  1. The largest contract handed out in team history is worth $73M. That's all you need to know. He's only loyal to his players, so much as they sign for his price and terms.
  2. There's a fine line between loyalty and accountability. My opinion is that JR is too loyal to his front office and not loyal enough to his players. This goes for both of his franchises. If anything, good owners operate in the opposite way.
  3. And I have and always believed that the majority of Bowman's horrible moves from 2015-17 were because those were the specific players that Quenneville wanted. I don't think it's a coincidence that Brandon Manning was signed and then traded weeks after Quenneville's dismissal. Daley for Scuderi was a Quenneville move, I also believe Saad for Panarin was a Quenneville move.
  4. Well, now that there's more info out there it is more defensible. 3rd round picks or worse aren't going to move the needle any, so if that's what they're being offered, then wtf is he supposed to do? BTW, I just went through this entire thread and I've been pretty consistent on defending Bowman. I don't know what planet you're from.
  5. If they don't make multiple moves by 2pm tomorrow, I've decided that I can't defend Bowman anymore. Not moving players tomorrow is just fucking unacceptable. 17.5 hrs to jumping on the Can Stan train.
  6. I saw Mazara walked. I thought those were about as rare as Anderson walks.
  7. I'm starting to think that next winter is when those guys sign their extensions. Both sides maximize certainty at that point. I think both guys want to re-sign but they're in no hurry to get their money right now because they believe in themselves.
  8. Not if you can't afford it. Also, think about how your paycheck actually goes up if healthcare isn't the responsibility of your employer.
  9. Greg, the issue is that Healthcare cannot be allowed to be run in a pure capitalistic sense. It defeats the purpose. You have to take the profit motive out, as leaving it in just leads to abuses. There are certain industries that having a profit motive is actually a bad thing. Healthcare is one, and education is another.
  10. Exactly. We separate ourselves from Cub fans by not being unicorns farting rainbows. It is a rite of passage to b**** about the FO/Ownership.
  11. If Crochet is healthy, still in the high 90s, and available at 11 they should take him. They really need a high impact LHP.
  12. I don't like committing to relievers with only one good season. Seems like a dumb move. I know it's cheap, but those years on the back end could but a dent in this window if his performance goes south. Relievers are way too damn volatile. Good for Bummer though getting paid.
  13. Cutler and Trubisky deserve that scrutiny because of where they were picked and the acquisition cost. I already said I was as guilty of it as anyone, but I can't deny that has an effect on these guys.
  14. No, those guys suck. But there's an incredible amount of pressure on any Bears QB drafted in the 1st round. They carry around the 70 years of failure on their backs.
  15. I've realized that this is a problem and adjusted accordingly. It wasn't just me, it's nearly everyone. My attitude is let's develop a competent QB first before developing a HOF QB. The Bears haven't even accomplished that. The only competent QBs the Bears have had that I can actually remember were acquired via trade or Free Agency (Cutler and Kramer when healthy)
  16. This is the problem with the Bears fanbase.....Every QB brought in is held to the Tom Brady standard, otherwise they're trash. Just being good isn't good enough. The Bears QB must be the best to ever play the game...or else. I swear to god the Bears fanbase has the highest standards for what makes an acceptable QB for a team that has barely had competence at the position over the last 70 years.
  17. Well, I guess we can agree on something....?
  18. He has drafted NHL players late in the 1st round since he's been GM. Drafting is his biggest strength. It isn't his fault Kevin Hayes didn't sign. Dach and Boqvist look like future studs. He made the right decision letting Niemi walk and matching Hjalmarsson's offer sheet. The 2013 and 2015 Cups are a direct result of his drafting and shrewd moves. Even since 2015 can count the number of bad moves he's made on one hand. Also, the only bad move he's made since Q got fired is trading Jokiharju, and the Jury's still out on that one. Jokiharju is on pace for fewer than 20 points and has not established himself as a top 4 D in Buffalo. Nylander has made strides recently. The value wasn't the greatest but I think the Hawks had a lower value on Jokiharju than other teams did. You can yell and scream Panarin and Teravainen until you're blue in the face but that doesn't change the fact that they would have had to trade them anyway. People forget how much of a disappointment Teravainen was with the Hawks. The cap space was more important than waiting 2 more seasons for him to break out. Regardless of what Panarin says, are you going to trade 19 or 88 to keep him? What the hell was Bowman supposed to do with Seabrook? In retrospect, the right move would have been to trade Seabrook and Hjalmarsson in the summer of 15. How are you going to sell taking that big of a step back to your fans coming off of a championship? Is Bowman perfect? No. But nobody is. I'm ok if they fire him, but be careful what you wish for. This is going down exactly like the Bulls collapse. We're so busy pointing fingers that we can't appreciate what they accomplished. The reason I'm hesitant to fire Bowman is that he and Kelley are so damn good at drafting, and young players are what they need right now. If it wasn't for that, I'd be on the boat with you.
  19. I hate Colliton. If it takes firing Bowman to be rid of JC, then so be it. That being said, it was time for Quenneville to go. I was fine with giving Colliton a chance. It's not working, time for him to go. Bowman isn't terrible. If he got fired he'd have job offers from 10 teams within hours of his dismissal. You and Tony deserve Chia Pet. Bowman can't hear all of the GMs that you claim are better than him because his ears are plugged with 2 of his 3 Stanley Cup rings. Tallon wanted to Re-Sign Havlat instead of signing Hossa. That would have been a disaster that would have resulted in zero Stanley Cups, so you can shove your "Tallon and Mike Smith built the team" where the sun don't shine. Bowman is responsible for all 3 Stanley Cups on that move alone. There are some truly bad GMs out there. You don't know how good you have it.
