  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) I think they'll struggle in Iowa too, which tends to be pretty moderate. Sarah Palin paid off a lot of people in the GOP establishment in Iowa. If she runs, she's got solid institutional support I would bet.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 09:08 AM) Update on previous issue: That was a brief suspension. Sounds an awful lot like a capitulation on the part of management. Or priming the pump for 1.5-2 million viewers tomorrow.
  4. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 6, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) So you think IL,CA NY are going to pay for their own debts? LMAO!!!!! The gov't portion of the BAB's is multiple billions. And that is for just the past, what 18 months at most. So I beg to differ with who will turn out the big losers here. The BAB bonds to California since inception would account for less than half of the additional amount that California taxpayers paid into the system in 2005.
  5. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 6, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) What states received the most stimulus money to keep public employees employed? What states are going to get bailed out by the Feds for pension give aways? What states have received the largest subsidies from Build America Bonds? I can assure you TN, MS,and VA, will not show up on the top 5 maybe even top ten. CA, IL, NY, NJ are broke. Who do you think is going to end up footing the bill? Texas will though!
  6. Unnamed sources are now coming out of MSNBC saying that the NBC News ethics rules stopped applying to MSNBC a few years back, and this may have more to do with personal animosity between Olbermann and the head of MSNBC than anything else.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) Massive surges in Dem voting at the end of vote-counting is incredibly, incredibly common...because urban areas in a lot of states tend to be the last ones to report, and urban areas tend to give you a lot of Democrat votes. In the governor's race in Oregon, for example, even though there was a 1000 vote lead for the former NBA player, everyone did the math and said "There are several thousand votes remaining to be counted from an area that typically goes 80/20 Democrat". It was easy to predict in that instance. I can personally recall watching the early returns on Indiana in the 2008 election and insisting to a co-worker "don't worry, Obama's only down 8 points, that's insanely good, look at the counties that haven't reported yet, Indianapolis and Gary are sitting there with 1% reporting". Actually, the same thing happened in my Congressional district. My candidate was down 20 points for most of the night, then 8 points. When it got to 7 or 8 points, we felt good because my city hadn't reported yet - and I tracked those numbers throughout the day, and I knew that they had turned out more voters for a non-Obama election than anytime in the past five years. Sure enough, the 8,000 vote edge our city gave our Congressional candidate the win. There were problems with three machines that resulted in delays of vote totals for a couple hours. In 2005, I worked on a campaign where the reverse happened. My state leg candidates were pacing out of their minds in much of the district, but the last town (and largest) hadn't yet reported. It was the firewall for the Republican candidates. We were winning, we were winning, we were winning and then, oops we lost! If you wanna talk about legit fraud, youd need better examples than Bridgeport, CT - especially since those issues were well known before the polls closed. Polling places had to be kept open two extra hours because of a lack of ballots among other issues - you'd need a sudden shift to Alexi in Illinois where it was super tight or a sudden shift to Sestak in PA where it was super tight, after the GOP had started to creep into a lead. The CO-Senator error came from the AP actually, when it accidentally reported 40,000 extra votes for the Republican candidate from Boulder (the most liberal area of the state) that were actually for the DEM candidate.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Did he notify management? Wasn't there, couldn't tell ya
  9. Joe Scarborough made donations to GOP candidates in 2006. He was not suspended.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) I'm not sure I;d want to disclose that I donated to a Dem if I worked for Fox News. Rupert Murdoch donated to Hillary's 2006 Senate campaign. You'd probably be just fine.
  11. I doubt anything big will come out of this. In a week, he'll be back at the anchor desk. He's one of two people on that network that can attract a million viewers at a time, and MSNBC doesn't exactly have a deep talent bench.
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Keith Olberman has been suspended from MSNBC for contributing to political campaigns without gaining prior approval from NBC News. Frankly, that's the way it should be.
  13. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) It's boggling you don't see how arrogant this is. Just who the hell do you think you are to decide what is essential to someone. Funny, I tend to think the same thing when someone says the same about someone on some form of assistance.
  14. Should also note that August and September numbers were revised up a net 100k jobs total as well.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) Not to mention Balta's blurb about the airforce spending 75M alone per trip during the Clinton admin. Maybe we just look at it as this is going to be the most people traveling on any one international voyage and I would be curious what the need is for that many people. Could be very valid reasons and to an extent I'm sure we'll find out when we see all the various appearances Barack makes. I just wonder what the need is to have all these other people. I did a 2 minute google search on this last night and found GAO cost estimates of Clinton travel in the last parts of his presidency, and it was more like 2-5 million in airforce costs per trip. http://www.gao.gov/archive/2000/ns00209.pdf Further if these business people are flying on their own and are flying on private jets, its very likely that the government isn't picking up the tab for their travel either.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) And in regards to the paycheck, I threw half out there because it sounds good. Don't take it so literaly. It still sucks when you realize that 24% to 31% of your check is gone for taxes and things like social security which most may never ever see a penny of. You may notcare about those things at 15, but when you start getting a paycheck, you do. I've been getting paychecks for over a decade now and I haven't had a problem with the taxes that were taken out, except for when the accountant was accidentally withholding double what he was supposed to on my check.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) You and Balta still with the short memories. Do you not remember 1994? There was a lot of anger specifically directed at Clinton. And yet, things worked out for the better after the fact. You seem to forget impeachment. Boehner hasn't been as upfront about obstructionism, but when he was asked on his legislative agenda, he deferred to Obama. Give the 94 GOP this, at least they had a legislative plan for the following year. Boehner means he has very little planned other than saying No, and possibly passing out lobbyist checks on the House floor again, I would wager.
  18. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 10:42 AM) But if the actual figure of 3000 people is correct, the cost of operating the planes alone, which I would think has to be close to 15 or so, would be at least 8-10 million dollars, no? Not per day. I'm guessing here that the final total of a per day cost would have about 2 fewer zeros before the decimal point. It might be 3 mil a day or even 4 million a day. I just can't see, even at a woefully bloated budget, how it would cost 200 million dollars of US money to have the President hosted in India.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) I will also say she was highly impressive during her debates in my opinion. And I think her experience at HP and business in general made her an intriguing candidate. I also am comparing her to Barbara Boxer who I personally find to be a lousy senator based upon my political viewpoints. And Fiorina was one of the few parties who for the most part (and I just might be ignorant and unaware) didn't do a lot of smear campaigning. Boxer hit her with low blows late and based upon the polls it would appear that those below the belt shots cost her at the very least a shot at the election. Fiorina spent about 5-7 million on the election with 3 to 4 million being her own and the remainder coming from the republican party. When outside money is spending 4 million a month in anti-Boxer ads in September and October, you don't need to do the dirty work yourself.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) I'm asking you to do the exact same thing. You tell me why it is unreasonable for you to do it too. I would wager that a cost of 2 million dollars a day is probably closer to the cost than 200 million dollars a day. It's not like the Presidential security team is a per hour job.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) really? so when we hear about these bills they're considered bipartisan? I could have sworn we say things like "Bush's tax cuts." We also call it Obamacare, when what ended up happening was a Frankenbill that didn't really resemble Obama's original proposals.
  22. QUOTE (xxx @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) Swear word, insult and meritless comment. QUOTE (xxx @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) Pointless inflammatory rebuttal Perhaps you had the Filibuster confused with "The Pissing Contest" Forum. That's not in this forum, so if you have a beef - take it outside. Keep it respectful or take it elsewhere.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) Right, because this is our one and only shot to make an impression. And a 5 day trip in 2010 is going to make all the difference. I love this attitude that the United States HAS to do x, y, and z or else the world will never talk to us again. When did that start? I think if you start insisting countries meet in teleconference instead of in person with our leader, it will make negotiations considerably more difficult. There is a reason why sales forces still travel to meet with people they stand to benefit from. And its not for air miles or that wonderful Hyatt bed.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) Whitman spent $150 mil in eBay listing fees from porn sellers. Actually the total for Whitman's campaign was over 161 million dollars. Which is bigger than the NEA's budget for 2010.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 09:22 AM) 28 of the 54 members of the blue dog caucus lost. There is a "progressive caucus" too. 79 members. Call them the Anti-Blue Dogs. Only four of them lost.
