  1. My dad is a Dodger fan with a secondary rooting interest in the White Sox, as we call Chicagoland home. If the Sox and Dodgers met in the WS, we'd be on opposite sides. I am the opposite. I only root for the Dodgers when the Sox are eliminated. One of my dad's favorite moments is the Kirk Gibson thing from 88. I wish Podsednik's walkoff in 05 got the same amount of play from MLB because it was equally as improbable. Hopefully it does with the Sox return to national prominence. A big hell no to being a Padres fan.
  2. Yeah, especially because of how wild Kopech was early in 2018 before he got injured.
  3. Nice post. This is the truth. Also, you have someone like me who is autistic and thought he was going into an autistic-friendly field only to find out that you need strong interpersonal skills for the job AFTER graduation. I went into Engineering where a better field for me would have been computer science, IT or something like that. Because of all of the nightmares I've heard about how student loan debt accumulates during deferrals, I've been on SSI and worked part time since a year after I graduated, was never able to break into my chosen field AND have been using the majority of my income from part time work to make my regular payments. My folks helped me out as much as they could, and I also had an academic scholarship that covered 50% of my tuition. I never thought this was ever a going to be a problem because engineers in my field were THE HIGHEST paid post-bachelors entry level positions out of ANY degree on average. Had I been able to get and keep a job in my chosen field, I'd have been able to to make the payments easily. I've given up on that field and am now doing taking classes to get COMP TIA certs because I really enjoy helping people and troubleshooting computers and networks. It's something I could have done with just an associates degree and zero debt, which sucks in retrospect.
  4. I'm autistic dude, the inconsistency drives me bonkers. It's a WTF? moment every time I see the few words that it works on.
  5. This is how I'd convince you: If both Cease and Kopech are good, you move Richards to the bullpen and you have yet another power arm coming out of it. Q as a bullpen guy is nothing but a long reliever.
  6. I think the way around that, honestly is to make the 5th year a mutual option or a team option similar to the one that Hendriks signed. Player and Team have to agree on a mutual. Mutual options are a good compromise between team and player options. That's how I'd negotiate it at least. Either party has the right to terminate, the Sox get the extra year at least. I don't think the Sox would accept a deal with the 5th year being a high dollar amount unless it was a team or mutual. I'd advise the player to assume it's a 4 year deal until it isn't financially.
  7. I was actually going to add that to my post, but it isn't just him. Also LaRoche, who was coming off of a good year and just lost it at 35. But, I guess you could sort of see the decline coming there too.
  8. We already tried that with Encarnacion last year and it was a disaster. No more 35-40 year old DHs, please.
  9. How many ass injections is he getting from Jose Canseco?
  10. I would find it absolutely hilarious if the Sox win the WS this year with both Q and Eaton on the roster, along with Jimenez and Giolito.
  11. Moncada already made $30M so yeah that was dumb. He was already set for life.
  12. I completely agree with you. If I was Giolito's agent I'd advise him not to sign anything. I would say the same about Moncada last year. However, there is something to be said about being a part of a special group of players that has a chance to do something special. As long as the 2 free agent years are 27M+ I'd still advise against it. From a player perspective, I think a lot like Boras without being a complete dick like he is though. What he did to Jose Fernandez's gf/kid is just wrong. To put it the best way, if I were a player agent I'd treat my clients as close to family as possible while being a lot like Boras in contract negotiations.
  13. Of course it is...take it as a minor suggestion. It is more than mildly annoying to me though. I think I speak for a lot of people that think that if it isn't going to ever work properly, just turn it off completely. The inconsistency of the broken filter drives me bonkers. Though I completely understand if it's so broken that it can't be turned off either. I was in UX QA for 5 years.
  14. I would place money that we haven't seen the best of Moncada, Robert, Eloy and Giolito. When someone compared Eloy to Albert Belle this winter a smile went on my face. Belle's peak was 1st ballot HOF worthy.
  15. To make a point that the swear filter is dumb if it doesn't work properly, but yeah, nice movie reference.
  16. Well, we're Sox fans. b****ing about ownership is a camaraderie building, therapeutic exercise. It builds bonds over generations.
  17. Since the swear filter is fucking broken, can we just turn it off completely? It makes no sense that b****ing and moaning is filtered and fuck and shit are not.
  18. Completely agreed. Kopech, Vaughn and Crochet are potentially way too damn special to trade when your team's owner caps FA spending at grade B talent and limits even those players to one per offseason. You need potential stars like them in order to continue past the current 4 year window that just opened. Also completely agreed. It sucks, but it seems that Kopech made the right career move by opting out last year. That's good for both the Sox and Kopech because Kopech didn't re-injure himself and the Sox between the opt out and this year get the 1.5 years of service from Kopech that they lost with his injury. If he's everything we always hoped he'd be, the Sox would get him through his entire prime.
  19. I think if they get something done it will be a 4 year deal with a massive 5th year option. Like 27-30M.
  20. Couldn't have said it better myself. This is an insult to Sox fans intelligence.
  21. Yup. They're not getting an extension done without his FA years he's giving up being worth at least 25-30M
  22. I think it's very unlikely that they get an extension done at all if it's not done by OD. I know the Sox usually extend their players during Spring Training so I'm not giving up hope until like March 20th or so.
  23. I'd be ok trading Cease and Madrigal as a start for a deal for Woodruff or Gallen and Cease alone for someone like Burnes. The Sox need someone that's dependable in the rotation, especially with a Giolito extension becoming less likely by the day.
