  1. Yes, and that goes both ways. They'll not be able to get a deal like that again for a long time. When someone does you a favor like that and you betray them expect hardball to be played.
  2. It's not necessarily about him, it's about the unwritten code of sports management ethics. You'd really piss his agent off, for one.
  3. I don't think they're going to trade Kelley 6 months after he played a game with other teams so the Sox could land him in the 2nd round. If other teams would have known he'd have signed at that dollar amount, Kelley would have been a 1st round pick. Trading Kelley would basically guarantee that a deal like that could never be done again for at least a decade.
  4. I'm pretty neutral on Biden. I don't think he's going to change much, but if they could get an overhaul of the ACA to make it more affordable and student debt forgiveness passed that would be a huge win from a Biden administration. I am nowhere close to expecting things like M4A or the GND. Realistic goals: Some bit of student debt forgiveness, even if not complete. Programs for relief for people drowning. ACA overhaul, making healthcare more affordable for the average American Some sort of criminal justice reform Enforcement of the Sherman Antitrust act for the first time in 40+ years National infrastructure repair program to help boost the economy post-covid
  5. Eh, it depends on what they're getting. If it's Castillo or Woodruff I'm fine with it. I'm not a fan of Cease. He gives off a Lopez-ish vibe to me, about a guy with great stuff that doesn't know where it's going and doesn't miss anywhere close to the amount of bats that you'd think he should. If some organization still values him highly, be my guest. Do I think he's a complete lost cause? Absolutely not. However, I do think he's a massive project.
  6. If the Sox could get something really good with Madrigal as the centerpiece I wouldn't mind at all.
  7. You have no idea how much I'd love that. Probably wouldn't cost much either, more of a salary dump.
  8. Zack Wheeler got a $25M AAV offer on the free market and he's a borderline #2. You have to adjust your expectations. Ace money is 30M+ now. If Giolito gets better than he is now, that is a fucking bargain. 25M is "#3 with the stuff to be a #2 or ace" money at this point. Ace money is Gerrit Cole and Kershaw's contracts now. Even if Giolito just maintained his current level of performance over the life of the contract I'd still pick up that 5th year option. If he gets better, theres $10-15M of surplus value on those 2 FA years.
  9. Right, and that's how I came up with the salary structure.
  10. Can we do this moving forward, if the player in the Speculation thread ends up signing with the Sox? Would be nice.
  11. My thoughts are 4/65 with a 25M club option and a $5M buyout. So the deal could be 4/70 with the ability to be 5/90. would be structured: 2021: 5M 2022: 13M 2023: 21M 2024: 25M 2025: 25M club option with a $5M buyout
  12. Moncada did the same for 5/70. Should his agent be fired? I'd expect a Giolito extension to be similar to the one Moncada signed.
  13. Yeah, credit where credit is due, as this is the highest AAV for a closer ever, regardless of the deferred money. Jerry hasn't set the market on anyone since Belle in '96. I thought I saw a lot of smoke by the foodies on a Giolito extension as well. I'd imagine that would be similar in dollars to Moncada.
  14. So I'd imagine there's a club option for the 4th year with a hefty buyout? My guess is 3/48 with a 14M club option and a $6M buyout.
  15. @Texsox I'd like you to check out this article: https://www.npr.org/2021/01/10/955392813/the-lies-we-tell-ourselves-about-race?fbclid=IwAR1uk7wdzNWiaANlW2C-y4lsN_saOQpFp_TWS7nt_4iC9kzGn0C0XgqmQoI
