Phillips and Keller get rocked, Barons lose big, 2 hits for Stewart (this is our future backup catcher if he continues to hit .250 as well as he supposedly plays D) and McNeil with nice game. Spidale gets HBP and pulled from game, keep our fingers crossed. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform...px?GAMEID=15641

Winston-Salem shut out in both games of DH, lose 2nd one 2-0, decent start for Tracey. http://milb.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnfor...px?GAMEID=15500

Nice start for McCarthy and nice pen work again for Dizard and Wasserman. 3 hits including 7th homer for Chris Young, 2 hits for the Schnur. Valido left game early, home just a rest needed. http://milb.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnfor...px?GAMEID=19375

OK, I'll give you that Reed is getting on base tho, but I would likely choose Borchard as well. Or Bobby Smith, he can play INF and OF

It is going to have to take more than one hot week to get me excited about Joe B again.

I thought Rex indicated that the 'word' out was that the brass was worried about Rauch's shoulder still.
-
Charlotte wins, Rauch goes only 5 despite big lead, he must be ailing as Rex suggested early on. Nice relief for Duncan and Santiago. Reed 1-2 and 3 BBs and 2 runs, Paz 2-4 with a BB and 2 runs, Borchard 3-5 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI, Smith 2-5 with double and homer (probably still leads league in extra base hits), Dransfeldt even had 2 hits. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform...px?GAMEID=14998

Rauch and Charlotte up 5-1 after 5, 2 hitter for Rauch so far. Doubleheader for Winston-Salem this evening, single games for Kanny and Birmingham. McCarthy for Kanny and Phillips for the Barons.

3 hits apiece for Spidale and Reyes, nice spot start for Bullard and great relief. http://milb.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnfor...px?GAMEID=15640

Lets draft about 15 in a row, see which ones pan out. Biddle was last guy who came up who came close to throwing hard at all.

Not much to say in the Kanny 6-4 loss. Couple of relievers did ok, Daigle with 3 run dinger. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform...px?GAMEID=20735

Luke Scott went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs to help the Salem Avalanche to a 3-1 win over the Winston-Salem Warthogs last night. With one out, Casey Rogowski singled to right and moved to second on a fielder's choice. Ricardo Nanita followed with a double to right to knock in Rogowski. Salem took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Adam Seuss doubled and went to third on a fielder's choice. Seuss scored on a single by Gavin Wright to make the score 2-1. The Avalanche added an insurance run in the eighth off reliever Brad Murray. Wade Robinson singled, and went to second on a wild pick-off throw. Robinwas bunted to third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Scott. Huson (0-1) pitched 51/3 innings, giving up six hits and two runs. Barons' rally keeps Munoz streak alive Wednesday, May 19, 2004 DOUG SEGREST News staff writer Arnie Munoz has four more days to ponder his place in the Southern League record book. Seeking his 13th straight win, the 21-year-old Birmingham Barons ace pitched effectively with one exception Tuesday night at the Hoover Met. But Munoz (6-0) did not figure in the decision. Birmingham rallied for a 6-3 victory against the Huntsville Stars after Munoz's departure in a game that was called after a 52-minute rain delay. Munoz is next scheduled to pitch Sunday at Greenville. Munoz entered Tuesday's start with a 12-game Southern League winning streak that began in 2002, when he went 6-0 as a reliever. Munoz spent the entire 2003 season in the bullpen of Triple-A Charlotte before a return to Birmingham this spring in a new role - starting pitcher. The 12 straight wins tied him with four pitchers in the Southern League record book. The last SL pitcher to win 12 straight was Luis Andujar of the Barons, who reeled off the dozen wins during the 1995 season. Munoz learned he tied the record after picking up a 7-3 win at Montgomery last week. Munoz has vowed not to cut his hair until the streak ends. Munoz started strong, striking out three Stars in the first two innings. But he ran into uncharacteristic trouble in the third, allowing a one-out single and a triple to Huntsville's No. 9 hitter, Johnny Raburn. After Rickie Weeks walked, Munoz got the apparent second out with a pickoff at first to thwart a double steal. Instead, a balk was called, pushing Raburn across with the second run. Weeks would score the third run on a Munoz throwing error. Munoz would exit after six innings, having allowed just three hits. The Barons (21-17) would rally to tie the game in the sixth on Scott Bikowski's RBI groundout and move ahead a stanza later on Rob Sasser's sacrifice fly. Nate Murphy put the game out of reach in the eighth with a two-run homer that came just before the umpires suspended play. After the delay, umpires ruled the field unplayable, ending it officially after eight innings. The Barons reported 3,354 tickets were sold for Tuesday's game. BARONS NOTES: Reliever Jim Bullard (1-1, 4.76) will make the spot start tonight against Huntsville's Chris Saenz (3-1, 4.02). Bullard pitched most recently on Monday, working an inning out of the pen. A day earlier he picked up the win in relief as he, starter Wyatt Allen and Josh Fields managed to no-hit the Mobile Stars for 71/3 innings.

Rex, were has Morse been???

Borchard does not have a great arm, it is ok, nothing spectacular, I think people think since he was a QB that he has a great arm. Not from what I saw in person last ST, and from what I have read it is not as good as originally touted.
-
I would like guys to stay put for half season, then maybe do some cuts and some promotions, and then we can restock lower levels with draftees.
-
Very good Q&A this time guys, this is the organized way to do it. Very informative and I appreciate the work and effort. Thanks Baj.

Zeringue is an example of a catcher who switched to the OF. Another is the catcher from Stanford or somewhere named Ryan Garko who is mostly DHing or playing 1B, I just do not like taking a catcher. Normally you take a middle infielder who has a great arm but not the real quickness needed for professional ball and convert him to a catcher (Brandon Inge). That works way better than taking a catcher from college (who thought AJ Hinch would never pan out?)
-
Not a centerfielder, and I would not get your hopes up.
-
Thanks, I thought I had heard both may go under the knife. Shoulders are worse for recovering from, hope all goes well with Ryan. Almost wish they would operate on Kris, elbows are almost routinely recovered from now days.

Kanny article for yesterday game INTIMIDATORS STRAND TOURISTS END THREE GAME LOSING STREAK (Asheville, NC) – Brian Miller (4-2) allowed just two runs in six innings and the Kannapolis bullpen shutout the Tourists leading the Intimidators to Monday’s 4-2 win over Asheville. For the third time in the series, Kannapolis (20-18) started the scoring in the first inning. Cory Haggerty crossed home after a throwing error on a ground ball hit by Leo Daigle. Asheville (18-20) claimed the lead on Jordan Czarniecki’s long ball, a two run homer, scoring Ed Montague in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Seth Morris launched his third home run of the series, a two run shot over the left field wall putting Kannapolis ahead, 3-2. Cory Haggerty’s solo home run with two outs in the sixth doubled the Intimidators lead, 4-2. Frazier Dizard entered the game in relief of Todd Deininger who started the seventh and walked three before leaving with one out. Dizard worked out of the jam popping up the two batters he faced in the inning. Ehren Wasserman closed the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning for his team leading 7th save. The Intimidators return home to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium Wednesday, May 19th for a 10:00AM Education Day vs. the Hagerstown Suns.
