  1. Of course...you can think and plan, but putting a date on anything at this time is just not realistic. Maybe you misunderstood what I was talking about. I was talking about timeframes, not planning to re-open or what that would look like. Having a plan to re-open things is fine, that's what should be done, and is a valuable use of this time. Giving a "drop dead date" right now, or even giving a suggested date of relaxing of restrictions, with the lack of information that exists is beyond asinine. It's criminal to relax restrictions before the number of new infections plateaus, and you can test anyone who needs to be tested. We've already gone this far, why make it all pointless?
  2. There's not enough information yet to make an informed decision. Until there is, you can't put a timeframe on anything. You can't even think about even lifting restrictions until there is enough testing that anyone who wants a test can get one. There's not even enough data to say definitively that we're turning the peak, because the data is incomplete. The data that exists isn't sufficient for any big picture decision making. The bottom line is that anyone who says anything is possible is lying out their ass. The correct answer is that we don't know and we don't have enough information. Facts are facts.
  3. Yet another thread from experts saying that even lifting restrictions any time soon isn't likely, let alone having sports in empty stadiums. https://theathletic.com/1747847/2020/04/15/data-not-dates-what-doctors-need-to-know-before-sports-should-return-to-normal/
  4. I'd be thrilled if the Sox took Crochet. Could end up like Sale. Similar to him there in so many ways, in terms of risk/reward.
  5. I guess I just don't see how you could keep the players and staff healthy. I also don't think that playing games in Arizona and Florida in July and August without having domed stadiums is possible due to the weather in both spots (heat/humidity in AZ, rain in FL) All it takes is for one person to get sick again and sports are shut down yet again. It's more likely than not that they attempt to play but someone gets sick a week or two into resumption and then the remainder is canceled. Read this article about why Sports aren't coming back any time soon: https://www.si.com/mlb/2020/04/10/sports-arent-coming-back-soon
  6. This is the one sport that can get away with it.
  7. It was the minute shit hit the fan in North America. We can only hope that the NFL/NHL/NBA run this fall. I've yet to see an MLB proposal that doesn't have serious issues. I find it hard to see how any league could operate before August, and that's if everything goes perfectly. It's hard to envision the NFL running just because of the number of people involved. It's going to be hard to see pro sports return until large gatherings are allowed again, because even with no fans, to run pro sports involves enough people for it to be a large gathering.
  8. Does anyone still have hope for baseball in 2020?
  9. This is some scary shit: https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/scientists-discover-coronavirus-can-kill-immune-cells-usually-used-to-fight-off-illness/news-story/7f1218a91d342d73b827177c51a3828a
  10. That article seems to claim that even social distancing isn't working there and it's breaking through that. That's.....not good. Especially here, where nutjobs want to re-open the economy. Maybe it's because their social distancing measures aren't stringent enough.
  11. Also correct. But in a pandemic, the more populated countries will obviously have higher pure numbers, and that's my point. more people>more people getting sick>more people dying(just in pure numbers) which is why per capita is a better measuring stick.
  12. Deaths per capita is a better statistic tbh. Of course the US leads in deaths, because we're the 2nd most populated country to be hit hard and you can't trust the numbers coming out of China.
  13. Right, and that's what brings them to the 75-82 win/162 range instead of complete crap like the Tigers and Royals. They're the 2016 Sox on steroids.
  14. You could make a decent argument that the Angels entire team is Trout, Rendon and Ohtani. I mean look at their roster. Outside of those 3 guys(and maybe Dylan Bundy because he was having a wonderful spring with a significant velocity increase) it's absolute crap. Jo Adell helps, but even if he comes up and rakes, and Bundy is good they're still the 2016 Sox on steroids. https://www.mlb.com/angels/roster I'll take the Sox roster over the Angels.
  15. Cactus League West is worse. There are no pushovers. The GL South has the Marlins. I would have picked the Reds to challenge the Cubs for the NLC. Sox vs Indians is a tossup, and the Angels are mediocre, but not flat out bad. They also have Mike frickin Trout and Anthony Rendon. That being said, baseball in 2020>>>no baseball in 2020
  16. Occasionally, the power structure has to let one through to keep the widespread corruption under wraps. When allowed to do so, reporting absolutely holds truth to power. The huge issue is that media companies are being bought up and controlled by those same power brokers, so they can control the narrative.
  17. I don't think that. I think there are a lot of good people that aren't allowed to do their job properly and have to cave to those people in order to keep their paychecks. My comments were more geared toward management than the individual journalists themselves. It's a power play by upper management. Sorry for not being more clear on that. I think at the higher levels, there is a lot of manipulation going on. At the lower levels, I think there are lots of arguments about what gets published and what doesn't because sales and dollars. Sorry for the confusion. I believe that the press is the 4th branch of government, and being a slave to profits like every other company is dangerous.
  18. Could be. The 4 teams not named LAD are pretty close though. I think the Angels are the clear bottom feeder because their pitching blows. It all comes down to Giolito vs. Ohtani coming off TJS.
  19. It's geography based. They're based on location in the Phoenix Metro area.
  20. Cincinnati and Cleveland are on par with or better than the Sox. The Angels aren't that far behind. That division would be an absolute gauntlet and any of the the teams not named the Dodgers could finish in any order and I wouldn't be shocked.
  21. I believe that there are independent journalists that have a moral compass but they get fired or neutered fairly quickly. When was the last time a politician or CEO was actually held accountable by the media? Where's the investigative journalism that took down Nixon, gathering enough evidence that not even his own party could defend him? Where is that when it's needed now more than ever? It doesn't exist. Excuse Me for distrusting the media when a major newspaper like the Washington Post is owned by Gollum incarnate himself, Jeff Bezos. Until we start putting people and the truth over profit, nothing will change. Btw you might have misunderstood me, but I think a lot of it is intentionally misleading. It takes a brain to pick out the facts from the bullshit. I haven't posted in this thread for a while, Maybe I'll just continue to stay out.
  22. I'm convinced that MSNBC and CNN only exist to give Fox an argument for legitimacy. I'm sure that their respective corporate overlords would love to spew Fox level bullshit but realize that spewing bullshit masquerading as the other side is more powerful, as it gives Fox legitimacy. When it comes to news, I don't want opinions. I want facts and reality. Just give me the truth and let me come to my own conclusions. You guys all know where I stand politically but this CNN/Fox/MSNBC and even newspapers have crossed the line from news to propaganda long ago. I can't fucking stand it. I've done a lot of looking into truth and all I can find is propaganda. There's right wing, left wing, and centrist propaganda but the truth is nowhere to be found at every level of journalism. Everyone has an agenda. Why? Because news companies have fallen victim to the shareholder profit scam. They'll print what sells vs. what is factual. Without an independent press, we're doomed. When you can't trust journalists because they're being manipulated by their corporate overlords to push an agenda, then we're in a post-truth world. It's 1984 level shit.
  23. Baseball was invented in NY/New England so that is the correct climate dipshit. (just ball busting)
