Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
balfanman replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It would not bother me if the Sox traded for good pitching prospects. You can never, ever have too much pitching. I realize they need to fix the offense, but they will have some money to spend in the offseason on a bat or 2, along with other trade possibilities for bats. If they can improve the offense to even league average, and still have good pitching, they will be in the hunt next season. If they have several good pitching prospects in the minors due to their trading in the next month, then they will have plenty of chips to work with to be big time buyers at this time next season. In short, you can't really look at what your trading for right now in the light of specific club needs for next year. In many cases you are just acquiring ammunition to put yourself in a better position to acquire players to cover next seasons needs. IMO. -
How about a Keppinger and Thornton trade to the Yankees . That should bring back a little something.

So what's the significance of the previous NBA thread ending on page 666? Are we going to draft Lucifer?

You = Hahn. Do you heavily shop Reed, Yes or No?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) When Chisoxfn decides it should go up I guess if we included talk of who should be traded in Tradewinds, Palehose Talk would be pretty barren. -

When is the Trade Winds section going to open up? We're obviously out of it this year, can we have a section for rumors and thoughts of who should be traded? -
This should be the title of every game thread for the rest of the year. Not in green for a reason.

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) Chicago White Sox @whitesox 1m Prior to tonight’s game, the Sox placed Conor Gillaspie on the Paternity Leave List & recalled 3rd baseman Brent Morel from @KnightsBaseball I didn't even know that Gillaspie was pregnant?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) Reed's value right now will likely never be higher. I still have yet to see any convincing argument against trading him. We're going to be bad the rest of this year, probably at least not very good next year, and we can't reasonably hope to contend seriously until at least 2015. So you hold onto Reed for what? This is where I believe your premise for trading Reed and a few others is flawed, IMO. I do not believe that Rick Hahn and the Sox front office believes for one minute that the team won't be competitive next season, and I tend to agree with them. You have the pitching, trade anyone not in next years plan, maybe.....maybe one or two more if.....IF you get an offer you can't refuse, and pick up a bat or two in trade or however in the offseason, and go again. That said the guy I really want gone is DeAza, I loved him last year, but this year he is a completely different ballplayer, and that's not a good thing. I think that they will trade Crain, Thornton, Lindstrom and maybe 1 starter. They might part with 1 position player, depending on who, if any of them, they now think they can better replace next year (Viciedo?, Konerko?, DeAza). They could hold off on the starter and position players until the offseason if they don't get a good offer. I just think, they think, they have the pitching and will try to revamp the offense for next year. -
How about Bryce Harper, what was his progression?

2012-2013 Official NHL thread

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) Crazy to think about how different the status of a guy like Coach Q is after this compared to, say, a loss when we were down 3-1 to Detroit. I still remember how bad we were when I started watching hockey with my dad...we sucked, the home games weren't on TV, but then there was a glimmer of hope. A kid named Toews, a kid named Kane, and very soon a collection of budding stars made us relevant again. It felt so special then that I can't believe it took us so long to win again, but then again it seems impossible to win. /ramble /love these guys This is true, however, I would argue that the biggest reason for the Blackhawks new found relevance is the death of Bill Wirtz. Hated that guy. I have always felt that Chicago should of been dubbed "hockeytown" many years ago instead of Detroit, but Bill Wirtz singlehandedly prevented that. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) I can't find an article right now, but if I remember correctly the Hawks parade dwarfed the Sox parade in the amount of people that showed up. I suppose it did if you want to believe the Cub biased media.

6/21 Sox (Hector Santiago) v. Royals (Cy Guthrie)

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 06:41 PM) Been a good week in the push for Carlos Rodin or Tyler Beede. Let's keep it going. We currently are in line for the 6th pick. But we can get to third. It will be tough. But it's definitely doable. DOABLE! Whatever happened to Steff anyway? -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) Worst record in the league doesn't do anything unless it's worst record in the majors. 8 games behind the Marlins and they simply aren't going to, errr, win that battle. You can just bet that after they "sell off" some of their pieces the Sox will play just well enough to lift themselves out of a top draft slot and wind up drafting around 12 - 15 -
You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?
balfanman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3888104.story Mr. Hahn doesn't seem totally convinced yet, although what else is he going to say publically at this point. It does seem that most of us here at Soxtalk have resigned ourselves to this fate however, as the debate about whether to be sellers or buyers has seemingly morphed into who we sell, for what and when. -
I think that we kind of agree Caulfield. That 2005 team had great balance. I agree you need power at USCF, but don't discount the role that small ball played on that team, even throughout the playoffs.

Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 07:33 AM) Carter, Morse, Gio, Hudson, Sweeney (lol), Chris Young, McCarthy, that's about the extent of it. Okay.......... -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) 2-3 with a double and a run I hope that after "the big sell off" the Sox can bring up Phegley to see what they have. Maybe Phegley & Flowers can both see time at catcher, dh and 1st base (Flowers anyway, can Phegley play there)?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 10:27 PM) Any hitter who has the projected ability to hit 20+ homers has to be the priority right now. Hawkins, Thompson, Barnum, you simply can't win with a "small ball" approach at USCF. The likes of Walker and Sanchez are complementary players, although Sanchez has a decent shot to be a starter in the middle infield. I disagree with this statement. Example 1, 2005 - While that was still a power laden team with home runs responsible for most of that offense, small ball had a large part in building leads. That team had a long streak (30 something I think) of having the lead in games to start the season. I would say that small ball kind of "jump started" that offense and won several games late. While I agree that you don't want a team that can only play small ball, small ball plays a large part in having a good offense, IMHO. That being said, you need good small ball players, not the collection of garbage that the Sox have now. Podsednik, Igutchi, Harris, Ozuna, etc. >>>> DeAza, Ramirez, Beckham, Keppinger, etc.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 02:14 AM) Venture should be brought back, its a shame that both him and Hahn have to pay the price for Kenny Williams and his ill advised moves, especially the trading away of top prospects. Welcome to the board; however, just who are these top prospects that you speak of that were traded away and how many of them have exactly lit the world on fire after their departure? -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) He's not as easy a sign as others around him of course, but... he had a weak showing in the Cape Code League, and followed that with a weak spring, which resulted in his draft stock falling. Toolsy yes, but still had enough struggles that no one wanted to use a Top 10 pick on him. This isn't a high school kid either, he's got one year of eligibility left. I don't have any specific knowledge, just a general impression (a guess really) that slightly over slot would get it done. I could of course be wrong. Doesn't the Cape Cod league use wooden bats instead of aluminum? seems to me I've heard that several prospects have weak showings there due to that. Or it could be that I'm old and senile and simply delusional in my "misremembrance" of things (not teal for a good reason).

Okay all of you minor league experts (I know we have several on this board); now that it's almost certain that Hahn will be dealing over the next 4 - 6 weeks, who do you want? Of the teams that are in contention and looking to acquire help for the stretch run, what prospects do they have that you would love Mr. Hahn to trade for? I know that we'll probably get a few impossibe suggestions, but I would love to hear some realistic thoughts.

You know the major league team really stinks when I view Palehose talk as a last resort. 1st stop - Futuresox board!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 08:00 AM) Doug Sisson is coordinator for baserunning, but he deals mostly with the minor leaguers. Maybe they need to "promote" him to the majors for while! What's Jose Valentin, Hawks best baserunner ever, doing these days? Let's bring him in to work with these guys.
