Apparently no one in this thread has ever gotten into an argument with a close friend.

First of all, everyone is ASSUMING that Peavy was upset at AJ supposedly showing him up. No one knows that for sure. Second, AJ pulled Peavy into the clubhouse hallway to discuss things out of the view of the camera. That's a great move.

Denver is an absolutely gorgeous city and Coors Field is a beautiful park. Was there for a week last month for lacrosse and I absolutely fell in love with that city. Caught a Rocks/Giants game and got to see CarGo vs Lincecum.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread
SoxFan1 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm watching the 2001 NBA Draft on NBATV and it's simply depressing. Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. Yuck. I remember I wanted Loren Woods in the 2nd round SO bad and we took Sean Lampley. Not than Woods was any good either. -
F*** it, I've Got This. White Sox vs Cubs 7:10 first pitch

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 12:26 AM) Um. Hell ya Sergio Aramis and Soto missed a couple of those pitches by at least 16 inches. -
I was actually there today watching him take BP, and that leg kick did look bigger than normal. I'm not sure what Haugh was watching, but he seemed to be popping a lot of balls up and dipping his back shoulder, really getting under them. And Walker really was there. Pitch after pitch, he would advise him in different ways. I've been a lot less hard on Walker since last summer since I've actually gotten to see a bunch of things behind the scenes. He works his ass off with those guys. We just have a team of headcases unfortunately. During the game though, Beckham looked super loose, messing with the guys all night. I don't think he's overanalyzing anything.

2011-2012 OFFICIAL NBA LOCKOUT thread

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) KG and Moses Malone are both top-30 type players that skipped college too, plus arguably Dirk. Kemp and T-Mac were also pretty good, although they could have been better. Maybe if he stayed 2 or 3 years you could make that case, plus he might have been a little more likely to develop a solid jumper given his teams would be zoned to death (he usually just hits enough to keep people honest, but was very good from mid-range this year). I don't think it's terribly likely that he'd have the post game everyone gripes about though. There are way too many zones and double-teams in college and too many great athletes that reach the NBA with no moves. The really good post players I can think of (guys like Sullinger and Love) had very good moves before they even hit campus. Plus if he's one and done, I doubt it really helps any, especially if he doesn't go somewhere that has a coach that would help him develop. Lebron also has/had the physical tools that no one else has ever had. He's probably have been a power-point-forward in college surrounded by 6'0 combo guards and unathletic white guys. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 02:21 AM) I can ask my dad what watt pool light we have in ours. Our pool is probably 52 inches deep, maybe 12 feet wide, and 26 feet long? I'm just guessing, but's it's a rather large oval. Our light is in one corner of the pool, and it does a great job lighting the whole thing. It is somewhat dark in the very opposite end, and obviously when someone sits in front of the light, but it's definitely sufficient. I'll try to remember to ask. I'd appreciate that. Thanks.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 06:03 PM) Is it possible to grill badly? Over the last few weeks, I've been doing a lot of it. There has been chicken, steak, cheeseburgers, brats, polish sausage, etc. We have a bunch of seasonings and spices so I kind of just sift through them right before I grill and choose a random assortment that I think will go well with whichever food I'm making. And every single time, the food has been just delicious. I feel like I can just close my eyes and grab a handful of seasonings and it will still be good. One thing that I've done each time is use lemon juice (one of those little plastic lemon-shaped bottles). I'll give each item a few squeezes of lemon juice. It doesn't add too much in the way of flavor, but it seems to keep everything very juicy. Absolutely. Luckily, it's in a man's genetics to be a grillmaster. Meat over fire. It's just right.

Man, it is really hard to get Gumballhead. Luckily, I know a close spot where it is ALWAYS stocked well.

I have a question. Couldn't find an answer anywhere online. We have an 18 foot, round, above-ground pool, 52 inches deep and we're thinking about buying an underwater pool to light it up at night. Does anyone know how much light will be enough for the whole thing? They have 35, 50 and 100 watt lights and I have no clue which one to get.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) Just saw this on the Twitter: McKenzie is generally very good. That would mean the cap will be up close to 5 million dollars (it was 59.4 last year, for those who perhaps didn't know) which is a bit more than I had been hearing in terms of prognostications. Perhaps the Hawks can keep a Brouwer now, or move him and try to get a pretty big named newcomer. We shall see. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 19, 2011 -> 11:33 PM) The cap word officially came from the NHL and NHLPA about this time last year, so we'll get official word very soon by the way. The cap situation isn't 1/1000th as bad as last year, but the Hawks aren't in particularly great shape either, so every dollar counts. I see you beat me to it. This is good news for the Hawks no matter how you slice it. And you said it best, every dollar counts.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) Ugh, hard to watch sucker punch. Ya, it was a sucker-punch, but the guy that got knocked out was also one of the guys who was destroying s***. The guy in the all-black was trying to stop a bunch of people from demolishing an overturned car. There's another video of the same guy doing it and saying "This is out city." Still, he's at fault too, for throwing the first punch, but who knows, hard to judge off of a short video. A lot of people are defending the guy in the all-black.

Cleaning out my room at home in preparation to move back from college and found my original Playstation with Twisted Metal 4 inside. I got SO pumped. Also found my Dreamcast. Just read that there's a new Twisted Metal coming out for PS3. f***ETH YES!

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) Fernet Branca is actually a great bitter herbal liqueur to mix with, but I would not jump right up to drink too much of it straight. As for comparisons between Fernet and Malort, just look at the Malort Face Flickr Pool and see what you are potentially in for. . . On the plus side, it is totally a Chicago drinking thing. Apparently Fernet and Coke is a popular drink among the homosexual population of San Francisco?

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) Wow, what an adventure in spirits!! The lack of a suitable (and well-stocked) mentor like your friend’s dad is the main reason I have yet to really embark on a serious absinthe experience. Anisette is not my favorite flavor so I am hesitant to shell out $7o to $100+ for bottles I have never had a chance to try first. But I have only heard good things about Nouvelle-Orléans, so when I finally come across a bottle of that I will pick it up if I can afford it. As for the Last Word Cocktail . . . it’s an absolute winner and one of the darlings of the classic cocktail revival. It makes me wish Chartreuse was not $50+ a bottle or this drink and others would be in more steady rotation at the home bar. Now that you have done Fernet shots there is only one logical step after that . . . Malört! If Malort is more bitter than Fernet, then I don't know what to do with myself. My buddy was comparing Fernet to the 1st ever batch of Robitussin that was then allowed to age for 100 years.

Went up to northern Michigan this weekend to hang out with my friend before he moves to Georgia. His father is quite the connoisseur. He's actually a member in some sort of crazy absinthe club and I was lucky enough to let him open the liquor cabinet for me and he did not disappoint. Some of the things I tried included 4 different homemade ($200/bottle) batches of absinthe. I also got the full loushing experience and I'm pretty damn good at it. Learned a lot about TA Breaux, the history of absinthe and tried Nouvelle-Orléans Absinthe Supérieure, among other things, which was spectacular. Tried Chartreuse for the 1st time, and that might have been the most exotic tasting liquor ever. Something like 55% alc by vol and made of 130 different herbs. That will clear your sinuses up real quick. Had another handmade liqueur called ROOT, which combined with coke, tasted just like root beer. Absolutely delicious. Also was forced to take a shot of Fernet Branca, which was insane BUT tasted spectacular when chased with a Labatt Blue. If anyone has the ingredients, I'd suggest a cocktail called The Last Word. 3/4 ounce gin 3/4 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice 3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur 3/4 ounce green Chartreuse

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) Dirk > Bird And I think Bill Russell is a little overrated. I agree the rest are above Dirk (Kobe and Oscar barely). No on all the above.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) I've seen enough. Dirk is the best player in the league and now a top 10 great. Coldest white boy I've ever seen. Larry Bird would be Kyle Korver in today's league. Wow, I just realized how silly this is. 10 better than Dirk off the top of my head: Michael Jordan Wilt Chamberlain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Magic Johnson Oscar Robertson Larry Bird Bill Russell Kobe Bryant Shaquille O'Neal Hakeem Olajuwon

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) LeBron is twice the player Pippen was. Get over your hate for LeBron (even I admit he's overrated now. But still great), and your love for Pippen (you're obviously a Bulls fan) and realize no Pippen-led team would've won a damn thing. I still can't get over a 21-year old Kobe serving Scottie's ass in 2000. No LeBron led team has won a damn thing either. And Pippen had the Bulls close 2 years in a row with BJ Armstrong and Toni Kukoc as his 2nd leading scorers. And WTF, Kobe "serving" a 34 year old Pippen. Impressive.
