  1. Rex, as Blackie always says, seperate the wheat from the chafe.
  2. BULL/REX, is Stumm going to start or relieve at Win-Sal. I hate to think he couldn't stick in AA, surprised about An too, he pitched well at AA last year.
  3. Rex, Rob Sasser was taken by Braves in 10th round of 1993 draft. Had one year at Toledo in AAA where he hit 25 dingers. He is 29 years old. .341 lifetime OBP in minors with lifetime .407 SLG in over 3500 ABs, 1 lifetime AB for Tejas in AL.
  4. JimH, go to www.baseballamerica.com and click on the bookstore and order it. Will get it much faster than waiting for Borders I would think. Just got mine in mail this week. Do not think you need password to order a book, but not sure.
  5. Not sure how you can be comfortable with bullpen. Koch has to show he can comeback, Mr Zero is a soft tosser, and Politte has a lot to prove.
  6. Johan is fine, he is NOT injury prone, he missed some time in minor leagues, but has been very healthy for past 3-4 years at least I would guess.
  7. That Greg Miller had some nice stats, he was traded with the SS named Everett, to the Astros a few years back for Carl Everett. Worth seeing if he comes back from injury, nothing to lose. He and Duncan are only 2 with a prayer of ever helping us.
  8. I would go with Nachreiner, Stumm and Mike Myers.
  9. Person was drafted in 24th round by Indians in 1989, traded to White Sox in 1991 for a LHP named Grady Hall (I think he was from Northwestern). He had a good year for us in Sarasota of FSL (he was on staff with Jason Bere, and when Bere was promoted, James Baldwin came up from MWL). Had a great staff there that season. He was then selected in the expansion draft by the Marlins.
  10. I am hoping Anderson is a better athlete than Borchard, I was not impressed with Borchard as an athlete, he is just big. Just cause he played QB does not mean he was an athlete, he is somewhat stiff and not all that fast or quick.
  11. I am amazed Diaz made anyone's top 10. Also remember, BA normally tries not to include Rookie league players, in most cases, unless a team is really weak in upper leagues.
  12. Got my new Baseball America yesterday, Sager was listed as being released from the Sox system. Too bad, I wanted him to succeed. Not sure he even won a game for us in the 2-3 years he was in our system. We also resigned a couple of Minor league FAs. Nate Murphy, Jon Acevas, and I thought one other, but name escapes me now.
  13. What does height have to do with throwing hard, I hope you were kidding.
  14. One more item, if we had Kenny Rogers or Schoeneweis as our 5th starter last year, we would have won the division. We got 4 wins in about 25 starts from our 5th starter last year (thanks to Stewart and Wright). That is unacceptable. 10 wins would have improved us 6 games.
  15. Last year everyone thought Danny Wright would easily be a good 4th starter, he had just come off a 14 win season.
  16. I think our bullpen is a very weak spot. We need a closer (I prefer Marte to be setup for 7th and 8th innings) and a setup man from the right side. So I would say we need 1 good starter and 1 closer and 1 setup man. I would prefer Schoeneweis to stay in pen as our 3rd LH out there, tho he might be a good swing man for 5th spot. We need to replace Gordon and Sullivan, and I do not think Koch will help.
  17. Denny McLain was not released. We had to protect 2 out of 3 bonus babies (that is what they called them back then) and the 3 to choose from were McLain, Dave DeBusschere and Bruce Howard. Sox left McLain unprotected out of the 3 and Tigers grabbed him up. DeBusschere left baseball the next year to play in the NBA, Howard gave the Sox a couple of decent seasons, but never panned out.
  18. The picks between rounds are determined by the ranking of the FAs signed. Foulke and Tejada were ranked higher than Colon.
  19. Good call Brando, I would like to unload Konerko and get Simon. I might also be interested in either Frank Menechino (good OBP guy) or Damian Jackson for 2B.
  20. I think CLee is worth it, he and Maggs are clearly our two best players, Maggs is making too much. I was so hoping Maggs and prospect for Nomar and Williamson and Kim, then move Nomar to LA for Jackson, Mota and Izturis or to Angels for Washburn, Donnelly, Epstein and a prospect.
  21. Yankees need a 1Bman now too. Kong could go there now
  22. Under .300 OBP in each of last 2 seasons, count me unimpressed.
