Nagin criticizes World Trade Center rebuilding
Rex Kickass replied to Steff's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Los Angeles and San Francisco are starting to get their acts together, but it's still going to take a lot more money and less annoyance from some of the politicians to do the job right (i.e. several hundred million dollars were spent designing a new suspension bay bridge that would be earthquake proof, then Arnold delayed the thing by years by telling it to go back to the drawing board.) And that is one that we're certainly overdue for. Boston as well. A couple of those storms hit New York in the late 1800's, and none have come through since. The skyscrapers in the area will be a major part of the new story, as having those there will create wind tunnels that will make the winds move much faster than they would have without those buildings. That is one that I think we should expect within our lifetimes. You know what's weird? A direct hit on New York would be easier on the city than a direct hit on where I live. Apparently, that's the WCS. Because it would cause storm surges to shoot up the Hudson and, to a lesser extent, the Delaware. Which means most of Brooklyn disappears underwater and literally thousands dead, and potentially a million homeless. (I live on the Central New Jersey shore) -
Apparently, the plane may not have ever left the ground. The signs point to the plane overshooting the runway and bursting into flames as a result of the impact.

Should Rove take Armitage out back and beat his a**?
Rex Kickass replied to EvilMonkey's topic in The Filibuster
Actually if you read the story you cited, it says that White House officials, including Karl Rove, offered the SAME classified information to other reporters who chose not to use it, including Matt Cooper at Time and Judith Miller at the New York Times - who went to jail to protect her source which she made public as Scooter Libby. Whether that reporter prints the story or not, does not make a difference as to whether or not the leak was legal. To say that because Rove didn't technically violate the law, he shouldn't have been investigated is false. He appeared to have been implicated by several reporters who had a source and did speak with the special prosecutor. If you remember correctly, they seemed to be the ones who pointed the investigation along the proper channels - since they were the ones talked to first. And why doesn't our Attorney General take some blame here anyway? Our president said that whoever was responsible for this action would be fired. White House counsel knew where the leak may have lied from day one and did nothing to investigate that situation further. If this was an administration who actually cared about accountability for its own actions, it would have used that information to hold the leaker(s) responsible for their own actions. -

Should Rove take Armitage out back and beat his a**?
Rex Kickass replied to EvilMonkey's topic in The Filibuster
If you recall correctly, Fitzgerald's first indictments were regarding Perjury, and not the actual leaking of the CIA operative. Why? Because in statements associated with the original indictments of Scooter Libby, Fitzgerald basically said that the testimony that he received was so full of BS, that it was impeding the actual investigation. The story does implicate White House officials who did confirm the identity of Valerie Plame. And whether or not an actual leak came out of the mouth of Karl Rove, it was partially his political machinations that allowed the White House to try to use the identity of an undercover CIA agent in an attempt to discredit a critic of the administration. Legal or not, that's unacceptable - period. Legal or not, its at the very least deserving of a thorough investigation - one which a partisan Congress chose not to seriously exercise. -

So they are reporting that its probably pilot error related to using the wrong runway. The plane was scheduled to use runway 2-2 which is 7000 feet long, instead they used 2-6 which is half as long and too short for a CRJ 100. The plane did get briefly airborne but probably stalled out because it was moving too slowly for the angle of attack at which it was climbing. The plane crashed and most people probably survived the initial impact because the fuselage remained intact. However the fire that followed killed them quickly.

Nagin criticizes World Trade Center rebuilding

Well, Nagin may not feel the need to tow flood damaged cars out of neighborhoods since the first hurricane to be of 2006 appears to be headed right for New Orleans. -

Nagin criticizes World Trade Center rebuilding
Rex Kickass replied to Steff's topic in The Filibuster
Nagin is a jackass who makes a great point. The handling of WTC site has been pretty piss poor. A lot of government agencies and a developer fighting about what goes on at a site around it. The Empire State building was built top to bottom within one year. Five years after 9/11 and they're just starting to work on a foundation for a building that hasn't had its final design made yet. -
The sad thing is that the only reason the FDA finally issued a decision on it is that they weren't going to get any new FDA commisioners until the body made an up or down decision on making Plan B available over the counter. Some Democrat Senators assured of it. Their "hold" on putting new FDA commissioners in wasn't based on approval - although the new FDA comissioner nominated did approve of Plan B being made available over the counter - but rather this decision which had been put off two years.

Which means that the story they saw had a very specific point of view. Or bias. I just read "A Hundred and One Days" by Asne Seierstad, the same woman who wrote "The Bookseller of Kabul." It's a clearly interesting read - as she rode out the invasion from her hotel in Baghdad as a journalist for like 8 different Northern Europe TV, Radio and Newspaper properties and what surprised me the most is the lack of American media present. Too often media in our country is faced with keeping resources in one part of a conflict or the other - and in important ones, not having resources in both. FOX News, to its credit, was the only American network to keep resources in Gaza as well as resources in Israel and Lebanon recently.

In-ish. I'd say the chances of a Wild Card berth are probably 65-35, but I don't see us making much noise in the playoffs. I don't see the same spark, I don't see the same fire, I don't see the same magic. But then again, I get to watch like 8 games a year (even on TV) - so what the hell do I really know?
