  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) Joltin Joe did the samething on the bailout. Seriously, why isn't this guy getting the same level of scurtiny that Palin has? The guy is out there saying something stupid on a regular basis. When you say stupid things every day for the last 35 years, people stop noticing as much. Palin's comments don't get the 100 point headline on Drudge though. Honestly and seriously though, I think there may be a perception difference between the tickets that might account for that. Biden is the experience guy here, and the line from the Obama campaign has always been that Obama wanted a substantive running mate who can have respectful disagreements with. Palin is seen as the Stepford candidate, and when your campaign is using phrases like "learning at the foot of the master," to describe her - it makes her comments seem a bit more outrageous. And the other reason why I think the media has turned on McCain/Palin? And I think they have by the way, has to do with access. Outside of those carefully planned and detailed few interviews Palin has given, she has not had one single media avail, and has not taken one reporter's question on the campaign trail. McCain hasn't taken a single question from any non-local reporter in over five weeks either. If you don't acknowledge or talk to the press, I'd wager they are less likely to give you the benefit of the doubt.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) Europe is going to get drilled by all of this as well. However, I think the Euro is quickly becoming a bigger safe haven than the dollar.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) The dollar got crushed today, and oil rallied off of that to start. I don't know if that will start a new trend or if today was the one day adjustment to that news. That is where you can make your money if you are right If I had money to risk, the Euro looks good about now.
  4. If this bailout puts more pressure on the dollar, I would definitely think that we could see a new run on oil.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) So McCain employs lobbyist and gets a commerical made about him. Obama himself takes $125,000 directly from these companies, and doesn't see how he might be responsible for part of this mess? That's a bit misleading of an article. I highly doubt that the only reason that the bill never made it to the main floor of the Senate had to do with a threat of filibuster. I'd wager instead that the bill didn't have 50 votes - let alone 60 votes.
  6. So ummm oil, spiked 25 dollars today. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080922/ap_on_bi_ge/oil_prices
  7. Britney Spears - Radar Massive Attack - Protection - From easily their best full album and Tracy Thorn was a great vocal choice for this album's mood. Basement Jaxx - Hush Boy dEUS - When She Comes Down - This band was easily my favorite act around for about five years or so, and they stayed on the fringes of popularity in Europe, and haven't gotten an album released in the US since 2006. The new album - Vantage Point - is giving their voice a mainstream feel. It's a shame the moment for their music has passed though. Project Soul - Ebony Dengue Fever - Woman in the Shoes Duran Duran - Ordinary World Peter Bjorn and John - Let's Call It Off - From Writer's Block, a fantastic pop album. Sergio Mendes - Let Me The Breeders - Night of Joy
  8. Has anyone seen the fake Sarah Palin blog? Kinda hilarious. http://sarahpalin.typepad.com/my_weblog/
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) The fact that he adopted the simply incorrect notion that there is a "Crisis" in Social Security Probably come up with more soon. His policy proposals on Social Security don't act as if there's a crisis, more acts instead as if there are reasonable solutions to a problem far out into the horizon. Has he adopted the notion? Or is he just using the framework of perception to push forward a reasonable proposal?
  10. I remember recently reading some statement from the campaign calling it horrible, but it really hasn't been asked of the Senator, I'd wager.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) ^^^^^ I miss my Kucinich. Richardson, too.
  12. Deepak Chopra? Despite that, kind of a neat ad.
  13. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) I'm a big Bowie fan...no matter what he does. And that CD is fantastic. It's one of those CDs that I sometimes forget about and then when I listen to it, it's like a bought it new again! And of course, we have good taste. And since I'm here: Ludacris - Saturday (Oooh Oooh) Toby Lightman - Front Row Johnny Cash - Sunday Morning Coming Down John Lee Hooker - Boom Boom Electronic - Idiot Country Weekend Players - I'll Be There Massive Attack - Eurochild Massive Attack - Daydreaming Ride - Twisterella The Wonder Stuff - The Size of a Cow Hello 1996 Britpop fan! What was Electronic before it was Electronic? And both Tin Machine albums were amazing. Bowie found Grunge two years before everyone else did. So why not 10 more? Bjork - Declare Independence The B-52's - Private Idaho Parry Gripp - Beer In A Can Bran Van 3000 - Everywhere Miss Platnum - Go - This song is representative of what happens when a heavy set Romanian woman living in Berlin decides that she is the next coming of Missy Elliot. Klezmer meets R&B. The Streets - Fake Street Hats James Brown - Get Up Offa That Thing XTC - The Smartest Monkeys Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings - Let Them Knock -- This album singlehandedly recaptured my love of soul music. The Dap-Kings were also the backing band for Amy Winehouse's Back in Black album. Portishead - Machine Gun - This album was actually worth waiting decades for. Unlike Chinese Democracy will be.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) Obama has stated that he's against Gay Marriage? Isn't that against general Democrat opinion? Obama does not support the legalization of gay marriage. He does support Civil Unions. Its halfway to equality, but its not equality.
  15. I disagree with Obama on FISA. And I disagree with his position on gay marriage.
  16. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) 9/16: Video Crime - Tin Machine Someone else listens to Tin Machine besides me? Wow. The Frank Popp Ensemble - Hip Teens Don't Wear Blue Jeans (On The Twelve Version) The Beatles - I'm A Loser David Bowie - Heroes Billy Bragg - Strange Things Happen Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Well The Breeders - We're Gonna Rise. Is it me or do the Breeders work better when their music feels kind of incomplete? The raw lo-fi feel on a polished record never works this well with anyone else. Cat Power - I Love You, Me Neither Bran Van 3000 - Highway to Heck - Off the Glee album which gave them a lot of buzz and would have made them cross over with their followup had Grand Royal not folded a month before its scheduled release. Supergrass - Sometimes I Make You Sad Moby - You
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) Obama is getting a nice bounce from the bad news on the economy right now IMO. Sounds a bit brutal, but bad news for the economy is good news for Obama. Not as much as you might think. The 5 and 4 point non tracking polls that came out yesterday were all measured before the meltdown on Monday. Gallup and Diageo/Hotline trackers had the lead switch before the Meltdown could be factored in. I think you're seeing the meltdown accelerate a trend that appeared to be in place before hand.
  18. QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) "less fashion, more action" 2,4,6,8, Orthopedic Shoes look great!
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) We all know Bea Arthur will be the President of this group... She'll always bea the Chairperson Emeritus of my heart.
  20. Mandating the Congressional Cafeteria serves Freedom Toast and Freedom Fries.
  21. They say that doing nothing would cost more. And although that may be true, isn't it necessary for the market to correct itself? It's funny how these bailouts are socialist when it comes to protecting money, but not people. We do have a basic safety net for most people, in the FDIC, right? Why do we need to protect more than that?
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) THIS IS NOT A LAUGHING MATTER! LITTLE OLD LADIES DESERVE A LITTLE OGLING!
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) I think GILF is highly offensive and should not be used on this thread. What about all the other grand mothers out there who have been marginalized due to their hot body and unquenchable appetite for young men? The last thing we want is a boycott from the red hat society. *community organizes the group "Grannies for Body Equity"*
