  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 11:43 AM) Life is so s***ty sometimes. A friend of mine found out seriously last week that he had cancer in his brain, and this morning he's already dead. Wow. Condolances to his family and friends.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) Last night I had my favorite, called a Superdog: It's a hot dog covered with two homemade sauces - garlic cilantro and a pineapple sauce - then chips, bacon and a slice of cheese on top. What do you guys eat in Illinois when you roll home from the bars? That Superdog sounds like an awesome drunk food. Mexican is my first choice.
  3. Robert Sherman, one half of the Sherman Brothers songwriting team who wrote the songs for Mary Poppins, Winnie the Pooh, Chitty Chitty Ban Bang and other film and animation classics died last week at age 86.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 01:29 AM) All you creamy peanut butter eaters are a bunch of jokers. You're missing out on all the good stuff. The crunchy stuff scratches the roof of my widdle mouth. I am very dainty that way.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 10:58 PM) Had lunch at Frontera Grill today...the mole sauce alone made it the best mexican meal I have ever had. Dinner was at The Publican...meal was very good...interesting place...about halfway through our meal Mario Batali strolled in with some friends for cocktails. That was pretty neat. If they ever do a live action Simpson's movie, Mario Batali had better land the role of Comic Book Guy or I will be very disappointed.

I am a kid at heart when it comes to my pbj. Creamy peanut butter, grape jelly, untoasted white bread. Just about the only thing I like with white bread other than campfire pie iron pies.
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 03:16 PM) Preface: I am a huge Disney fan I think John Carter is Disney's latest attempt to create a new movie franchise. In recent years, they've really struggled to have a franchise that isnt Pixar or Pirates. In non-pixar animation, with the exception of Tangled and The Princess and the Frog, they've had a lot of nothing. They've had some high grossing movies, but nothing they can hang a hat on. In live action, Tron didnt do as well as I think they had hoped. (I know there was an attraction in the works for Disney World if the movie was a hit) That could have been something. The Muppets has some potential, but I think it's limited. They own Marvel, but dont have the rights to use it int a theme park east of the mississippi. Beyond that, there's not a lot that strikes me as "THATS their next big franchise" It's going back 7 and 12 years, respectively, but Disney had other two solid non-Pixar animated offerings in Chicken Little and Emperor's New Groove. I completely agree about Disney's desperation to birth a new blockbuster franchise (I am also a huge fan but a huge critic as well when deserved). They failed trying to put the Narnia films up against the Potter Franchise and John Carter looks horrible. Buying established franchises like the Muppets and Marvel has been a way to find bottom line success but there is no originality on the part of Disney there.
  8. QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) Those Cigar Cities look damn good. The Coastal Honey Tripel was brewed exclusively for this event in a pilot brewing system that used to be operated out of this beer bar several years back. The new owners sold the system to Cigar City and now they use it to do their test batches and exclusive releases. I am usually not a huge fan of honey beers but I will make a point of trying this one.
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) So I can trust that the crazies on the beer websites are nuts to think an IPA has to be drunk within a month? Yes. Or just have them send all of that "bad" beer to me! I might accept that some of the brightest and most volatile hop aromas would start to be lost in as little as a month, but I would hardly call that beer bad.
  10. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 11:14 AM) They are projecting that 50% of this country is going to be obese in 20 years. 50% by weight??
  11. Third Annual Belgian Beer Fest coming up this weekend at one of my favorite local beer bars. Scroll down this page to see a list of the 52 different beers being tapped during the weekend. A much larger number of sours this year compared to last year so I am very excited.
  12. QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) Drinking a Sixpoint Resin out of Brooklyn. Like a richer, maltier Heady Topper (outlined in a previous post). Really good stuff. Interesting thing I learned while at the bottle shop yesterday. I was debating picking up an Arrogant Bastard but the best by date was about to be in up in a coup weeks. I was kinda surprised a beer with that notoriety wouldn't move a bit faster. I opted for a Lagunitas Hop Stoopid instead. When I got home I looked up the expiration system for Stone and found that their dates are only 3 months from bottling. That's pretty impressive, and I have to give them credit. Also, note, I am drinking a lot of IPAs lately. Edit: Jim, what are your thoughts on IPA freshness? When would the quality start to fall off do you think? I would say six months for a normal beer at a standard alcohol and hopping rate, so easily double that for IPA's with high hopping and a bit more alcohol. At 6 months you may start to perceive a bit of hoop attenuation where the hop bitterness is laying down a bit and the malt is coming out more, but that is still going to be a very drinkable beer.
  13. Throughout high school and home on breaks during college a bunch of friends spent nearly every Friday and Saturday night hanging out in a buddy's basement into the wee hours. There was no bathroom in the basement and my buddy's mom went to bed early so you weren't allowed up out of the basement to use a bathroom. The utility sink was the bathroom for many years and none of us ever thought twice about it. We used to call pissing in the sink "drilling the hole".

  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) That bug story was fascinating. I wonder if the Zoo that has the breeders has looked at the genetics of them. You have to imagine a species with such a small population is doing something strange to survive 80 years. Yeah, that is really amazingly cool.
  16. QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) actually, it's more so the sights, I have my food and bars already lined up. Big foodie right here, I'll give you my list of where I will be looking to eat (all types of price points as well). But I would also like any food rec's, Note: I will not be visiting all of these but this is my list as of now One of the Momofuku’s, this guy is a New York legend Ippudo for some Ramen Di Fara (a little far) but this place looks insane, the owner has made every single pizza served there for 40 years by himself. Minneta Tavern – for the so called “best burger” ever made, the Black Label Burger Crif Dogs and the speakeasy located next door Birreria above Eataly – I think I am most excited about this Shake Shack Takashi Papaya King Ess-A-Bagel Big Gay Ice Cream Truck Sushi Azabu Eleven Madison Park Lombardi’s/Grimaldi’s Yes, quite a few were seen on Anthony Bourdain but these places were legit before he was even there The speakeasy connectd to Crif Dogs is Jim Meehan's PDT and I am dying to get there. If you make it there be sure to report back on the experience. Pegu Club, Death and Co., and Employees Only are the other NYC serious cocktail joints I would love to check out.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) So anybody hear about the fire in Wadsworth today? Ya that was my house, cats dead, stuff gone, house gone. Life blows I am so sorry to hear this. It's awful and all my thoughts are with you.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 07:03 AM) Kate Upton overload. Didn't realize she is only 19. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012_swim...pton/?eref=sihp Flaxx Brush With Fame: Kate Upton grew up in the Florida town (Melbourne) I live in AND went to the same school as my kids. She is 5 years older than my oldest kid and she used to be one of the kid car line helpers to let the young kids in and out of the vehicles at the start and end of each day. I also judged her 9th grade science fair project. and she was a very nice kid.
  19. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Feb 7, 2012 -> 05:09 PM) This is pretty offensive. Fake pidgin english? Seriously? www.debbiespenditnow.com Incredibly offensive, actually. Wow.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 09:39 PM) A friend brought me a bottle of 20 year old Tawny port from Sandeman's for the Super Bowl. My 14 year old daughter decide to bring up the topic of a new boyfriend today. I'm having a couple of glasses tonight.
  21. QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 5, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) Popped my growler of Hill Farmstead Everett porter. Pours deep black with nice rich brown head and decent lacing. Surprised it actually survived this long. Nose of chocolate and just a nice hint of smoke. It was smokier in our tasting at the brewery, but the body here is much better. Reason number 1000 why you should never rate based on a 2 oz sample. Flavor is nice and chocolatey with a slight smoke and nutty note. This is really good stuff. For anyone wondering, Hill Farmstead is in the middle of nowhere in Vermont. About 30 mins from Stowe and 2 hours from Burlington. The brewery is basically a garage and they only offer tastings and bottle sales. No full pours. It is considered one of the best breweries in the world. They only sell to 2 places in Burlington, small amounts in NYC, and just started small amounts (like a couple barrels) in Boston. While I fully believe that rarity contributes to the ratings, this is truly superb beer. I'll to post pics from the brewery. It's in the middle of the mountains. Needed FWD just to get up the road to the brewery this time of year. Thanks for the background. I would love to make that trip some day.
