  1. I disagree....it's labor vs. management. Unless Labor is asking for something completely ridiculous and unreasonable, which they're not in this case......then I side with labor as a general rule. The owners can't ask for any type of revenue split without opening their books. The MLB Owners haven't opened them in 50 years of collective bargaining. the Players are justified in calling bullshit unless they see it for themselves, and have an independent accounting firm examine them.
  2. Bingo. Also, though an incident of police brutality started the protests, it's about far more than only that at this point, given the number of people protesting in cities around the country. Besides overt racism, it's also about the following: Widespread economic disenfranchisement Mass Incarceration Commodification of every aspect of human life Placing a greater value on money, goods and services than human life. Placing too much value on individualism and not nearly enough on community and the humanity of their fellow human beings. And all of these things affect black people, then other minority groups a lot more than your average white folks....but even a subset of them are not immune from these injustices. All of the above are sins of the United States at this point in our history
  3. As someone who strongly believes in politics affecting everyday life....there are some things that are beyond politics....like climate change, pandemics, racism, and human rights violations/general human suffering. Injecting politics into those issues is beyond reprehensible, and borders on pure evil.
  4. Sorry, I meant most huge, established businesses. Even with small businesses, sometimes it takes a few years for them to become profitable. You don't invest in a small business without giving it the time to become profitable. It depends on the size of the losses and how much loss the owner can personally take before they shut it down. I'll have to agree to disagree on the owners not throwing a temper tantrum. If the owners are going to take a loss, it's going to be two years at most. Then the CBA is up, and they'll be able to re-negotiate based on the new economics. If you have enough money to own a sports team, they can operate at a loss for a season. The Players are correct to stand their ground on the pro-rated salaries with deferments. The owners are throwing a temper tantrum because they're saying that they won't play unless they can make a profit.....like they're going to lose money forever. Fans will be back eventually, and they'll be able to re-negotiate the CBA following the 2021 season to recoup their losses.
  5. Baseball is a sport where if you're playing fewer than a half season(80-82) worth of games, the results become meaningless. They have to agree on at least 80 games otherwise the season is a joke. The owners are basically saying "we have to guarantee ourselves a profit in order to operate" That's not how business works. This is probably a temporary situation, and if it becomes permanent they can negotiate it in the next CBA. You want to negotiate now? Open up the CBA. Otherwise, fuck off. Most businesses don't close after one year of losses. They're throwing a fucking temper tantrum over one fucking year of losses. They can get off their high horse and go fuck themselves.
  6. It isn't about that, it's about how incredibly easily transmissible this thing is. One player or coach gets it, 15+ of the 30 man roster can be out 10 days later and you're having the Charlotte Knights playing MLB games instead of the Chicago White Sox. All it takes is one person to start a chain reaction that shuts everything down again. We do not have a handle on this like South Korea does.
  7. It's more about the Stuff+6-6 LHP+ low 3/4 delivery+reliever risk coming out of college. When we make that comparison, we're talking about Sale, the amateur prospect in 2010, not Sale, the MLB pitcher on a HOF trajectory.
  8. This is the real reason why you just can't have sports until this fucker is over or there's a treatment.
  9. Yeah, that's where I'm at. The Owners are on the opposite side of the universe from the players. About as far apart as they can be. I don't see how they're going to be able to play. Not enough time to mend the grand canyon sized gulf between them. Given that there's questions about the 2021 season having fans, It seems that the next CBA negotiations are happening now. Labor Armageddon is here.
  10. Nola took a jump in quality of stuff when he turned pro. That doesn't happen often with college starters. More often they take a step backward rather than forward.
  11. Thank you. This needs to stop...now.
  12. That's not what I meant. I meant are people that don't get very sick having lung damage, other organ damage like people who do get very sick? Has anyone looked into this?
  13. You could say that about everything at this point. I don't think that we can say we know anything about covid as a fact other than things that can be established so quickly. It took nearly a decade for them to establish complete info on HIV. They started to take it seriously in 1985 and they really didn't know anything beyond anecdotes until the early 90s. I'm only comparing HIV and Covid in their early stages of knowledge, because they're completely different viruses in both how they spread and lethality.
  14. Has anyone done a study on effects of Covid infection on people who don't need to be hospitalized? I'm wondering if some of the same long-term effects are happening to people who don't even get very sick as those who are hospitalized, on oxygen but never get sick enough to have to be ventilated.
  15. That's my sense, that the frequency of my questions rubbed them that I'm too needy. I was going to mess with their production website so I had better ideas of where to look this week, but I never got the opportunity. Also, sometimes I have momentary lapses where I forget the scope of the project, mostly due to misinterpretation of directions. That bugs some people.
  16. No. They let me mess around with the website for an hour, told me that I'd used up my hours for the week, and then they messaged me on slack and said that I wasn't a good fit for their company. That's as far as it went.
  17. I was in a software testing role, I just wanted more specifics about which features that needed to be tested. Like the feature within the feature. I've done it long enough to know that it's really hard to find stuff in exploratory testing without knowing where to look. I didn't even have enough time to learn the ins and outs of the software.
  18. I honestly have no idea......I could have unknowingly broken the social rules, but I really have no clue what the hell I did. I had 2 zoom meetings with my managers on the first day and then the second day was on 100% on Slack. All WFH shit. The next day they brought me in just to fire me. I guess asking for more detailed instructions might have been an issue, or sending a slack message late at night on day 2 (I had forgotten that the guy wasn't on the West Coast so I momentarily thought he was 2 hours behind me...It would have been 7pm in that case....I wasn't expecting it to be answered immediately anyway. I don't remember doing anything so inappropriate as to get fired in 48 hours...unless I did do something in which I have no idea what it is.
  19. Now that I found out that Crochet is a likely reliever, I hope that Detmers falls or they take Kjerstad.
  20. Lack of funding and interest. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-care/scientists-were-close-coronavirus-vaccine-years-ago-then-money-dried-n1150091
  21. No, there isn't. I'm convinced it's HR in their ear telling them not to say anything because they don't want to work with a person on the spectrum, and they have to protect themselves legally. Those were my words, not theirs. I know what it is, the job didn't have a lot of structure and I didn't have enough time to acclimate, and they didn't want to wait for me to do so.
  22. Just my opinion, but anyone who is working away from home and around other people right now should get hazard pay. I don't care who it is or how much they're getting paid. The players aren't being unreasonable at all. If you have enough money to own a sports team, you can pay your players for playing in empty stadiums.
  23. Nope. Just told me to go away.
