The great Mel Thread, that's where it was! How hould I have buried that thread from memory?

I think Brando took the recent loss of his grandmother very hard, and has decided to take a break for a while. He was in the middle of one debate or another (I don't remember what), and he got the news. She was still over in Russia and up in her 90s. A vvery strong woman her whole life, from what Brando shared, she prettu much raised him. She'd been in declining health for a few years but a loss like that is still something that leaves a whole. Sending good thoughts his way wherever he is.

That would be my Melbourne. After 15 years, I guess it's home. Marlins at Expos on SATURDAY, Stff, so you'll miss that. No Melbourne action on Sunday, Expos are down at Indians (Chain of Lakes). I'm frustrated, making that Marlins game is going to be a stretch for me on Saturday because the OTHER Marlins team in town (my little girl's T-Ball Marlins!) has a noon start. I'm slated to be hotdog dad in the snack stand that day too (tres prstigeous, no?), so no ducking out early. If you're looking for the Melbourne "hot spots" (a difficult search to be sure), give a shout and I'll give you the rundown.

The Wide World of Sports complex in Kissimmee on Disney property, where the Braves play, is a nice new complex, but with a big outfield berm that I like because my kids can run around a litle and not get too antsy during games. The Kissimmee stadium where the Astros play is pretty much an armpit (They have fixed it up a bit), I much prefer the place they used to play in Cocoa - also old but with more character. Space coast stadium near me (formerly Marlins, now Expos) is nice, but the berm is pretty much always closed so I miss like half of the game buying treats and playing catch outside the park with the kids (4 and 6 year olds don't have much of an attention span). I took them to Expos/Cardinals last week and we saw Pujols hit a bomb - the left field pole is a good 25 feet high and the ball cleared it by a good 10 feet. My favorite in driving distance is Dodgertown in Vero - they've been playing there for more than 60 years and it's a cozy little old park, always packed, annd the locals are bid supporters. Have fun!

It's very important to know your medium and STICK WITH IT. I mean, I've heard Leanord Nimoy sing before and it's not pretty... (As an actor, of course, he vulcan rocks.)

It's been nice - dry and cool at night. Been great weather for taking in Grapefruit League action the last two weeks, much to my boss's consternation. Where are you heading into?

Krishna UNconciousness get the best of ya?

Signing on for the next "Die Hard" sequel, huh? Safe travels.

I've been captivated by that passage since hearing it in that song. There is a simple beauty to some of this eastern mystical stuff, isn't there?

A very good class of inductees, with Dark Horse himself and Traffic topping the bill.

I have heard it before as earthly, energetic, and eager. I always figured earthly was kinda cheating, since if you could remember that then you could remember EARTH too. I just had a mnemonic conversation on the mlb Sox board, and submitted my all-time favorites. 'Pelican Egg Omelettes Make People Puke' is for remembering the Epochs of the pre-Holocene Tertiary/Quaternary in Geological Time - Paleocene, Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, Pleocene, Pleistocene. Yes, of little relevance to all but a select few of us. Then, for remembering the 12 cranial nerves (olfactory, optic, occular-motor, trochlear, trigeminal, abducens, facial, accessory, glossopharyngeal, vagus, somatic, hypoglossal), we were taught both the official (clean) and unnofficial (dirty) mnemonic at my fien Jesuit high school. Clean: 'On Old Olumpus' Towering Tops, A Fin and German Viewed Some Hops' (Of course it didn't make sense, because Greece/Mount Olympus is in winr country, well away from Europe's hop growing regions - I figured I'd be preemptive before someone else pointed that out) Dirty: 'Oh, Oh, Oh, To Touch And Feel A Girl's V-----, So Fine.' Of course that's the one all the guys remembered.

Very cool, whether Sedna is a planet, a planetoid, or an inner Oort object. I'm guessing the discoverers are hoping at least some people classify it as a planet, hence the "S" name they gave it. We can all still remember the TEN planets with only slight tweaking of the old nmemonic: "My Very Erstwhile Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizza SLICES."

I'd say maybe he can take a cue from Foulke and become that rare closer who's out pitch is a change-up, but then again you'd need to have a fastball to change up from wouldn't you? Here's hoping Billy gets it done, but he's got his work cut out for himself.

Well whadaya know? I had always heard it could be seen from space but never quite bought it.

e-Filed 2 weeks ago, easily the earliest I have ever filed. My kids' school needed the completed tax information so I was forced to do it, otherwise I'd be pulling my hair out on April 14th again this year I'm sure (but hopefully not as a result of another bad start to the baseball season for the Good Guys).

Thumbs up on the finale tonight. Thumbs down on having to wait 9 months for a possible next season.

So what do you do with all your SPARE time, Heather? Glad to hear you're still kicking and that you haven't throttled any students yet. Keep up the good work.

Well, having grown up in Beverly, I can assure you that all the drunks are from Evergreen Park! I mean, all the bars are on their side of Western, not ours, right?

How about 'One-glove-wearing-nose-falling-off-Elephant-Man-bones-buying-oxygen-tent-sleeping-whiter-by-the-day-baby-dangling-surgical-mask-wearing-crotch-grabbing freak of nature'? Maybe a tad wordy, I guess.

Georgie's screwing over of the firemen while still riding on their coat-tails is par for the course from the Commander in Chief that pushes to cut benefits and combat pay for soldiers while playing President Hero while they sacrifice, fight, and die. And if I was him I wouldn't have signed Sarbanes-Oxley either. Why provide protection from firing and intimidation for any of the whistle-blowers that can spill the beans on some of the fun and games going on within this Administration?

Too true. Chicagoans know there's only one REAL MJ - former Sox catcher Mark Johnson, right? His Creepiness can just be referred to as Whacko Jacko.

I tend to agree, but I also laughed at the sketch with the mentally challenged guy telling Ben that Gigli is going to bomb and Ben keeps blowing him off and saying how good it's going to beopening bit with the Boston gay wedding. And in the opening bit I particularly liked the exchange that went like... Girl: "Everyone should have the kind of love that Mikey and Brad have." Boyfriend: "I've been trying to get US to have the kind of love Mikey and Brad have and you never let me - NOT EVEN ONCE!"

Ouch. Squirm. I can't get the Seinfeld episode with Kramer passing the kidney stone out of my head now, making the circus tightrope walkers fall with the scream he lets out when the pass.

Thanks! I have entered a new level of lazy when I decided it was too much work to go to the Chisox site and look it up in up the schedule myself, huh? Pass me the remote and another bon bon...
