  1. QUOTE (floridafan @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) I do not feel privileged to divulge that information... But it was VERY painful, and occurred while waiting in the on deck circle... Ouch!
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) see, this is where the opposition (people like Bernstein) takes things to an extreme. Just because you believe that doesnt mean you HATE the person. I believe homosexuality is a biblical sin. but the bible says to LOVE your neighbor as you love yourself. I'll love any gay person as a human being. But, when we all die, God will judge. Maybe I am wrong. I'll leave that up to god. Does believing being gay is a sin make you a bigot? I believe that depends on your actions and I'd never treat a gay person any differently than a straight or bi person. This is the only post I will have on this topic because I do not want this to turn into a religious debate. I agree with the above quote 100%. As a devout christian and one who believes that the Bible is the Word of God; Dan Bernstein really ticked me off yesterday when he stated that the Bible is outdated in alot of areas and needs to be "reformed" as he says. Of course "reformed" to his way of thinking; which is, in my opinion 100% wrong! I, for one, will find something else to listen to on the way home from work. I only tolerated B & B before when they were actually talking sports. I will now not be tuning in to AM 670 when Bernstein is on. I'm out.
  3. Didn't we recently resign the great Brandon Allen?
  4. I really hate to say this and I know it's still early but.........I have the distinct feeling that this team is going to fall too far behind in the race, then get hot enough to almost crawl back in it. This, once again, gives our management the false perception that this really is a good team that just got off to a bad start so the only move they make at the deadline is giving up a decent prospect for some "past his prime" veteran. Then we have the usual late August - September swoon, leaving us fans pi**** off and one less respectable prospect to root for. I think that I tend to be an optimist most of the time too.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 07:05 AM) Why are you comparing the AL Central to the NL Central? Um....the Astros are no longer in the N.L. Central.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) I remember when I first realized Hawk didn't know how to properly evaluate White Sox players: He was GUSHING over Jeff Liefer saying he would be a great hitter given 500 AB's. Might have even said he could hit 30 HR's. Hawk was gospel to me at that point (I wanna say this was sometime in 2002.. maybe) it's been a slow decline since then. With not only player evaluation but calling a baseball game too. Counterpoint: I also remember very vividly back in 2000 when Mark Buehrle was trying to gain a roster spot in spring training. Most were praising the promise of guys like Jon Garland, Jim Parque and Mike Sirotka. Hawk went out of his way "GUSHING" over Buehrle, saying among other things that he thought that Mark knew how to pitch, would be the best of the bunch, etc. How'd that turn out? All baseball guys, pro scouts included, hit and miss on prospects. They are prospects for a reason.
  7. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) Anybody else hate interleague as much as me? We will lose one of Tank, Konerko or Dunn for each of the three games. I absolutely abhor interleague play as well. I can't stand the disadvantages that 1 team has by not having a roster constructed for the other leagues rules. I think that it is especially harmful to an American League team to work wothout the DH for a series. Our pitchers have not held a bat for years in some cases, and I really don't want them wasting time trying to learn how to hit.
  8. Maybe Axlerod is a better hitter?
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) Hawk did and wanted Fisk play LF. Wasn't Walker still touted as the firstbaseman of the future at that time, or was this after Walker?
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) Posey has hit for power at every stop, which increases his value. Mauer has hit for significant power literally one year of his career, and it so happened to be his contract year. Mauer is a glorified singles hitter, while Posey is a .320 25 .950 threat every year. With more interleague play happening now Posey will have several opportunities to "rest" by DHing.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 29, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) So does being a "slightly below average" LF mean he would be rated as much lower than an average LF if you take away, let's say, 10 of those assists ? WAR takes into account defensive metrics so how many assists would a replacement level LF have? I'm just trying to establish what an assist is worth from an outfielder. Personally I think its a very important stat though I realize the more you establish yourself as a guy with a strong accurate arm the less likely you are to be run on so assists totals will go down. But still when you establish that arm in the mind of base runners , you also prevent runners from taking the extra base because of your rep. I would think something like that is very difficult, if not impossible, to work into defensive metrics. It seems to me that I have heard before that having a lot of assists for an outfielder is actually a negative thing. If an outfielder has a lot of assists it's a sign that runners don't fear them very much so they constantly try to take an extra base. Don't most outfielders with good arms actually have few assists due to runners being afraid to run on them?
  12. Congratulations! This may be a stupid question from an out of touch old fart, but.........what exactly is Fan Cave?
  13. Is it a definite decision that Urlacher is gone? Is this not the same as breaking off negotiations.....for now? After a month or 2, depending on how the draft goes, if Brian realizes that he's not all that anymore, and the Bears still need someone, could they not "resume negotiations"? The Bears would have a better idea where they stand cap wise by then and if Brian has no other offer this might still work. It just seems to me that this is not a done deal just yet.
  14. I really do respect the opinion of everyone here.....well....most of you anyway, but I believe that Hahn, Ventura, and Cooper have a strong desire to win. They also, along with Mister Schneider, know best the condition of Jon Danks. I for one will trust their opinions on who the 5th starter should be, temporarily or not.
  15. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) Oh, huh. Tells you how often I listen to 1000, i didnt even know Scott Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo had a show! lol Yea, i think we know see the long term plan... ESPN National until 2pm, then local from 2pm-10pm. Carmen DeFalco and John Jurkovic get shown the door when contracts expire. In my book this would be a good thing. Have the SCORE bring in DeFalco and team him with Holmes in the evenings. I'd listen to those 2 every night.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 10:13 AM) I think Angel Sanchez and Gillaspie are both on the team. Assuming 100% health, I think the 11 remaining cuts are: OF: Danks, Tekotte IF: Tolleson, Bell C: Anderson P: Gray, Septimo, Omogrosso, Purcey, Troncoso, Axelrod I agree with this, however I do have a question that hopefully some of you can give me some insight on. It would be nice if one of our bench players was capable of playing several positions such as both infield and outfield, outfield and catcher, etc. in a fairly competent way to give R. V. a little more flexibility late in a game for pinch hitting, running, injury, etc. Something like Lillibridge used to be able to do. Would someone like say Jordan Danks, who has to realize by now that his chances of making a major league club strictly as an outfielder are dwindling, be open to and actively seek to learn another position to make them a little more valuable to a team? In this case, if Danks could play, at least fairly competently for a few innings at most, 3rd base or even better yet, catcher that would increase his value tremendously. As a professional athlete I can't imagine that it would be too terribly hard to at least learn the basics of a position competently. Any opinions? - like I really have to ask around here
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 05:54 AM) If we were to trade Sale, we wouldn't be adding a guy like Starlin back. It makes no sense. Agree 100%. I want nothing to do with that weak minded loser.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 06:02 AM) We do seem to have a knack for players coming back from the dead. Is this a Jermaine Dye reference?
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 12, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) So you see Alex Rios playing well again, Tyler Flowers matching AJ's 2012 output, Paul Konerko staying healthy, and Adam Dunn hitting 40 jacks? This offense is going to be horrific. Pretty much everything went right last year and they were still painful. I believe that others have expressed my sentiments quite well on this issue.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) God, this offense is going to suck donkey dick. You're most definitely entitled to your opinion, but I have faith that the 2013 Sox offense will be at least as good, if not better than 2012 Sox offense.
  21. QUOTE (staxx @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) DUNN almost killed our 32 mil dollar man Can you imagine the venom for Dunn around here if Sale comes up with a pulled muscle or something tomorrow?
  22. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 06:58 AM) yeah was at that game laughed my head off. was a muggy day. Beckham hit a home run and the fireworks smoke LINGERED in the air. I remember telling my brother what a great time for a fly ball. and BANG DeAza hits a pop up that landed by the pitchers mound . NOBODY saw it anywhere because of all of the smoke and he got a double. Sometimes ya gotta love home field advantage. What a great basbeall moment. Will probaly never see that again. Actually, it happens every so often. Just a couple of years ago or so the Sox had hit back to back homeruns and the next hitter hit a fly ball that was lost in the smoke. I remember instances of pop ups being lost in the fog as well.
  23. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) Wow, love this! Locked up on the cheap for 7 years if you include this season. I realize there is a fear of injury at some point, but at least it isn't like Peavy's last contract where we had him for 2-3 years paying him almost $20 mil per season while not contributing a whole lot. Love it too. I interpret this as the White Sox being pro-active, almost expecting T. J. surgery at some point. In that case, have Sale in control for seven years, if you only get 5 good years out of him its still a bargain. Can you imagine what the price of an ace is going to be in 2020?
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 08:24 AM) Well, it's going to be a dog fight between them and Boston anyways. We'll, I guess if things don't go well with the White Sox this year at least that will be a fun race to watch.
