QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:36 AM) The counterpoint of course is that the 2005 team was a power laden team that scored a ton of runs using the HR. Hit 200 HR on the regular season, was one of the top power teams in the league. And then the 2006 team which won 90 games was even more powerful thanks to that beast in the DH slot. Shhhhhhh....you wern't supposed to notice that, it destroys a perfectly good argument. Ozzieball reigned supreme!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 07:08 AM) Which is how it should work. A manager and GM should be on the same page. Not fighting for headlines. Just to play devils advocate, and I'm not a Guillen fan, especially with the stuff that he pulled in his last few years here, but is this not what K.W. did in Ozzies first season or 2 here? Was not most of the moves between 2004 - 2005 along the lines of transforming from a power laden, slow team to the more versatile, faster, pitching / defense type team which we won a World Series with. That was what Ozzie wanted, albeit he didn't get the speedy, slap hitting leadoff hitter (Pierre) that he wanted until later. We all know how this turned out in later years and I hope that K.W. & R.V. are truly on the same page here. IF, and I mean (wish) IF we win another World Series this year or next, let's hope that another ego battle does not ensue as to who gets most of the credit for it, and we're back infighting with different agendas again. Silly me, I know that K.W.'s ego would never allow that to happen.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 05:10 PM) If the Sox can't compete financially with the Cubs for prospects, maybe it's time they consider moving out of Chicago to a city/sate that will support them and allow them to compete with the big market teams. If this craphole corrupt city would rather support the last place, over 100 years without a championship Cubs over the Sox, why do they even want to stick around. Move somewhere else and pick up a new fanbase. I'll still be a Sox fan and if they move somewhere nice maybe I'll even move there when I can retire. And this magical location that we're going to move to is where?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) And I will ban the first person to post a "Will Ohman Appreciation thread". Oh man, .......am I tempted. But I can't I....I......I....I lub you guys. Well, except maybe Greg.

QUOTE (thomas_35 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) i think playing outdoors is a HUGE part of it. as cold as it is here in April, i'm sure it's worse up in MIN. bats don't like cold weather. Does anyone know how Youkilis generally does against the Yankees? Was he known as a Yankee Killer for the Red Sox?

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) voting ends tomorrow Oh..........Nevermind.

QUOTE (thomas_35 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) it's not even July yet...KC will fold under the oppressive Missouri sun next month. too hot to play baseball there, even at night!!! True, but realistically you could say that about any team in the division. Remember, the Royals get to play us a whole bunch more yet this season. We never seem to play well against them.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) Meanwhile, ever so quietly, Greg's Royals are looming only 5 games out of first still and beating the Rays again. I know most people won't take them seriously until they're at least .500, however. Not me, I actually like the Royals, have from the start. I believe that other than that horrible streak at the beginning of the year they have a better record than anyone one else in this division. I think that even with their current pitching staff they could wind up in second place (behind the beloved of course) in the division. If they can somehow land some pitching by the deadline thay have as good a shot as anybody. Greg may be a nut job, but I do agree with him on this.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) Rehab assignment. Danks at .412. Rios at .300 and 832 OPS. Alexei with more a bit respectable 575 OPS. Leadoff A-Rod double. Heart of the Yankees' order coming up. Cano only a .164 hitter with RISP this year. Hawk would be surprised by that stat. I thought that Fukudome was DFA'd

Maybe Boston knew this was coming and that's why they released him.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) 6 outs on 12 pitches for Blackburn, White Sox baseball. As usual, we make a bad pitcher look great.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) Or Phil Rogers. The Blue Jays had yet another starter get hurt last night, with Henderson Alvarez leaving the game against Boston due to a sore elbow. He’s expected to avoid the DL, but the Jays already have three of his rotationmates there: Brandon Morrow (oblique), Kyle Drabek (elbow) and Drew Hutchinson (elbow). Now comes word today that Nestor Molina, the top prospect the Jays parted with to get Sergio Santos (also injured) from the White Sox over the winter, has been placed on the DL at Double-A Birmingham with an elbow injury. His status is uncertain, but it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he misses a big chunk of the season. FOXSports.com’s Jon Paul Morosi recently wrote a glowing article on the Blue Jays’ young arms, taking shots at Oakland’s 2002 “Moneyball draft” in the process. The Jays now employ more area scouts than any team in the league, and it might well be helping them identify talent other clubs have missed. nbchardballsports.com So is this implying that the Blue Jays are doing something to cause all of these injuries? The implication, or maybe it's my inferring, are not quite clear to me.

I believe that I read somewhere that this is the last week for All Star voting. While it is a good feather in a players cap to make it, I, for one, have been on record of not really caring if our players make it or not. I would rather have them getting the rest, especially the pitchers. Just wondering however, does anyone think that the White Sox playing in New York this weekend will have any bearing on the voting, one way or the other? Say one of our guys who is close has a terrifically good (think Aaron Rowand) series or horrifically bad series would the bump in exposure and the large voting fan base decide things one way or another?

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 11:35 AM) Sox had a chance to put the knock out blow on Blackburn and did not. Does this really surprise you?

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 11:27 AM) For those of us stuck at work would someone mind doing a little play by play? Thank you all!

Where's Jason been since he scolded Greg anyway? Checked into a mental ward?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 08:05 AM) Give Dunn the day off against Sabathia this weekend. Nick Blackburn is absolutely terrible, maybe he can help Dunn get on a hot streak again. Is this one of those games that, as Hawk says, "the boys will be fighting to get to the bat rack first"? Oh my, this means we're about to get shut out again.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 07:20 AM) I always think that helps the Sox, since most of their hitters swing at everything anyway. Especially love to see a huge strike zone against the Red Sox and Yankees, since their hitters all seem to want to see 6+ pitches every time up to the plate. Could we pay last nights home plate ump to be the home plate ump for every game of the Yankee series? Seriously though, if the above qoute by HH is true, would this not be a better indicator of series success than most? Does anyone have any idea of who the umpires are for the Yankee series and if they have big or small strike zones? Of course the Yankees probably have an influence on which crew gets assigned to their games (not in teal).

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) If he's the owner, then it's pretty crazy to think my defense of Ozzie would elicit such a venomous response. All I'm doing is stating my defense of Ozzie. It's not like I'm starting threads saying Ozzie this and Ozzie that and I wish Ozzie was still here. You guys think Ozzie quit on the team whatever that means. I say the Sox didn't want him and he sped up the process by negotiating the final week or whenever. If the Sox wanted Ozzie Guillen and made it known they wanted Oz through thick and thin, he'd still be here. Also, who cares if he's playing on the internet before games instead of scouring advanced stats. What did Earl Weaver do back in the day w/no internet or Tommy Lasorda? They played grabass with the media I'm sure or played cards. Who cares? A manager brings the intangibles and semblance of strategy DURING games. . I'm usually all for free speech, believe that everyone has a right to their own opinions, should not be lashed out at for expressing them, and try my best never to spew venom against anyone. That being said, Greg, especially after posts like this, Chisoxfn is absolutely correct !

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:27 PM) I actually think Conte is legit. He'd have to be absolutely bonkers to give athletes steroids after all the scrutiny that was and is still on him. I've spoken to him on twitter and while he is wildly realistic in terms of his industry knowledge and beliefs about the prevalence of doping (the MLB testing policy is VERY easy to get around if you know what you're doing) I correspond with the real brains behind the BALCO drugs, Patrick Arnold, all the time. He is the chemist that created "the Cream" and "the Clear" and later went to prison for it (despite their apparent legal status at the time). He stays far from the juice now but is a legitimate and successful supplement salesman and routinely introduces safe, effective ingredients to the market. Fun fact is that he works out of Seymour, IL too and always did. The mistake Conte is making is associating with professionals who have the incentive to cheat. He remains a top consultant for many anti-doping agencies. Interesting, the "story behind the story". -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 04:17 PM) No, Zach Stewart and a season of Edwin Jackson and dumping Teahen's entire contract. I'll never understand how some people can think that "what you have to show" for a trade is only who remains on the roster years later. You're paying for performance seasons, you're not actually owning players' lives. I like this analogy. I've never thought of it that way before.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) I believe not only is he 9 for his last 9 against Floyd, but Mauer has reached based against Gavin in 15 consecutive PAs. Oh my. Okay, I'll play the optimist. This just means that Mauer is now due for several O-fers against Gavin
