  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) I think DJ and Farmio hit it on the head--these guys look tired in Detroit. Am I the only one who has a problem with this. on sooooo many levels. They're highly paid professionals, vying for a division championship, playing their direct competitors, and they can't get up for those games. I'm not sure what this says about their make up. They've gone 3 - 3 in their last six, and why the totals come out the same, I think that I would of preferred it if they would have won a game or 2 in Detroit and lost a game or 2 against the Twins. They should of let their exhaustion show against the Twins, not the Tigers.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) This is a great call. Expect Kenny to bring in someone that no one is talking about. Jamie Navarro !
  3. QUOTE (keninem @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 11:04 AM) From a few years ago...during a day game. Camera pans over to a sleeping baby with a pacifier in his mouth. Hawk - "I love num-nums." I had to rewind it a few times. My wife and I still laugh about it. I have never heard this but in my book this wins hands down.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) Defense has been a huge key to the Sox winning this year. Dumping Beckham isn't a good move. Agree 100%. I'm frustrated with Beckham too, but the old adage is true, "defense usually wins in the long run".
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) Well, if the Marlins throw in any money for those last two years, they'd save money overall. Unless KW can get Buehrle for like, the most insignificant prospect ever, and thinks it puts them over the top this year. Then maybe you consider that contract (overall, it's not as bad, just those last two years look terrible). I tend to agree here as well, but I actually predicted before the season started that the Sox would acquire Buehrle this season after the Marlins faltered (I know, you're very happy for me). One thing I think you have to think about is the contracts pitchers are getting these days. 2 years from now 18 - 19 million a season might be the going rate for an above average innings eater like Buehrle. Buehrles' pitching style lends itself to him being injury free and effective for several years yet
  6. My gosh, Flowers is NOT terrible. Give the kid a chance. You can't hit like Miguel Cabrera if you're sitting on the bench at least 6 times a week.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) In his first 3 games he had 2 HRs & 4 RBI. In the 27 games since then, 0 HRs, 3 RBI Wasn't that against us?
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) LOL @ the idea that this site is anything like WSI. I'll call that bluff every day. They are far, far more stringent than we ever are. Really, I left WSI years ago because I replied to a post that I agreed with by saying "Amen brotha, preach it". I recieved a warning for being a religious zealot.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 05:43 PM) Get over it. Seriously. It isn't just Rios. Guillen led a complete failure of a team last year, which means he failed. It is his job to motivate the players he has on his team. If he doesn't like it, he is in the wrong job. Fastforward to this year. Those same failures are having career years. Peavy, Rios, Dunn, etc. Guillen being too busy fighting with Kenny and worrying about his extension instead of his failure of a team is pisses me off. Could Ozzie forget about money and ego for a while and actually earn his paycheck? He sure as hell didn't earn his check last year, why not the indictment of him? This. I agree 100%
  10. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) Jon Morosi tweets that the White Sox are looking at Clayton Richards, the worst fielding pitcher I ever saw. You obviously have forgotten about Britt Burns, you know, the one Hawk said was going to get killed out there.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) I'm trying to think of who (prospects-wise) I wouldn't want to give up for Greinke, assuming there's a good chance to extend him. I think it's nobody. As a rental, that's tougher. Kenny Williams Jr. !...................oh, nevermind
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) He's improved in that he covers the gaps well, but far too many balls drop in front of him. I guess maybe that's what I'm getting at. Does playing so deep help him cover the gaps better and if so, is that worth all of the balls that DeAza lets fall in front of him? From listening to Derrin Jackson, he seems to be of the opinion that DeAza should move in at least 3 - 4 steps. He should still be able to cover the gaps and go back on balls just as effectively, while taking away some of the bloops that fall in front of him.
  13. Just wanted to get some opinions on DeAza as a defensive centerfielder. Personally, I think that he has been okay overall, nothing special. I am one who listens to most every game on radio and Derrin Jackson, who was a pretty good defensive outfielder himself, has made the comment that DeAza plays way to deep because he is afraid that he can't go back to catch a ball very well. From listening, this has cost the Sox a few runs this season, including Fridays 14 inning marathon. I believe it was the 8th inning of that game, when the Royals tied it. Jackson claimed that DeAza should of easily caught the ball that led to the tying run, but he was playing way to deep and it dropped in front of him. In that case, the game should of been over after 9, saving 5 innings of wear and tear on our bullpen. What say ye?
  14. I predict that Dempster will be traded somewhere soon for something that would not exactly be considered a kings ransom. At that point, Soxtalk will explode with posters wondering why we didn't get him if that's all it took.
  15. QUOTE (floridafan @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 07:13 AM) Eric had a great night last night in a tough 6-5 loss to Greenville. He went 4-4 with a Double, a Walk and 2 runs scored. Eris currently is 3rd in the League in BA. Does Eric have a favorite position or does he like to move around?
  16. QUOTE (Donaldo @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 06:44 PM) A few more interesting stats of Dan's... He's hitting.. .342 with bases empty .252 with runners on base .224 with RISP Not very clutch this season, is he? I'm glad to see he's playing again, he has no statistics between 6/30 and 7/7. I saw him play a few times for Purdue, and I was thrilled when the Sox drafted him. I'd love to see him make it to the Major Leagues. Thank you for the information. As a Purdue alum, I'd love to see Dan make it too.
  17. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) There is literally no chance this happens. The MLB will make sure that both the Yankees and Red Sox can get in every year. And if I'm the Blue Jays or Orioles I hate the set up now, and want nothing to do with that one.
  18. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) i have split feelings here. I dont necessarily like when guys say that they are happy not playing. While neither Dunn nor Peavy made the team because of fan votes, (maybe Peavy to some extent) it does irritate me that as fans we are asked to vote early and often and spend hours doing so. Just to have guys make a team and then ask not to play. Whats the point? I don't know whether it's correct or not, but I chose to believe that they care more about the White Sox and winning the division than a meaningless (home field advantage, sure) game.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) And SSS pretty well demolishes the "not robin" theory. http://www.southsidesox.com/2012/7/11/3150...ficiency-expert Great article. Every day that goes by, even though I don't consider myself an Ozzie hater, it is proven how bad a manger he really is. You have to keep tabs on the actual (baseball) activities of your players and coaches, not just assume it's being done. Even though he gave lip service to fundamentals, he obviously never cared enough to actually practice it, or enforce it. Yes, I know, Greg.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) I listened for 5 minutes the other day on my way to Jewel, and within those 5 minutes he managed to say "You know I was talking to Walker in the offseason, and he said to me 'You wouldnt believe some of the stuff going on in the clubhouse last season, it was unbelievable and unprofessional'" And yet Cowley twisted all of the comments in the article to be K.W's fault rather than the guy who is, you know, in charge of the clubhouse. I'm not saying that K.W. is totally innocent in all of this, but I doubt very much if it was all, or very much of even, his fault.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 10:24 AM) How would anyone have any idea about him? He was a complete unknown because he was only with the org since November Couldn't you say the same thing about the prospects that we acquired in trades during the offseason that were ranked fairly high?
  22. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) The whole 15-15, full season inter-league play thing is just stupid. Go all in and "dissolve" the league differences, or re-segregate the leagues again. Don't go half way. I agree with this.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 08:03 AM) Even today, I will still call the Tigers the favorites in the AL Central. Maybe I am alone on that, maybe not, but they are a way more talented team than the White Sox. Not sure that I totally agree with this. Detroit may have more offensive talent, and I'm not even sure of that, but no where near the defensive talent. Pitching I would place the talent level about even right now, but if Danks or Humber come back strong I would give the advantage to the Sox. The wild card in all of this is what, if anything, each team acquires and how the acquired players perform.
  24. QUOTE (everafan @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 07:48 AM) Funny that he addressed it in today's column. Very lazy here. He basically gets Paul Konerko to say that it wasn't as simple as a manager change, it was a change in organizational philosophy. Of course, Paulie isn't going to throw Ozzie under the bus. But even a 5th grader can interpret the meaning - this organizational change was not possible with Ozzie at the helm. One of Ozzie's favorite quotes was "The major league is not an instructional league" and "I can't teach these guys anyting". So there is no way that Ozzie would have gone along with the the reinforcement of baseball fundamentals. Ozzie is managing a talented team this year (as he did last year) and it is like ground hog day. All the drama, egomania, poor results, throwing players under ther bus, outrageous proclamations, etc. Ozzie was a great manager early in his career but he is a shell of that guy today. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/13706979-41...n-williams.html And as usual, Cowley couldn't keep himself from throwing K.W. under the bus, as if it was K.W's fault that fundamentals were not taught, or players held accountable for executing them.
