1, you go to GVSU? If you're gonna be there for the next couple of years, watch out for a RB/WR/KR/PR on the football team, Billy Seiler. Not the biggest guy, but he's fast as hell, extremely strong for his size, and no one works harder than him. He'll make an impact for the Lakers. Ya, I go to GVSU. I've heard about Seiler. He'll have a very hard time getting playing time here though. Our returning RB is a stud going into his junior season and we also got a legit freshman coming in who will likely be backing him up. I'll definitely keep an eye out for Seiler though. They have him listed as a RB. He'll probably red-shirt this year.

QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:11 PM) How about we save the April 2010 lineups, for next year guys? It's fun to look ahead. There are actually young guys to look forward to now with Danks and Beckham and Getz and Allen and Flowers and on and on.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) Don't get too far ahead. It's either Dye or Thome.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) I would love the Sox to sign Holliday. If Olney is correct and he's "only" going to get 3 years at $10-12 million, the Sox money is just as good as anyone else's. Its just with Boras there would be so many other things like out-clauses that could make it a moot point. He'd be a HUGE acquisition to our lineup. Danks CF Beckham 3B Quentin RF Holliday LF Dye DH Konerko 1B Ramirez SS Pierzynski C Getz 2B Drool...
-
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) I doubt Jordan Danks is a better CF than BA. That's temporary, pending our FA signing of either Holliday or Bay.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) I heard. I'm so excited!! Finally a very high (top 10), can't miss spect WE developed has arrived. "we developed" is a very loose term here. He was pretty much a finished product coming out of college and raked since he's joined our organization. He's played, what, 65 games in our system?
