QUOTE (chw42 @ May 29, 2012 -> 12:05 PM) They're still bad and I don't see the Sox finishing below them somehow. I don't think the Sox will finish behind them either, but I don't think that they are that bad. They gave the Sox fits when they were bad. It wouldn't suprise me at all if the Royals take the seasons series from the Sox.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 29, 2012 -> 11:40 AM) Ask him how they will finish 4th. He does realize that Kansas City and Minnesota are awful right? Please tell him to do some research before he speaks again. I believe that Kansas City is well above 500 other than their 12 game losing streak, not exactly gimmes. Not saying, I'm just saying.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ May 24, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) Nice pickup from KW. Thank you SD for releasing him and paying him. They were just rewarding us for giving them the great opportunity to have TCQ on their disabled list.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:59 AM) I usually do, but every once in a while there is a moment where I swear I can hear Farmer counting so that he doesn't kill DJ.I know what you mean. I think that it's because D. J. has the personality that likes to put people on the spot, in a comical sort of way and Farmer doesn't know how to respond, whether he wants to go there or not.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) I think they are friends. They are both very nice people. That's good to know, they seem like they are. Wasn't Farmer mad at someone else in the booth several years ago, so much so that he built some kind of barricade so that he didn't have to look at them? Maybe it was Harrelson, that would explain a lot of things. I get the feeling that Harrelson is actually a real asshat, but I shouldn't suggest that because I don't know him personally.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) I think either Farmer and DJ absolutely hate each other, or they are the best friends in the world. I can't decide which. There are just way too many uncomfortable moments. I agree with this. I want to think that it must be the latter, but sometimes I'm not so sure. As someone with a wierd sense of humor though, I kinda like em.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 08:33 AM) Can someone recommend broadcasters that are better than Hawk that I can listen to for some comparison? I'll take this with an open mind and see what I think of others. Dave Wills

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2012 -> 01:09 AM) Apparently, there's good hustle and "bad hustle" in Minnesota. Good=Piranhas, Denny Hocking, Henry Blanco, Jason Bartlett, Nick Punto diving into 1B needlessly, Lew Ford, Matthew LeCroy, Cuddyer, Kubel, Koskie, Mientkiewicz, Christian Guzman, Jason Tyner, etc. Bad=Delmon Young, Alexi Casilla, Orlando Hudson, Nishioka, Valencia, Pierzynski added for correctness.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 22, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) Let me break it down greg. The fact that Oswaldo José Guillén Barrios had another job offer mid-season, while he was managing a team, means one thing. He was talking to another team during the season, which is kind of against MLB rules (that's why we got Marinez and Martinez). He used that to try and extort more money out of Reinsdorf, despite failing with massively talented rosters that were often picked to win the division. Some were even built to his exact specifications (rotating DH bulls***). Knowing he wasn't getting a raise, Ozzie wanted to leave, so he upstaged Mark Buehrle's final start as a White Sox pitcher by asking for a release. To get released with a year left on his contract, that means he had to knowingly tank the team. Ozzie Guillen knowingly made bad move after bad move to destroy the White Sox record last year so he could go get more money in South Beach because he is a greedy son of a b**** who's ego enabled him to let his children destroy this franchises infrastructure. If the GM had just been allowed to do his job and the manager just done his without letting his ego get in the way, the White Sox would have a few more AL Central titles under they're belt right now. And Coop is the one with ego problems? Get that bulls*** out of here. I agree with post 100%

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2012 -> 12:00 PM) If this team plays .500 or better ball, this is a good thing. It's not happening unless the struggling part of the pitching rotation steps up, the young guys in the bullpen step up, and some out of Beckham/Morel/Viciedo/Lillibrige/Flowers step up. And they found their leadoff hitter for the next few years in De Aza, and Dunn and Rios continued playing pretty well. Meaning, if this team plays well against NL teams and pushes up to .500, they've actually set themselves up surprisingly well for next year, because Peavy and AJ's contracts clear, saving $28 million ($5 million or so of that spent on the Danks extension already). That means the Sox could be legit players in FA for someone really big, like Hamels or Hell even Hamilton, as long as it starts with an H, and that could well push this team to be a legit player next year. Hunter!

QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) Thought today would have been a good day to get Lillibridge in the game somewhere, and I'm surprised Flowers isn't playing today with the quick turnaround. What has happened to Flowers anyway? Has he been so bad as to not get any playing time?

Interleague play - DH - Viciedo/Dunn - Bud Selig

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2012 -> 06:46 AM) You don't want Dunn trying to play RF at Wrigley. I tend to be a defense has priority over offense type person. In this case however, especially the way our offense struggles to score runs, I think that I would take a +offense, -defense Dunn over a +defense, -offense Rios. This opinion might be somewhat dependant on which way and how hard the wind is blowing at Wrigley.

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 17, 2012 -> 05:16 AM) To reiterate my previous post, in this thread: The idea of giving Dan Johnson some playing time at 3B is still very intriguing to me. He's played the "hot corner" on a few ocasions, and if he wouldn't be too much of a liability, you'd have to think that he would be a huge offensive upgrade from Morel. Here are his numbers vs. RHP so far: 87 AB 9 2B 1 3B 8 HR 29 RBI .513 OBP .759 SLG For those who like to argue that Charlotte is a hitter's park, please note that his numbers are better on the road. Having another left handed power bat in the lineup would help, as well. Alternating Dunn, Konerko, Johnson, Viciedo and A. J. would be decent vs. RHP. Let Lillibridge take the at bats vs LHP, and be the late inning defensive replacement at 3B I understand that his numbers would not translate to the Big Leagues, but when a guy is dominating AAA like he is, don't you have to bring him up and see what he can do, especially, given the complete lack of production from the lower third of the order? At this point, I'd have to agree that he might be our best option. I had high hopes for Morel, and he might still be good someday, but not at this time. Morel needs to go down and find his stroke again.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) The worst thing we could do is have him make 2-3 errors at 3B and mess up his growing confidence at the plate right now. Personnaly, I would prefer that Viciedo stays in left, Konerko at first, Dunn in right for all three games. Let Mr. Rios have a seat on the bench.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) It was their hitting coach unless someone else got fired. Sorry, just noticed that I typed pitching instead of hitting. Usually when you let go of a hitting coach that teams offense catches fire for a couple weeks or so.
-
Great, the Angels just fired their pitching coach. With the usual offensive spark for a few games that normally happens afterwards, we may be blown out for a couple of games.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:38 AM) I consider a loyal fanbase one that sticks with a team when it is bad, not blindly believes they are always a good team. That's the difference. Just taking time out of our day to post about this team on a message board all the time proves our loyalties. I agree with this.

WS CAR .316 34 133 22 42 5 0 7 23 68 18 29 2 0 .397 .511 .909 Minors .316 34 133 22 42 5 0 7 23 68 18 29 2 0 .397 .511 .909 Dan Black seems to be having a pretty good season so far as he is in the top 5 for most offensive categories for all Sox minor leaguers. he has tailed off a little from a fairly hot start. He doesn't appear to be playing everyday for some reason, I'm not sure why, maybe he has someone else ahead of him on the prospect radar. Anyone have any insight on this?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 12, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) Beckham has a lot of talent. People forget his second half of 2010 before he broke his hand. He had an .875 OPS. There's no reason he shouldn't put up an .800 + OPS every year. Hopefully its coming to him now. He was starting to look much better before he got some hits, and now the hits are coming. I still think he's a stud of a player. I think that this here may be the key. Doesn't it usually take a player 1 1/2 to 2 seasons to recover fully from a broken hand and come back to form? Maybe I'm confusing this with a broken wrist. Paging Dr. PTAC!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 10, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) If KC and the Sox were both contenders, I'd imagine the dealing between the 2 teams wouldn't happen as much. Exactly! This whole Peavy deal with Detroit is based on Detroit being in contention, while the Sox fall out. If the Sox fall out of contention this season, it is probable that they will be out of contention for a few more seasons as well. Even if the Tigers sent over a mediocre prospect that miraculously became a perrenial all star, don't you think that the Tigers would still consider it a worthy risk if they have a strong shot at a World Series ring this year and next?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 10, 2012 -> 10:48 AM) Unless they are desperate, teams generally don't deal with other teams in their division very often, unless is a cellar dwellar dumping salary. The facts are its been 23 years since they dealt with Detroit and 26 years since they dealt with Minnesota, expecting that to change wouldn't make sense. I realize that you don't generally deal with teams in your own division for fear that if the trade goes bad on your end, you pay for it by facing that team more often the next few seasons. But that shouldn't mean that you never deal with them. In this case, and I know were a long way from this happening because the Sox have to fall out of contention (and who knows how games out that even is in Kenny Williams mind), Detroit has to stay in, Peavy has to stay good, etc.; why not Detroit? It's not like Peavy would "haunt" the Sox for more than 1 more season unless Detroit resigned / extended him, which they could do anyway if Peavy became a free agent. If the Tigers take on a good portion of the remaining money it frees up cash for the Sox and regardless, the Sox are probably not going to get a top end prospect back from the Tigers who is going to "haunt" them for a few seasons.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2012 -> 10:25 AM) And for perspectives sake, the only team that it has been longer since the Sox have dealt with is the Twins. (1986) So I'm not quite sure what is being implied here (again, not anyone in particular). Is it being said that we don't, for whatever reason deal with the Tigers....or Twins? 20 + years ago is a long time, different ownership, management, players, philosophies, etc. I would think that if a deal benefits both teams, who cares who it is your dealing with. Isn't the ultimate goal to help your own ballclub?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) What was the last deal the Sox did with Detroit? Kenny Williams? Because they're due? Isn't that like asking when was the last time a power hitter hit a home run?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 10, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) I am struggling to find a realistic team. The Orioles will have collapsed long before the trade deadline. Already scratched NYY and Red Sox. Forget anyone in the AL Central, though maybe the Royals if they could get hot quickly and get back into things. Phillies already have a deep rotation, as does Texas, and the Nationals. Tampa has no money, ever. Angels have been awful and spent a ton in the off season already, plus their numbers are down. Not Miami after the dealings between Ozzie and Jake. Maybe the Dodgers, but they would be more likely to chase a bat, versus a pitcher. Have the Mets money problems been solved? If not scratch them. Maybe the Giants, but again, they will be looking for offense first. Dbacks and Jays could be there, but Peavy doesn't seem like their sort of move. I won't even acknowledge about 10 teams as real possiblities (Houston, SD, Cubs, Twins, Seattle, Oakland, Pittsburgh, Colorado) I think maybe I asked this yesterday in another thread, but why not Detroit? Doesn't Iltch want to win at all costs? The Sox would not be concerned about dealing in the division because Peavy's contract is not long term. I could very easily see the Tigers wanting Peavy for a chance to combine with Verlander for a Worls Series Title.
