Lance "James at 15/16" Kerwin notwithstanding, Salem's Lot was great. Along with the Shining, it was probbably the best Stephen King adaptation.

Has this speculation been in print anywhere (link?), or is this from somebody's mechanic again?

You hit two of my three picks... 1) The Exorcist is still easily the most frightening thing ever put on film. My wife still won't watch it. In high school one summer, my friends and I all decided that we would all take turns staying alone in one of the guys family's old, creaky house and watch The Excorcist while everyone alse went out for the night. To a man, we were all white as sheets when we caught up with each other later that evening. 2) Halloween was a great film, ironic in ushering in the slasher gore-fest genre when there was actually so little graphic gore in the film. And Y chromasome or not (urban legend?), Jamie Lee Curtis was a tall drink of water back in the day. 3) Alien. Maybe it's technically Sci-fi, but man that's a great horror film. Actually follows a classic gothic horror formula much as Dracula does -- the lone damsel in distress is pursued by a dark and sinister egent of evil, albiet an alien xenomorph in this case.

"The Wind," Warren Zavon's final album. Mighty fine, and a little haunted at times, especially the cover of Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door."

You are correct, we don't know. I just think all the Sox fans who think we need a piss and vinigar manager in the wake of Manual's tenure are not going to see that (at least outwardly) from Gaston. I'm leaning toward the more experienced Gaston over anyone else in the running, but I have also never had a problem with a manage with a calm demeanor. But, it still surprises me that he is apparently such a clear front runner when we have all along been concerned that 1) his asking price may be too high, and 2) he would only consider the job if the organization was giving him all the pieces needed to win. It sounds to me like he is the "Plan A" manager, even though Plan A seems to be falling apart if we can't keep Colon and/or Gordon. It will be an interesting next few days.

He's actually more laid back than JM was.

Not signing Colon and moving to "Plan B" scares me, because I don't really think there is a Plan B, other than trying and failing to land a handful of players and then having to with huge pieces missing in 2004 and beyond.

This what it would be like if he managed a team....... Be good: "THIS is what I want you to do Son. Bunt when you come up" Player: "Why are you calling me Son, your younger then me?" Be good: "JUST.........BE good." Player: "What the hell are you talking about. And why do you always emphasize the first word of your sentence?" Be good: "FORGET about it.........HEY, did you meet my new assistant Beastlyordonez." Player: "No......." (shakes hands with BeastlY) Beastly: "Let me ask you something son? Do you ever notice that mexican chicks are always the first to mature. I saw some girl walking down the street and was like MOMMA CITTTTTAAAAAA. If she wouldnt of kept walking I would of made her another victim of the beast." Player: (Shakes head as so many have done before) Great post there Flash Tizzle, sounds like Beastly's got his best Eddie Guerrero impersanation goin there. If BeGood's gonna be da manager, can he get Anna K to throw out da 1st pitch every night, like she did in NY? I concur!

I do agree that it is not that hard to tell a joke from a malicious post truly meant to hurt another poster. Deep breath...

No offense taken. I do think it's good that Michael Moore and people like him are out stirring things up even if I don't agree with everything he says. At the end of the day, Moore needs to sell books or movie tix, so sure he needs to be over the top on things sometimes.

Do you think there's any money in that? if there's an angle there, Jason had better be on it!

The Series was great and I completely enjoyed it. Even $186 million doesn't guarantee anything (but it sure would help). While I'm glad it didn't go 7 for the Marlins' sake, I'm always sad when baseball season finally officially ends. The many Sox developments in the weeks to follow will keep me occupied, but the long cold, baseball-less winter is always a little depressing. At the same time, I've got a LOT of catching up to do at work now that the diversion of baseball is over for a few months.

This thread is going to be the equivalent of "Dark Side of the Moon," it will continue to be in the charts long after other flash-in-the-pan threads have been long forgotten. -
Yeah, we don't want a "Black Saturday Part II"

I get the paper because A) I think reading a paper is much better than reading the internet B) It would just be weird to eat breakfast at my computer everymorning before school. That is a valid point but i just cant validate payin for something that i can get whenever i want....call me cheap or whatever... Isn't that supposedly why guys get married?

All About Beer, BYO (Brew Your Own), and Zymurgy (another brewing book). When you can't find the perfect pint, you just have to brew it yourself.

Like I said, it wouldn't be a deal breaker. A nice hike in the forest always refreshes body and spirit.

I'll only say I never had such a backlog of opportunity as to be too picky. It would not have been a bad problem to have though

ChoicePoint, thanks. I could not recall the company's name. I have not read that, but IIRC that is where a lot of Moore's numbers came from. Odd that it toook a Brit (I guess an Yankee/Brit) to ferret some of this stuff out, huh? My "to read" list grows a little bit each month -- much faster than I can keep up with. This one's on the list now, too.

I don't think this argument can be won by either side. True. Next round's on me. There's always more time for sociopolitical discourse in the off season, isn't there? How many days until Winter Meetings?

Actually, it was, let's bend the law by purging the voter rolls of not only convicted felons, but also an additional +30% of false hits. The computer company hired to purge the data bases came back to the state and said, this is way too many false hits and we can't ethically do this, Jeb said do it anyway and so it was done. Just one small example of the systematic whittling down of the FL voters who weren't planning on voting for Big Brother Dubya.

Had I not lived in Florida in 2000 I would gave gone Green and voted for Nader. We knew it was going to be close in FL and couldn't afford the luxery of voting our conciounsce (sp?), so President-in-Exile Gore got my vote. There are actually two really good recap of all the Bush Brothers misdeeds re the Floirida vote in 2000 included as the Preface and Afterward of Michale Moore's "Stupid White People." Moore recounts a trip to the a Florida state universoty as part of the he took on behalf of the Nader campaign. He put two and two together before most people did, and actually got up and said 'I live in Michigan where Gore's a lock so I can vote for Nader without the possibility of inadvertently helping Bush. Here in Florida you don't because it's too close, so maybe you DON'T WANT TO VOTE FOR MY GUY. Nader was ticked but understood the rationale. Gov. Jeb Bush is the one who was most upset, because he/the state had actually invited Moore down to the speaking engagement just before the election SPECIFICALLY to chip away at Gore's votes. He caught up with Moore just as as getting ready to fly out and his sour attitude clued Moore into what had just happened. Alas, all for naught. between purging the voter rolls of suspected felons plus a margin of error of 30%, geting Catherine Harris in play to block any and all equitable resolutions at the state level, and having the US Supreme Court wipe their collective arses with the Constitution by pulling the plug on the whole thing when it got too close to overturning the results, the fraudulent Prez was in. I guess it is good to be the King.
