Hahn and Kenny deserve more credit, but not that much more. The difference is negligible, despite the championship. Take the 2000s out of it and the gap shrinks to almost nothing. Derrick Rose got injured and Chris Sale didn't. That's the main difference. Hahn and Kenny did better in their trades. They both sucked at drafting.

Apparently this deal may be canceled due to "Graterol's medicals"(code for insane fanbase and media backlash)

Serious question: Why do we only find a person for the job? When that route fails, why can't we have a system in place where we find a job for the person? That way there are fewer people that are left behind. Everyone is good at something, even some ID people can contribute if we decided it was important. Some people just need to be told what to do, because choices lead to inaction.

It could be a good gamble. I feel like I'm the only Sox fan bullish on Mazara. Again, if they can get Mazara hitting fly balls he's going to absolutely rake.
-
I don't know about you, but I think they really, really like Mazara. He hasn't shown much yet but if they unlock his swing and get him hitting fly balls he could be a monster.
-
Hold your horses...the Sox haven't won anything yet.
-
Thanks for being rational. Mazara has a huge ceiling still. Only 24.

I don't know much about this guy. Is he anything?
-
We should all love it.....They just got worse from 2021 forward.

The Bulls issue is that they always take safe players over boom/bust...Which is the absolute wrong thing to do in the NBA, where you need stars to win.

All I have to say is.... MY EYES!!!!!!

I think everyone is sleeping on Mazara. His OBP will never be the greatest, but it wouldn't surprise me if he absolutely explodes this year. I've always liked him, so maybe I'm biased. He's only a month older than Moncada.

Is Mookie Betts a real option for the Sox with payroll history??
Jack Parkman replied to Kpet1010's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Very true. Every team in baseball can afford to spend right up to the Luxury tax if they wanted to. Whether they choose to or not is a different story altogether. If Jerry refuses to pay Moncada it's inexcusable. Wait until the end of the season to make sure he's great, and then pay that man his money. -
Yeah, but 3B is stacked and Tatis never had a bad year in the Majors. Tatis just came up and raked.
-
I don't think Moncada is going to make it either, because they take 2018 into account and 3B is an absolutely stacked position.

I know Kopech has been recovering from TJS for 15 months, but he was a top 20 prospect before his injury and by reports he's still topping out at 102 mph after surgery. There's no reason why he still shouldn't be a top 20 prospect. He has more upside than Mize or Whitley.

People are allowed to be ignorant, as everyone is ignorant on something here or there. The difference between being ignorant and being a scumbag is whether or not you ignore facts and continue to hold the same beliefs after you've been educated on the nuances of a particular subject. I have an invisible disability and it's really hard for people to grasp that. I give others plenty of time to try to grasp it, but eventually if they continue do deny its existence, I can't do anything about it. At that point, people cross the line from just being ignorant to closed minded. If they actively campaign for political candidates that hurt other people or threaten their humanity, then you cross the line from closed minded to scumbag, because at that point you're part of the problem. It's about open-mindedness to other perspectives and experiences on life, and that sometimes, people live a sheltered existence. How much were you exposed to other cultures as a kid has a lot to do with it. I believe a lot of ignorance is based on lack of exposure, and once exposed it changes people's minds, unless you're just an asshole.

I realize that, You gotta pick two out of the 4 that can be done. If Moncada wants to hit FA, by all means there's nothing they can do. But you have to try like hell to keep him around. What's nice is that everyone is spread out. Going through this exercise underscores how important it is that they get the year back from Kopech.

ding ding ding we have a winner.

Mazara actually fired Boras a while ago, so it might not be as big of an issue as people thought initially. One thing I've noticed over the years, is that the Sox don't have as good of a reputation for being a great organization for players as they should. Maybe that has to do with their lack of handing out $100M contracts, but most guys who play a long time with the Sox genuinely enjoy being here, and the Sox haven't had a true superstar since the Big Hurt. It remains to be seen whether or not they'll pay up if Moncada/Giolito live up to their prospect billing. Part of the reason why we don't know this is that they haven't developed a superstar player since Hurt. I'm pretty sure that either Moncada, Robert or both are going to be superstars, and I'm pretty sure that either Giolito, Kopech or both are going to be ace quality pitchers. It would do wonders to the league-wide reputation of the White Sox if they paid Moncada and either Giolito or Kopech. I've already resigned myself to the fact that one of those two is leaving. If I had to guess, of any of them get paid by the Sox, it will be Moncada and Giolito because they're up first and extend the competitive window. I can live with Robert and Kopech walking at the end of their team control if all 4 players become superstars. They're going to run into the issue the Cubs have right now with Bryant and Baez, but with the Sox it's going to be on the pitching staff with Giolito and Kopech. Luckily for the Sox, the best player agent in baseball doesn't represent anyone other than Carlos Rodon on the Sox.

I want to both laugh at and love this post This post wins the thread.

It's worth the gamble. Hopefully, it's only a 1 year experiment. They can afford to gamble on Mazara in 2020. They can't afford to in 2021. If it hits, he solves a long-term problem, and wasn't that expensive. If he misses, well..... If I would have had a choice, I would have signed Castellanos/Puig instead of EE and split time between Mazara, Collins and the other RF at DH and Mazara and the other RF in RF. I think EE is a really good DH, but he makes the roster too inflexible. I prefer positional versatility, but that's just me.

Offseason 2019-2020 MLB Catch All Thread
Jack Parkman replied to iWiN4PreP's topic in The Diamond Club
Don't you have to be in the tax 5 years in a row to do lose picks? They should still be in the tax four out of every 5 years, and on that 5th year they should be just below it. -
Racists are scumbags. Schilling has said a lot of racist shit. Racism isn't fucking subjective. I'm not going to get into this with you, because I already know your stance on the subject. I'm disappointed that in America in 2020, we still have to litigate whether or not racism is bad.
