Kerry calls for Iraq deadlines, exit
We don't have the option of "staying the course" either. We've done that and that is failing. What we have to do, is fulfill our responsibility to the people of Iraq. Which we aren't doing.

Kerry calls for Iraq deadlines, exit
It's also terrible policy. Us leaving doesn't stop us from being a recruiting tool. Us staying doesn't stop us from being a recruiting tool. Us being seen as a positive force in the region - stopping poverty and helping to build a strong Iraq does. Unfortunately, nothing we've done in that arena has stuck - yet. Before John Kerry ran for President in 2004, he was a good Senator - a responsible Senator, now he just grandstands.

Delay Finallly Giving Up
No offense, but if people actually took time to get to know the candidates they elect, they wouldn't be so shocked when things get OMGBAD! For example, do you know who the Democrat trying to get elected in TX-02 is? Yet you called him an extremist. What about his positions make him an extremist?

Couric to anchor CBS News?
It's a mistake, their interim anchor Bob Schieffer has put CBS a hair's breath away from making World News Tonight the third place network news show.

Canada Cuts Off Ties with Palestine
QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) That's good. As long as the help doesn't come in the form of taxpayer revenue and it doesn't compromise national security, I agree. One could make the argument that isolating a people turning to democracy in a region of the world where Democracy is rare is a compromise to our national security goals.

All that report really says is that low income people use more services and since a lot of undocumented workers are low income, that they have to use the services. I wonder if this study accounts for the higher average pay that undocumented workers would get if they had legitimate papers to stay in the U.S. My guess is that it would be much higher.

Canada Cuts Off Ties with Palestine
The security wall that Israel built actually took a lot of the most arable land that the West Bank had and put it on the Israeli side of the wall.

Canada Cuts Off Ties with Palestine
I have a friend of mine who helped work to administer the Palestinian elections this January. He wants to go back and help the Palestinian people feed and educate themselves. The problem is without foreign aid to the PA a lot of that humanitarian aid won't get there. It won't be able to. This is such a complicated issue. We're faced with a question of whether to support a legitimately elected legislature that happens to have a majority party whom we don't like - and hope that the responsibilities of legitimate power will moderate them, or whether to cut off this aid hoping that the new government will subjugate to the will of foreign agents that it didn't like that much to begin with. The risks on either side is high, the benefits aren't. Tough decision.

If we told companies that were hiring illegal labor to do their jobs, that if we catch you, we'll fine you so hard that you'll shut down or cripple your business, and if you do it intentionally we'll put your ass in jail - within two years - the illegal immigration issue will solve itself.

Scalia and his bird.
It looks like the story was edited at about 9:30 last night. I just cut and pasted, honest.

NYT: Bush was set on Iraq war
QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) IIRC, the affiliate was being sold to another company. Before the new ownership picked up AAR, its future was certainly up in the air. No, it's actually a pretty good example. CBS didn't bother to authenticate the documents, which certainly falls into the "poor journalistic practices" category. Mary Mapes was also talking to Joe Lockhart about this behind the scenes, showing the obvious political bias in her story. The fact that CBS still stands by the independently-confirmed fraudulent documents means nothing. How many convicted murderers in Rikers still stand by their innocent plea? Actually the story was completely false regarding AAR. ICBC - the NY station's owner is partially owned by the same person that the blog alleged was purchasing the station - Randy Michaels. There was no impending sale.

NYT: Bush was set on Iraq war
QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) If the memo's been out for years, why are they re-releasing the information? Which journalistic obligation does that fulfill? Not always. And yellow journalism is still a problem, as evidenced by the Rathergate scandal. Sort of like Fox News running with a rumor from a blog about Air America Radio losing its New York affiliate. That turned out to be false. The "Rathergate" scandal is a pretty piss-poor example of yellow journalism, because although those memos were false, CBS stood by and still stands by the main crux of the story. The allegations were never actually denied and those documents were just one piece of a lot of other verified evidence.

NYT: Bush was set on Iraq war
As long as one party consistently questions the legitimacy of the other Presidency, you'll see things like this. You saw it with Bill Clinton, and you see it with George Bush. These are extremely serious allegations though. And at first glance appear to be legit.
