Has anyone actually seen what happened on video? Because I'm starting to hear the account as less of a slap and more of a push than previous accounts. More along the lines of pushing her cell phone into the guard's arm or chest.... or something like that. But I have no idea, I was half listening to the radio when I caught that. Either way though, she oughta get at the very least a censure for this.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 04:24 AM) Two months ago or so, Cheney said Bush has given him that power. Yes he did. But if the issue ever formally comes up, if there's no documentation, Cheney could be in some kind of trouble - although its hazy.

I don't see what the huge harm is here. It's an old guy telling a story. And although it wouldn't be my choice of stories, it's still just what it is. Excuse me if I don't go out of my way to condemn what an ex-President says in an interview to a blogger when it isn't that flameworthy to begin with. But I'll make the Republicans a deal here. When they're willing to start holding themselves at least a little accountable for their own mistakes, I'll hold Jimmy Carter accountable for saying that Democrats care more than Republicans. Because the truth is the GOP is making Jimmy Carter's words ring truer than they should. Do I think the Republican leadership gives two s***s about helping the poor? No I really don't think that they do. Do I think the Republican leadership gives two s***s about the acceptability of torture under any circumstance? No I don't think that they do. And their actions seem to belie that point specifically. Before anyone flames me about just hating the Bush administration or whatever, I didn't say that all Democrats or that the Dem leadership does or would... but at least I know that a lot of the people fighting for Democratic representation will hold their guys feet to the fire when it comes to this. A lot of the Dems that I've talked to, that I've worked with, that have gotten inspired in the last three years to be activist, aren't going to give their rep a free pass because of the D after their name. I sure as hell won't either. The Democrats I support at least are giving lip service to the issues that I care about - that's why I support them. I find it hard to find many in the GOP who give two s***s about what I care about, with the possible exception of immigration reform. I'm partisan, but I haven't always been. I feel painted in that corner.

Last time I checked Democrats don't kill babies. Although I will have to go over the notes of my last party meeting to make sure.

So, a girl asks a former Democrat President if she should be a Democrat or Republican and you're shocked that he says "be a Democrat?"

Welcome! And it takes time to build chemistry. Rarely is it ever actually there from day one.

Yes but their Salad Cream doesn't include Cauliflower I bet. This yellow poop is clearly IKEA approved!

And we're closing.

This will happen. It just takes time.

He has to say that. Because its always the case. Regardless of who's in office. He just puts himself in a position where he's asked to say it all the time.

AJ usually comes up to Be Yourself, right?

Ketchup is acceptable on crappy store bought hot dogs, although not ideal. With a real dog, please stay away. Mustard, Relish, acceptable and preferred. Danish Hot Dog Sauce! Of course! Mayonaisse, save it for the burger - or as its meant to be used with, French Fries!

Some of the gospels though came out approximately the same time as the "Big 4" if you will.... and were just excluded because they didn't fit together quite as nicely IIRC.

You're right. Limited airstrikes = full scale invasion. I hope and pray that the folks running State and Defense understand that.

Well, that's true regarding NIE briefings. Not removing CIA cover though - that itself is illegal period, I believe. And the Vice President does not have the power to declassify unless given in writing by the President.

Somehow we did just fine in 230 years without an official language. I think we'll be fine for the next 230 years too.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Rex, is it true in the radio business that the top 5% of broadcasters make 95% of the money? I had to have some of my friends talk some sense into me when I was upset for not getting the money I was looking for while job hunting, and I am really glad I went to college for a quality education. I can't imagine how hard it must be to try and live off of $18000-$25000 a year. The best I ever did, with 9 years in the business, doing mornings (in a small market) was $25.5K a year. At one point, in 2003, I was doing nights, promotions director and was the assistant program director in a medium market for 21K. Had my insurance premiums increased by 1000 a year, given no raise and received a company memo telling me that "thanks to your hard work, we just experienced the most profitable year in the company's history."

Moving this to Filibuster - because it's getting well filibustery.

The problem is when you build an entire infrastructure based around cheap gas - and the price of gas shocks up higher, a lot of people who depend on it for their livelihood are adversely affected.

Why didn't he just stop running ten years ago if it was such a burden? The rest of the world would be better off as a result.
-
He can't follow the same pattern this time, the political climate is much different and much less forgiving. Although I could see an effort to make something happen - and perhaps limited air strikes, I just don't see a groundswell of support to make this stuff happen.

Although I'm not familiar with them - I love the idea of the Gnostic Gospels. I love the fact that there are competing stories about Christ's life. And I love that some of them aren't afraid to portray Jesus in an unflattering light at times. Isn't there a story in the Infancy gospel about how Jesus make a dove out of clay and then kills it? And then he feels bad about it? Right now I'm reading a book called "The End of Faith." I think it's meant to be a modern day update of Neitzche's whole "God is dead" thing. I don't know if he makes a good point or not to be honest because my thinking is so clouded by his obvious and unmasked contempt for religion.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 02:23 AM) Last I checked environmentalist were preventing us from building more refineries. There are plenty of closed refineries that could be reopened.
