I vaguely remember something about Lopez having a slight problem too. Good recall.
-
That is where he went to HS, but he is from my home town of Bourbonnais.
-
I think Orionny Lopez is overrated by all of us, he has been in Rookie ball for both years, put up nice numbers, but does not appear to be that highly thought of by the Sox, unless he is just needs to build strength??
-
In first game of DH, McCarthy has a 1 hitter and leads 2-1 after 5 complete (7 inning game when DH remember).

Looks like Kanny called up Rafael Flores (a 6 foot 7 inch RHP) for todays doubleheader and sent Orionny Lopez back to extended spring training.

Morse hits solo homer, RBI triple for Barons Tuesday, May 04, 2004 DENNIS VICTORY For The Birmingham News Despite hitting two home runs and driving in four runs in the past two games against the Chattanooga Lookouts, Birmingham Barons shortstop Mike Morse prefers to look at the bigger picturure. "I don't want to be the kind of player who's up here and down there," the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Morse said of any hot streak talk. "I'm trying to keep it up and stay on an even keel, an even pace. Maybe on some days when I'm not playing so good at the plate, I can help with my defense." Morse provided both good defense and solid hitting during a Monday morning game against the Lookouts, belting a run-scoring triple and a solo home run to help the Barons to a 6-2 victory over the Lookouts. "Mike Morse has been swinging the bat well all season," said Barons manager Razor Shines. "Manny Trillo (hitting coach) has been working countless hours with these guys and it's good to see it paying off." The White Sox picked Morse in the third round of the 2000 draft and the 22-year old has improved at every stop. He's hitting a team- and career-high .325 and also leads the Barons in home runs (seven), RBIs (17) and hits (23). Hitting at the No. 3 position for the first time in his career, Morse sees fewer fastballs in the spot. Morse's homer came when Chattanooga starter Steve Kelley (3-1) tried to sneak an outside fastball by him in the sixth with the Lookouts leading 2-1. "I was looking for something in my zone, middle and away," Morse said. "I love the fastball away. He happened to throw it right in my cookie and I was able to get enough juice on it." The Barons took the lead for good in the sixth when Aaron McNeal doubled home Carlos Maldonado, who singled to follow Morse. Birmingham put the game out of reach in the seventh with three runs on consecutive run-scoring hits by Michael Spidale, Morse and Maldonado. Spidale doubled, his second of the game, Morse tripled and Maldonado picked up his third single of the day. The Barons outhit the Lookouts 10-9. Birmingham starter Tetsu Yofu (3-1) allowed all nine Chattanooga hits and both runs in 6Ҡinnings. Yofu struck out seven and threw 91 pitches with 71 strikes. "It all starts with your starting pitching," Shines said. "He kept us in the game. Going 6Ҡwas more than enough." The Barons picked up the first run of the game when Spidale doubled down the right field line and Maldonado drove him in with a two-out single in the first. The Lookouts tied the score with a run in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth, setting up Birmingham's comeback in the bottom of the inning. The two teams meet for the final game of the series today at 7 p.m.

Doubt he gets credit for a save.

One day after seeing their opportunity for a comeback taken away by a rainstorm, the Birmingham Barons had no such complaints on Sunday. From Our Advertiser Multiple scoring opportunities came and went for both teams, but in the end it was the Chattanooga Lookouts who found the big inning, scoring three runs in the 12th to win 6-3. The win was the second straight for the Lookouts, giving them a 2-0 lead in the four-game series in front of an afternoon crowd of 3,247 at the Hoover Met. The two teams combined for 25 hits. The Barons added eight stolen bases, but none of those resulted in a run as Birmingham stranded 13 runners. "Sometimes in this game, there are lost opportunities," said Birmingham manager Razor Shines. "There are times when you need a hit and don't get one. Sometimes you do some things right and it still doesn't go your way. Today, the fact that we were 8 for 8 in stolen bases shows me that we had some guys out there working their tails off, and we just couldn't get it done." Five different Barons hitters had two hits each, including shortstop Mike Morse, who had a home run and a double. Michael Spidale and Micah Franklin had three stolen bases each. In the 12th the Lookouts led off with a pair of singles. Kenton Kelly advanced to third on a throwing error by Barons third baseman Rob Sasser. He scored on an RBI single by Travis Wilson for the final run of the game. Barons starter Arnie Munoz left with the game tied after five innings, having given up just one earned run on four hits and two walks. He struck out six. It was his first start this year that didn't end in a victory. Reliever Brian McNichol followed with one scoreless inning. Matt Smith and Jeff Bajenaru threw two shutout innings apiece, and Josh Fields pitched a scoreless 11th, working out of a bases-loaded jam. Kris Keller (0-3) took the loss after giving up three earned runs off four hits in the 12th. The Lookouts' Wilson went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Chattanooga. Crawford Paxton (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the win. Todd Coffey pitched the 12th for his fourth save. Right-hander Tetsu Yofu (2-1, 2.31) starts for the Barons today against Lookouts right-hander Steve Kelly (3-0, 1.61). First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.

2 doubles for Spidale and a triple and homer for Morse, lead Yofu to a 6-2 win over an ex-Sox draftee, we took him in top 10 rounds the year we took Kip Wells, Steve Kelly who went to Ga Tech instead. BTW, in AAA tonight Kohlmeier against Joe Valentine, heh Here is Baron's box http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform...px?GAMEID=15633
-
Word I hear is it may be a while for he and Wing. We can enjoy the other starters for now.
-
Kohlmeier is throwing better than Grilli or Stewart, keep him in rotation, whether he has a future or not.
-
Stewart is a big guy, or looked like it last spring training on minor league field. Looked to be about Fisk size damn near. He is our best defensive catcher in the minors, would be nice if he could hit. He just has to be able to hit .220 or so to be a good backup if his defensive skills are truly as good as I have read.
-
Cool, I will check it out in my profile, thanks.
-
I would prefer links instead of boxes and long articles anyway, easier to get around. Course if I had my way no one would have sigs, takes up too much space.
-
Next time Wright throws a 96 MPH fastball will be his first. I do not care what scouting reports say.
-
Shoot, Espinal had been pitching very well, even tho I realize he is old for the league.
-
No problemo, free for you while you can keep drinking
-
And that would be surprising cause?
-
My take is to keep Cotts in the pen, he seems to be doing well there, take away last night. I would rather ease him into rotation next year. I think kids benefit when they progess in the setup role first before starting. Let Rauch or Grilli or Diaz start when we need a fifth, tho I would like to see Diaz handled like Cotts, tho as Rex pointed out on the other board, maybe Diaz is more of a veteren to not need to be handled like Cotts.
-
Sweeney was hit by pitch and removed for pinch runner. Damn.
-
Exactly, these guys wanting to get rid of Jose are not thinking straight. He is the glue to the team, like him or not.
-
Rex, Matt Guerrier took the loss today.
-
Schnurstein with good day at bat, but makes 3 errors at 3B, defense not much help for poor Rodriguez start. http://milb.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnfor...spx?GAMEID=9609

Why does Rauch never go deep into games?? Was it weather??
