  1. Colas probably is going to sign with the Sox, but not until the 2021 J2 period. If the Sox get Cespedes, where would you guys slot him in? I'd swap Kelley and Crochet, but I'm higher on Crochet than most. Most lists will have it this way.
  2. Power play? Offer him what they have left and see if he signs or goes back to Auburn?
  3. Ok, why didn't he go in the first round then? Not trying to be a smart ass, just asking. You know more than I do on this.
  4. HS SP are known to have their stuff deteriorate when going from starting once a week to every 5 days. A guy with a body and "now" stuff like Kelley is more likely to have that happen to him. That's why I said that I like him, but not that much. If his stuff backs up at all it's likely that it is what it is at that point.
  5. I get the strategy in a 5 round draft, don't get me wrong.......I'm a bit concerned about Kelley backing up in the pros. If there wasn't that concern, I don't think he'd have been there at 47.
  6. I'm in between here. I think they could have taken a different HS SP with upside that didn't require them to punt more than their 3rd rounder.
  7. Is he really a high upside 2nd rounder though? A lot of scouts had questions about his now body/stuff. Dude doesn't have a breaking ball either.
  8. We should know whether or not they're punting the last 3 rounds after this pick. They could pull a power play with their 5th rounder
  9. I'd say they're between Madrigal and Stiever.
  10. In a draft with only 5 rounds, if there was a year to go top heavy it's this one.
  11. Nobody is comparing Crochet to Chris Sale, the MLB pitcher on a HOF trajectory. They are comparing Crochet to Chris Sale, the 21 year old prospect from FGCU. I think people misuse MLB comps way too much. They're not comparing these kids to fully developed MLB players , but MLB players as prospects at the time they were drafted.
  12. The hope is that they can keep him healthy until age 30 like they did with Sale.
  13. That's just scout speak. That's the same thing that prospect writeups say about Kopech. #3 starter with hopes for more is code for ace upside.
  14. I'd be surprised if Kelley made it to the Sox 2nd round pick. I hope Fulton is still there and the Sox snap him up, TJS or not, should Kelley be off the board.
  15. Keith Law's writeup on Crochet, he thinks there's significant reliever risk there, but it's all about keeping him healthy. The Sox are really good at that. The bolded stands out to me. Also, MLB pipeline gave him a 60 grade on his changeup. This guy has stuff to dream on..... Also, Crochet had the top spin rate of any NCAA Fastball IIRC.
