PSA for anyone in the NW burbs: If you think you might have it, go here: https://wgntv.com/news/coronavirus/suburban-hospital-starts-drive-thru-service-for-covid-19-testing/?fbclid=IwAR3rf90OdcXQuMchOd7Axyb_Sz0sCAX4JSyuwhcHHwjoDlbkrcNIbR_omxo This has severely mitigated the burden on the healthcare system and the spread of the disease in South Korea.

Well, cooler heads prevailed and they decided to go remote as of Monday. Will pick up when this thing is solved. Phew.
-
Hoping like hell that they come to their senses and cancel onboarding by Sunday evening.
-
I will. I'm just think it's asinine because their onboarding process takes 3 weeks and I'm not expecting them to be able to complete it before they go remote. I know why they're taking so long, it's because they have a lot of proprietary products that belong to their clients and they have to get the ok for people to take it home with them. It's an intellectual property issue. I worked there for 5 years before taking 2 off to explore other options. When I re-applied they called me within a few days. I'm going to be beyond frustrated if I have to go for 3-5 days and then they pull the plug. If they wanted their current employees to still come in, that would be understandable. Starting a 3 week onboarding process now just doesn't make much sense. If they told everyone that they were delaying onboarding I'd completely get it. It is what I was expecting to hear. Thanks for the sentiment. During my first stint at this company, I wasn't considering it as a career option like I am now. I was one of the first 15 employees the company had, and went through all of the growing pains associated with a start-up. As everyone knows, I have a BS in Chemical Engineering and have Asperger's. During my first stint, was using it as a placeholder until I could find something in my field. I allowed myself to make social decisions and mistakes in order to learn appropriate workplace behavior that I wouldn't have if I was considering it a career option. I took time off because by the time I had made those mistakes, I had built up a poor reputation. I asked for a hard reset for a while so I could come back with a fresh start. Now(of all times) I'm getting that opportunity.

Like I said, I have to start work Monday and I think it's beyond asinine that they haven't stopped training and gone remote yet. However, I'm not making the decisions so I have to deal with the consequences of other people's choices. I just hope it doesn't affect me or my family or anyone else who works there. Holding out hope that they make the decision to go remote by Sunday.

They're going to probably adjust service time on a percentage basis. That's actually good for the PA, as it gets minor leaguers up and earning MLB salaries sooner. So let's say the usual season is 180 days and Kopech needs to be down for 46 in order to gain the extra year.....that's 25.56%. Let's say there's 100 games, and 110 days in the season. Under that assumption, Kopech would need to be down 28 days. Just prepare for them to play service time games with him regardless.

You live in the Austin-San Antonio area? or DFW?

Probably got a call from Scott B. saying "dude wtf?"

I survived the interview process because this is a company I worked for before and I left, ironically enough, because there was no easy way to get from my house and the office, the commute was long as hell and I was going through a car every 3 years. They were happy with my work and told me I could return if I wished to do so. There was another issue going on as well with a co-worker who is no longer at the company. I decided to explore some other options, but in the end decided that I want to go back. I was finally able to mitigate the commute issue, use public transit, and now I don't want to do it at least temporarily. The definition of irony. If you don't know, I'm on the spectrum and this company specializes is employing people like me who have been left behind by the mainstream workforce.

he deleted it but it was a pic of Cubs gear and it said "don't worry folks, there's plenty of TP left"

Have to start work Monday downtown Chicago. There is no legit way for me to get there without taking the Metra. I've been waiting 5 weeks to start this job, but like I said I have ppl that I live with that are at higher risk from this thing. I could drive, but then I have to pay downtown parking rates which I can't afford and I'm supposed to go 5 days a week for 3 weeks. How do I get this done without endangering my family? I'm beyond shocked that they haven't gone remote yet. I wasn't expecting to have to start work until this whole thing blew over. This is an IT company. I'm bringing my own keyboard and mouse, and will do all of my testing on my personal tablet and cell phone. Beyond that, idk how to protect myself (and my family by proxy) while on the Metra.

The only explanation is that he's either an idiot or a malignant narcissist. Take your pick on what's worse. The only reason why he's not testing more people is because the only thing he cares about is getting re-elected in November. This is a political decision, not a best interest in public health one. Apologies to the mods if we're still under a politics ban, and I'll drop it and delete this message if we are. Fellow posters, please don't quote this post until I get the goahead from the mods that it's ok to talk politics.
-
It's exactly the opposite. The only reason why it isn't much worse here(in terms of #infected) already is because of the lack of testing and lack of access to healthcare. If the US would have had its shit together, we'd probably have been where we are now a week ago. They have drive-thru testing in CO and that should be model nation wide. Only go to the hospital if you're gasping for air/running an abnormally high fever, or have another medical related emergency. It might not be feasible but if they get enough kits going, anyone school age or older should get tested.

I suggest e-books. I have mini library of chess books I've accumulated and I wish I'd have gone the e-book route. Every time I go to the club I have to pick and choose which ones to bring and which ones to leave at home.
-
We play chess. We study the game together. There's a lifetime of learning in that game, and there's always more to learn.
-
LMAO. Yeah, and I've decided to stay home anyway. It's more about the facility that it's held in than the people. I was getting some social pressure from my study buddy because I've been trying to convince him not to go, as my buddy is a 75 year old man with tons of underlying conditions. He's being stubborn. I've been 95% sure I wasn't going anyway the entire time. Just wanted to run it by everyone to make sure he's the crazy one and not me. Keep him in your thoughts that he doesn't get exposed there.
-
That's what anxiety does to you. It fucking blows. I've made the decision to stay home already.
-
Yeah. I have and I realized I'd be an idiot(and hypocrite) if I went, so I'm not going.
-
Yeah, and I'm strongly leaning against it. I have anxiety issues and again I'm wondering if I'm overreacting here. Small group of people that I know. It doesn't matter, I've already decided to stay home anyway.
-
Ok guys, asking for advice: should I go to my chess club tonight or stay home? What would you do? It's held in a community center so I'm a bit nervous.
-
MLB considering no crowds allowed on Opening Day?

It's so incredibly White Sox. -
That hasn't been used regularly in a while. It should make a comeback.

Well, the good news for us younger folk is that they're prioritizing us over older people if you come down with severe illness(at least in other countries overrun) Though I'm concerned a bit about myself fitting the criteria because I'm a fatass. Not really my choice because I was born with structural deformities in my legs that made physical activity severely painful.
