It's a proactive measure to stop this in its tracks. It isn't unnecessary panic at this point. It's 100% necessary. There are cases in most major cities already. There are probably thousands of people infected in each major city that are unknown. This thing is going to spread like wildfire if they don't just shut it down now. Business as usual will just lead to a Lombardy situation in every major city in the country, and eventually the world. Obviously everyone can't stay home from work unless it's mandatory, but idk what the hell they're waiting for. If they would have done it two weeks ago, it would have been contained by now. The only way to stop this thing is to shut it down.

They really need to get ahead of this shit and shut it down now. If it reaches the Italy point of saturation, it's already too late.

The entire country of Italy is now on lockdown. Just a matter of time before it's everybody. The only thing keeping things running right now is greed.

So if spring training stats mean nothing, how should a manager decide who wins a position battle? You obviously can't make a decision until making the wrong one starts costing you games, right? -

Someone ask this announcer who Larry Garcia is. -
The thing is that there are a lot of people walking around who don't even know they have those issues. Also, especially in the US, a truly "healthy adult" is rare due to obesity and diet. People in their 30s are dying of heart disease. My aunt is a cardiac ICU nurse and I hear more and more stories of people in their 30s and 40s just dropping dead.
-
Not true. Based on what I've heard, anyone over the age of 25 is at risk of developing severe symptoms. Really, the only age groups that are safe are ppl in their teens and early 20s. In China, they have had deaths in people as young as their late 20s.
-
That's probably going to happen regardless, either because of billions of people getting sick or because world leaders decide to do it. It's out of control. At this point, might as well be proactive and minimize the damage. If the healthcare system becomes overwhelmed, if you have severe symptoms you're a goner. Whatever measures are necessary to prevent the healthcare systems worldwide from being overwhelmed should be taken today(as in the next five seconds). Nobody at this point, should we continue on our current trajectory, should be expecting to be able to go to a hospital if they need to do so.

Honestly, if they want to contain this thing shutting down society is literally the only way to do it. This thing is in the same virus family as the common cold. Think about how easy it is to get and transmit the cold......and then apply it to something that is probably killing 1-2% of the people that it's infecting. If people continue living their lives as normal, this is going to get really bad. Honestly, they should probably shut down major metro areas tomorrow if they want to kill this thing. It's too easily transmissible to not do that. If they don't, then more people are going to die than otherwise would, and not just from the coronavirus. This has the potential to overload the healthcare system to the point where there aren't enough healthcare workers to help all of the people who are sick, with any life-threatening ailment whatsoever.

At this point, I'm not sure there will be a baseball season.

Sure. I was talking about 2011 Dunn/2019 Alonso levels of bad.
-
It's cause for concern, but I wouldn't be alarmed until it's Memorial Day and He's Adam Dunn-ing it up. As has been said, EE is a slow starter and it's not like anyone expects him to hit over .250 at this stage of his career. Am I concerned? A little bit, but mostly because of the whole history of the Sox and DHs since Jim Thome. It's all bias related paranoia. Personally, I wish they didn't sign EE and decided to give Collins a look. It's likely that Vaughn will be pushing for the Majors by August anyway.
-
I'm not particularly worried about this, but maybe I should be. It could be simply that it could be much worse than we all think because HCW are going to be dropping like flies(getting sick and not necessarily dying) and there simply isn't enough infrastructure in place to handle what's about to happen. It literally seems like the only way to stop the spread of this thing is to shut everything down.

Mercedes with another HR.

Things like not being able to catch up to a fastball is absolutely something that could carry over. I generally agree with you about spring numbers, but something this alarmingly bad is cause for concern. It's similar to a pitcher's velo being way down.
-
It isn't just that guy, it's been everyone all spring.
-
It isn't about spring training, it's about his inability to catch up to a fastball.
-
How long do they give EE if he sucks before he loses playing time? It seems like it's going to be the Sox rule of always choosing the wrong DH, whether it has to do with being over the hill or just sucking.
-
Mazara looks good this spring based on what I've seen of him. Another walk.
-
If he's still throwing hard, he's my guy at 11. I'd like them to take him and then go prep heavy the next few rounds. Next year go prep early.

They're actually the worst team in the last 25 years. They're on pace for the fewest points since the 1995-96 Ottawa Senators. If Detroit wins 2 of their last 13 they'll tie them. -
Lol

@raBBit We have no idea if signing Abreu helped get Robert and Moncada locked up. That's more important than having a flexible DH. If it did, it was well worth it.
