QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 07:13 PM) My co-worker, who is a raging lib, and I were talking today and I'll say what I said to him... it's not that regulations themselves are a problem, it's that there are way too many overlapping regulations in about 5 layers of separate agencies. Stream line that, and you fix a ton of the problems out there. He agreed. So can we agree on that? So, I guess I don't understand. If the regulations overlap, wouldn't complying with one of them involve complying with ALL of them?

Herman Cain on Libya, at an Editorial Board for the Milwaukee newspaper.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) And why don't they bring this up for Mittens? (let's see if you indeed do get it). Umm. It has been brought up. Quite a lot.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) Well I guess it is Newt's turn. But I do think he has a better shot at some staying power than Bachmann, Perry or Cain had/have. Here come the quotes about Newt's support of the DREAM act, a national health insurance mandate and cap and trade by the way.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) 1. When I earlier ranted about the vitriol aimed at the supposed victims of Cain, to be clear, I was NOT saying that their backgrounds are not fair game. They are. What was appalling to me was the ASSUMPTIONS being made, that they were clearly jus going for money. That made me ill. I don't assume Cain's guilt, nor do I assume the victims are perpetrating some massive unfounded conspiracy. If you are one of the people who immediately fell into one of those camps early on, then you are not dealing in logic or reality. I do have to say, that the immediate response from the Cain campaign has been extremely disrespectful towards these women - and his behavior in reaction to the allegations does a lot to back up the claims that have come out IMO. His pattern of behavior means one of two things. 1. He's guilty of the claims expressed and avoiding admitting it. 2. He's such an incompetent of a candidate that he is unable to keep his story straight for more than a few hours, or able to see how his behavior and language after the allegations reflects on the allegations themselves.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) I'm not so sure about that. I don't think Obama has much of a chance. Gallup has him rebounding 8 points this month in matchup with Generic Republican, which is where he's done the worst over the last few months. PPP has a poll out this week showing him comfortably ahead in Ohio this week. I think the momentum has changed in Obama's favor at the moment, and the GOP Presidential field is so weak this time around that Obama has a good shot at winning reelection. With the exception of Romney, there isn't a single person in the GOP field that can win with women or swing places like Ohio, Wisconsin and Minnesota into the Red column. There are a lot of challenges for Obama to win reelection, but he's in a better spot than he's been in all year.

Anytime the Miami Marlins hit a home run, this feature will light up in Miami. It's like a Lisa Frank design on meth.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) that is a key for Newt Gingrich, he needs to avoid the times when he acts like a jackass. When he shows some restraint he is a very good debater. Newt has no shot in a general election. He's a lazy campaigner. And too much of an asshole. He'd be great at rallying his base, but independents would swing Dem in this kind of matchup.

McClatchy/Marist out today. Mittens 23% Newt 19% Herman Cain 17% UNDECIDED 17% Ronpaul 10% Lead Singer of Journey 8%

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) That CBS poll, although it's wierd, suggests a plummet for Mittens as well. It has "Not Romney" at 85%. This is true. Although the trend lines have been choppy for Mittens between 15 and 21 in this poll.
-
I will say that Perry is playing this off extremely well. But Presidential candidates don't get to have senior moments when you are talking about the bread and butter of your policy goals. New CBS poll comes out today and has Cain plummeting to earth, down nine points from a couple weeks ago. Still in front though. The leaders: Cain 18% Undecided 17% Romney 15% Newt 15% SOMEONE ELSE 14%

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Hey Rex? FYI, that was a hoax site. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/11/09/1...-lie?via=recent Several lefty sites have said sorry to their readers. Should have instead said sorry to Cain for the vitriol they spewed regarding that specific joke site. Well, count me as duped. Looked fairly realistic, I have to admit. I spent a few minutes looking if it was a hoax myself and didn't see anything that led me to believe otherwise.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 11:23 AM) I haven't read anything about her not being paid. She said that she wasn't paid to come forward at her press conference. Has she denied getting paid for her appearances? Even still, she's still getting national publicity and job opportunities as a result. I can't recall, but I believe that she said she was accepting no money for morning show appearances either.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) That does NOT mean that my original argument - that this lady seems like someone who is doing this for the opportunity of it, not to further some righteous cause - is wrong. I would argue that Cain is the one doing this campaign for fame and fortune. He's running it more like a book tour than an election campaign to be honest. What financial benefit could there really be for her if she isn't charging for her appearances on morning shows? Not much, I don't think.

So in tonight's campaign, Rick Perry says he wants to eliminate three departments from the federal government. Then he can only name two of them.

Well this should win you friends, Herman Cain. http://hermancainpac.com/2011/11/herman-ca...E2%80%99s-ugly/

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) Even a good number of pro-life people were against that measure because of the consequences that would result. However, both candidates for Governor in Mississippi supported the measure.

So a fifth woman is coming out and saying Cain is a creeper who made me uncomfortable. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/67819.html

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) Settlements mean absolutely nothing. It's ten times cheaper to pay someone off than to take a case through trial. I do it all the time. Unfortunately that's the way our justice system works. I could begrudgingly get with this if it was one settlement. Unfortunately, its not. It's becoming a pattern of behavior apparently, and Cain's inability to handle his scandal makes me think that there is a lot of this behavior that he's embarrassed about. When you deny whatever comes out, and gradually over the week, you basically prove the story right while still sort of denying it, you lead me to question your honesty in this matter.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) I accept your apology for claiming to know what her "instinctual response" should be. She was probably asking for it, anyway. This is ridiculous and inappropriate. Enough.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 7, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) Translation: "I didn't really want to do this, until someone handed me 20k to make this press conference." What a joke. I also liked how she phrased what happened to her. In a prepared statement written by attorneys, her first "response" to Cain physically touching her wasn't "hey what are you doing?! You can't do that!" It was "hey, you know I have a boyfriend." Basically she's alleging sexual assault. The story doesn't seem all that believable to me, on its surface, but after two confirmed financial settlements because of this kind of matter - you gotta wonder if there is a fire under all that smoke. It's no tiger suit picture, but this thing just keeps growing.

This is not the bash individual poster thread. I thought we'd establish that. But apparently we haven't so its closed.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Nov 6, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I like how consistently disagreeing with the resident fruit makes me bull-headed and single-minded. If I was instead a steadfast liberal, holding such views with the same consistency that I hold conservative ones, he wouldn't say a word. But God forbid someone be consistently conservative, because refusing to submit to the all-knowing genius known as Big Sqwert is a sure sign of unholy bullheaded-ness. Pathetic. As the resident fruit on this board, I don't know why we consistently disagree. As the resident fruit, I would just like to remind the poster that he had me mistaken for someone else. And as a mod on this board, I would like to remind the poster that this sort of name calling is not really allowed here. And by the way, in your first post in this thread, you said that Scott Olsen was the person who ran "I Hate The Marines dot com". Turns out, it was not this Scott Olsen - but another Scott Olsen. Actually the Scott Olsen who was injured in the protests was serving our country in Iraq when that domain name was purchased and website brought up. The Scott Olsen who founded the domain in question lived in Southern Illinois, and the Scott Olsen who was injured lived in Wisconsin at the time.

A second Iraq War Vet has been put in intensive care this week by Oakland police. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/nov/0...veteran-injured Sabehgi told the Guardian from hospital he was walking alone along 14th Street in central Oakland – away from the main area of clashes – when he was injured.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) And the Dem's response to this sure hasn't been "Its none of our Business..." Actually the scandal itself doesn't really do one thing or another to me in the way I feel about a candidate. It's how they handle their scandal that matters. And frankly, if I was a Cainiac right about now, looking at the 10 different stories he's told in four days, I would really start to reevaluate how competent this person would be if he actually had to make decisions that would affect people's lives. His whole campaign has been about being an outsider with character to be President. The truth is, he seems to be neither an outsider or have the character he claims.
