The problem with taking an MVP award away from someone, in this case Braun, is how do we know that the runner up (Matt Kemp?) isn't a roider as well. All of the awards are tainted in my book as no one in MLB is above suspiscion. What if MLB took the MVP away from Braun and then evidence turns up inditing Kemp. I can vividly remember several years ago when everyone hated Barry Bonds and many wanted Arod to hurry up and break the home run record because he was seen as clean. We now see how that turned out.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) This popped into my head the other day for some reason but I don't remember the last time a coach won a championship in Chicago and he didn't have some sort of facial hair. Ditka had a mustache, Quenneville had a mustache, Phil Jackson always had a mustache or a full beard during the playoffs and Ozzie usually had a goatee. I believe all of the current coaches except Q are clean-shaven. Now think about which team has the best chance to win a championship right now... /end half-joking conspiracy theory You forgot about the 2008 Cubs, Sweet Lou.........Oh wait.........nevermind.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 06:57 AM) Not happy to be here? Ventura worked harder in his one year, than Guillen did in his eight years combined as Sox manager. I get people like to freak out and all, but can we quit making stuff up, please? I agree.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 09:04 AM) The pitching is still incredibly suspect. I honestly think it's going to be a race for 2nd place anyways, but crazier things have happened. So long as Ventura continues the work he did last year, the Sox are going to be the most fundamentally sound team in the Central once again. Hey, lookey there! We've finally become the team that we've wanted to be for the last 10 years.......The Minnesota Twins! -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Feb 10, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) Former Bears GM Jerry Angelo believes the two most "intoxicating and overrated trait(s) that teams use to justify their draft picks is speed and/or athletic ability." Angelo believes "speed and raw talent are the real separators between the average and above players," so teams generally fall for players with that natural athleticism. However, Angelo goes on to write that "there are much better ways to evaluate a football player than on just speed or athleticism." Per Rotoworld Says the man who sucked at drafting for Da Bears. Why would anyone even ask Jerry Angelo for draft advice? That would be comparable to asking Rosie O'Donnell how to lose weight. Jerry Angelo has to know his reputation as a poor drafter, that's why he was fired, why would he even offer advice when asked?

Did not know where else to place this so I just started a new thread. Feel free to move this if this isn't the proper place. It seems like most are kind of assuming that Angel Sanchez will be the back up infielder on the Major League club this season. I don't know much about him, but I do seem to remember that Robin Ventura really liked Tyler Saladino last spring and I think that he almost made the team. What kind of a chance do Soxtalkers think that Saladino has this year, or is Angel Sanchez simply a better choice?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2013 -> 09:06 AM) Oh, and honestly, the guy I am most excited about listed in the article is Zach Stewart. Thanks for the info. I have a feeling that Cooper really likes something about Stewart that prompted his reaquisition. Boston at least saw a little potential in him as well to have him included in the Youkilis trade last season. We shall see if the Sox can get his potential realized.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) A look at some of the highly talented, but so far failed, arms that the Sox picked up recently: Reckling, Moskos, Brackman, others. And the Coop Will Fix 'Em phenomenon. I do not know anything about anyone of these guys. Does anyone have an opinion on which of these guys have the best shot at realizing their potential?

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:49 PM) Why would Greg be banned? He does not break any rules here, he just has different opinions. I have no idea, I'm not here constantly. I was just wondering where he went. He was frustrating, but always interesting.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) yes Where did Greg go anyway, was he banned?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) Looking in our division, the best farm system in baseball can't even produce one starter. The Sox have done better than that. You're absolutely right! I don't really care what these very biased national publications think of the White Sox farm system. They are wrong much more often than they're right. Professional scouts have a hard enough time judging talent let alone the overpaid "experts" at the publications. I don't follow other teams that close, but it seems to me that the Sox have gotten more actual production from their farm than most other major league teams.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) I'm not sold on Lohse as an AL Central starter either, especially at 25 times the annual cost of Quintana or Santiago. I think that Lohse would be HUGE mistake. He would get destroyed in the A.L. I'd much rather take my chances with keeping Gavin Floyd and the draft pick for less money.

Ventura stressing more contact and less K's

Other than Viciedo, which I tend to agree you don't platoon just yet, it could be insurance (expensive insurance) for other spots as well. Say that Rios reverts back to sucking (it is an odd numbered year), or someone gets injured. I have no idea what other positions Ethier can play, but maybe a few games at 1st base. Can he play 3rd? It's not a totally bad idea, but I'm not sure how realistic. -
I'm a Purdue Alum, but I can't say that I've been a fan of the Purdue football program since Joe Tiller left.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) It sheds a new light on a lot of last season's going ons. This isn't something they stumbled onto overnight. Other than Bartolo are you thinking of someone in particular? I despise mentioning names with no proof, but no one is above suspicion in todays sports world so.......could this possibly be the reason for A.J.'s well above average season? He never struck me as the type to do this, but again, I would not be totally suprised at anyone on that list.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 08:54 AM) The concern in general about the whole bench is a bit much, I think. Last year our bench had a guy coming off a .845 OPS and another with a career .360 OBP. They were terrible. It's hard to predict how guys who aren't good enough to start anymore (or never were) are going to perform in a very small sample. You just have to hope they aren't used much. Luckily we have the best conditioning staff in baseball and miss fewer days to the DL than anyone. It'd be nice to have at least one guy on the bench with some power, but I'll wait to see what the roster is two months from now. If there is truly a problem with the bench that turns out to hinder the team significantly, it will be addressed during the season. Thank God it's only a little over 2 months away.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) 3rd to 1st fake is still a blatant balk. It's obviously never used to attempt to pick the runner off 3B, so it essentially amounts to a fake throw towards 1st (which only works about 1% of the time). It's illegal and deceptive towards a runner that is forced to make a split decision on whether to run upon contact. I've always thought that the 1st to 3rd was a blatant balk as well however, I have a question about the whole pitcher & runner thing that maybe someone can help me with. Why is it that the pitcher is not allowed to decieve the runner while the runner can make false starts and jiggle around as much as he wants to decieve the pitcher, catcher, and infielders? It just seems a little unfair fair to me. I would think that it would be better to either allow both the pitcher and runner to try and decieve each other, or niether. Actually, even though it may make the game longer, it might be pretty entertaining to watch a pitcher and a runner try to fake each other out. -
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) On the contrary, I don't know how anyone could not like listening to him. He's a gold mine. I'm clearly in the minority, though. I don't think I'll be able to listen to games on the radio when the day comes that he isn't doing them anymore. Regarding this year's Soxfest- I was really glad to hear Jermaine Dye was a part of the event. He's someone I wouldn't mind seeing around the team more often. I agree, I like listening to Ed & DJ. I am sure however that in 10 or however many years from now, when they are no longer there, that I will enjoy listening to whoever their replacements are. Love listening to White Sox baseball!

My guess is that Don Cooper sees something in Stewart that he really likes and wants another chance to try and develope this in him.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) There are definitely many, many others I'd take above Jaye right now. I see a scouting report like that and, even in the Sox system, I can't help but think he should be rated in the 15-20 range at best. Maybe he has family that works at BP.

I saw that and was going to post it as well. I guess he learned how to understand and speak english over the last few years. What a clown.

QUOTE (Leonard of Berwyn @ Jan 20, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) Kelly Johnson can play 3B, 2B and LF. George Kottaras is a LH catcher. Both would look good in a Sox uniform. Welcome, and I approve of this post. Go get em R.H.!

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) If he came in at minimal salary and was told he was the backup QB/tight end/ H back kind of a player it could be worth a shot. You could design some creative plays with him and Cutler on the field. Similar to Kordell Stewart with the Steelers, not the version in Chicago when he was the starting QB. From what we've heard Trestman could be just the coach to get the most out of that situation too. If Lovie / Tice were still here I would think that Tebow would be a big mistake. With Trestman not so much.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6960156.story I'll be ticked if he wears out before the end of the season. I hate our pitchers doing unnecessary pitching.
