  1. Yeah, I think that you nailed it. I think that there are 3-5 guys on each team's list and the guy that they end up choosing has a lot to do with whether or not they can get a deal they're comfortable with.
  2. We're in agreement here...where your scouts have to do their work is to find the guys with a higher ceiling that also have a higher floor, relative to picks between 11-20, 20-30, etc. It's all relative.
  3. Let's just put it this way, it's about the ceiling/floor gap....I'm pretty much done because it's hard to explain and I'm at a loss for an explanation.
  4. It's not about only ceiling or only floor. It's about the combination of both. The gap becomes higher after the top 5, but it still exists.
  5. I don't see those guys as "safe." Poreda/Fields/Mitchell were unnecessarily risky picks, because they refused to pay players with a high ceiling and a higher floor. It's not necessarily a ceiling/floor thing, as much as a ceiling/floor combo thing. I'm on Crochet because I think that at #11, the ceiling/floor combo is enough to take that risk. I think that he's at least a Hader/Miller type if he stays healthy, and if everything goes right you have Chris Sale.
  6. See my edit. The slot system has leveled the playing field for the Sox.
  7. I'm talking about Ring, Anderson, Broadway, McCullough, Beckham..... Those guys were the exception not the rule. Back in the pre-slot days, the Sox used to take upside guys with real flaws, like Fields and Mitchell with the Ks, Poreda with no secondary pitch, Hawkins/Walker with the hit tool issues, etc.
  8. Drafting "safe" prospects is the road to a bottom 5 farm system. You're a Sox fan, we saw how that worked out from 2002-09. I don't necessarily believe that Crochet is a reliever. I think you give him a chance to start until he proves he can't. You're not getting the complete package at 11.
  9. I'm not saying that there isn't risk with Crochet.....but what do you expect outside the top 10? Ceiling, Ceiling, Ceiling.
  10. Crochet has a ++ slider and a + changeup. Poreda didn't have a second pitch and threw 97, which backed up to 94 in the pros.
  11. LOL......Ring was a lefty closer with marginal stuff.(90-93 mph fastball)
  12. Crochet is also a LHP. Big, huge massive difference.
  13. Big, huge thing. His stuff is electric......There aren't many pitchers out there with 3 plus pitches, and he as a ++fastball and slider, along with a + change. In a normal year, he'd be long gone by the time the Sox are up. We should thank our fortune if he's there. If he doesn't start, you have your closer for the Sox window anyway.
  14. I'd be happy with any of the following: Crochet, Abel, Pete Crow-Armstrong Indifferent: Detmers, Cavalli, Howard Unhappy: Bailey, Kjerstad(used to be high on him but the K/BB is a huge issue. Didn't know about that then) Ceiling, ceiling, ceiling.
  15. The Bears are cursed at QB and it's insanely difficult to win without one, so I say them. I'd love an excuse to like a different NFL team. I can't change now in my mid-30s. If someone had a gun to my head and I had to choose between the Sox and Blackhawks, I'd choose the Sox, but absent that: In order of elimination 1. Bears 2. Bulls 3. Hawks 4. Sox
  16. We'll never know. We can only speculate how his hit tool would have developed had he not had the injury.
  17. That was actually an unfortunate situation. The Sox are usually blasted for picks like that(children of team employees), so it was the wish of both father and son that he be allowed to pursue his pro career elsewhere. Props to Jerry/Kenny/Rick for respecting their wishes even though he's a good prospect.
  18. Based on what I've seen, it seems the Sox board is kinda like this: 1. Detmers 2. Abel 3. Crochet
  19. I don't think that's going to happen. By mid to late July I think most of the country is going to be SIP again. AZ and TX opened up earlier than anyone else and shit is about to hit the fan there. The rest of the populated states are about 4-6 weeks behind them. I miss sports as much as anyone, but I just don't see it. The US opened too early, I think it's pretty clear. 2020 is fucked, and probably winter of 21 as well. The best we could hope for is that we have this shit solved by next Spring.
  20. Sign me up in about 5 seconds. I don't think Fulton is going to make it to the Sox 2nd rounder.
  21. Jared Mitchell was a Jake Burger-type situation. He had a devastating injury that killed 18 months of development and sapped his speed. I truly believe that had he not been injured, he'd have had a Mike Cameron type offensive profile with more speed. Obv. Not as good of a defender, but similar offense.
