2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
SoxFan1 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Perfectly said: Kings got older, worse, more expensive AND downgraded their draft pick in one trade. Impressive. People saying they expect to pick Jimmer at 10 now. That would be hilarious. -

Interesting to see who Charlotte will be picking at 7 and 9. You figure Augustin is a shoe-in to start at PG. The rest of your lineup, right now, is Henderson, Magette, Thomas and Przybilla. Maybe Kemba and Kawhi Leonard? Maybe Kemba and Biyombo? Valenciunas? -
9 years, $51 million for Brzygalov in Philly. Who saw that one coming?

So the Bucks now have Udrih, Livingston, Jennings, Boykins, and Dooling. Makes the TWolves and mid-2000's Knicks looks like they lack PG's. -

I'm not really getting this trade from SAC's perspective. They give up Udrih, get Salmons. They give up 7, get 10. WTF. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) Isn't Denver trying to lock him up? And I want to shoot higher than Afflalo. Rose/Ellis would be the most explosive/dynamic backcourt in the league. Go back a number of pages and read Zoom's post about why Ellis isn't a great fit. He said it better than anyone else could. The NBA isn't all about scoring. Would I like it if we could get Ellis? Yes. Would it be optimal? No. But it also depends on the price. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) They would also give up 60 points a game. Exactly. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) People keep looking for the perfect 2-guard. Let's face it: after Wade and Kobe, the position is not that strong. You've got scorers who can't defend and vice versa. I'd rather have a scorer and hope that under TT and his system that they can become average defenders (think Ray Allen, Paul Pierce or even Luol Deng) than another year of Keith Bogans and his 6 PPG or another offensively-challenged SG. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) Very true, and there is only like one true 2 guard coming out in the draft. Not an easy position to fill. No one is saying we need a superstar SG to improve the team. There are a lot of guys who would be perfect fits with the Bulls. Arron Afflalo, for example, is a PERFECT fit. -
Flyers trade Jeff Carter to CBJ, Mike Richards to LA, and likely Versteeg to FLA. How big of a contract do they think they need to give Brzygalov?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 02:54 PM) There is no perfect fit at the SG outside of Kobe Bryant. What? -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Has Ohman been bad at all versus lefties? I feel like he's gotten hit when he has because Ozzie has used him against righties. 2.79 ERA vs lefties, 7.20 vs righties. But to be fair, he couldn't get ANYONE out his first few outings of the season.

Not sure about the Noah/Ellis thing. I like Ellis, but he isn't a perfect fit on the Bulls whatsoever, and losing Noah would hurt a lot. -

QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) I'd really like to see the Bulls trade up to the 17-20 pick and nab Kenneth Faried, looks like a Ben Wallace-type of player that could become a beast under Thibs' coaching. If we keep the picks I'd go with Chandler Parsons, not flashy but a solid basketball player that I think could contribute off the bench right away, and a Euro prospect that can season overseas for a couple more years. Mirotic and Bertrans are my top picks but wouldn't be disappointed with Bogdanovich either. Ewwww, Faried. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) My biggest fear is that we have really narrowed up who we use in the pen, and that we kill Crain and Sergios arms. The good thing is that Sale and Ohman are pitching better as well. Hell, even Bruney has come in and not sucked.

Since everyone loves to talk about how horribly managed the team is, and how they're all overpaid underachieves, I figured a positive thread would be nice. The bullpen has been a lot better recently. For instance, last night combined, the pen threw 3 2/3 with 3 H, 0 BB, and 6 K. Obviously no runs allowed. The previous evening, 3 2/3 again, 5K, 0 BB, 2H, 0 R. The night before that, 4 IP, 2H, 4K, 0 R, 0 BB. Last game in ARI, 1.1, 0H, 0R, 2 K. 2nd game in ARI, 2 IP, 1H, 1L, 0 BB, 0 R. 1st game in ARI, 1.1 IP, 1H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 R. In fact, the last time the bullpen gave up a run was when Santos gave up a run in his 5-4 SV vs Oakland in the series finale. Crain, Thornton, Santos have been money in the late innings. Crain is getting his slider over for strikes, Thornton has his 97 mph fastball back and painting the corners, and Santos is realizing he has incredible stuff and his pitch sequences have been devastating.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) So just for the "fun" of it. I tested the ideas out a bit. I went back through the game threads and figured out how many posts per game in wins and losses, and who had the most posts in each type of thread. Instead of trying to average it out, I counted who was in the top 5 posters for each type of game thread, and how often they appeared in winning and losing thread post leaders. Game threads where we won have averaged 301.8 posts this year, versus 364.2 in losses, or about 20% bigger in losing games. The fun part is who posts in threads. Breaking the people who appear in the highest rate of game threads, the first number is number of times a top 5 post total in a game thread where we won, followed by top 5 appearances in a game thread where we lost. For the purposes of not typing out all of the names, I only included people who had at least 5 in one or the other category. Fathom 17-32 Balta 18-21 TheGingerKid 14-13 Soxfest 10-14 JoeCoolMan 12-8 Jordan4Life 7-9 Caufield 4-12 Greg775 6-9 Heads 8-1 BigEdWalsh 3-5 For the record 53 different people had at least one time they were in the top 5 in a game thread for wins, and only 40 for the losing games. 13 times when a game thread has been under 200 posts, it was a win, only 7 times for a loss. The two highest totals in game winner threads were both in the opening week of the season, including opening day for the second biggest winners thread. The biggest game thread of the year at 847 was the 7-4 loss with Oakland where Matt gave up 3 in the 9th and then three more scored in the 10th, including the really bad Pierre defense. It seems more people post a lot less when we win, and fewer people post a lot more when we lose. This is awesome.

Better question: What are PK's numbers since he was put on the SoxTalk banner?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) Actually it's incredible. Totally with you Milkman. CIA and FBI having a good month. I can't believe he hid for this long though! I hope theres a movie on it The Departed was based off of him. But he also dies in the end of the Departed.

Hawks have a brutal 9 game road trip to start the 2nd half of the season.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) Maybe to you Georgia screams basketball, but it doesn't to me. I never said it screams basketball, but it's certainly not a small school. I think everyone could agree on that. -
Muahahahahaha. I'm so glad I have a secret spot close by where Gumballhead is ALWAYS available.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:39 PM) I have no idea why this took off like it was Zambrano vs Lee or Barrett from years back. Seriously? This is SoxTalk. And it's a topic regarding Peavy and Pierzynski lol.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) I'm not a Bulls fan. I'm not an NBA fan either, but my family's obsessed, so I watch my fair share of games. The Bulls should go: Norris Cole, Charles Jenkins, and Travis Leslie. All small school scorers. Georgia is a small school? QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:57 PM) JaJuan Johnson's not going to drop to 43. Smith and Mack have a better chance of dropping that low. There's a chance, but not a real good one. That's why I have Keith Benson ahead of him, as I got to see him play a lot, and at one point, people were lauding him as a lottery pick. Really underrated center. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 11:58 PM) I know the Bulls need a SG, but that's overloading on guards. You gotta take at least one SF/PF like Johnson or Harper. I agree. I'd REALLY love Harper and Mack/Smith in the 1st round. Harper gives you a SF who has all the tools and can actually give Lu Deng some rest. I like his versatility and potential on the Bulls 2nd unit. Ditto with Mack or Smith. Guys who can score but also handle the ball as well. -

If we're keeping all 3 picks, my preference would be: Justin Harper 28 Shelvin Mack/Nolan Smith/Josh Selby 30 Keith Benson/JaJuan Johnson 43
