Machado signs with Padres 10/300
I think the Sox were in the lead until the last minute and then SD swooped in and stole him from the Sox.

That is what I believe. It isn't 100% fact, but I don't think they're planting anything on 2/17. If it was 12/17, sure. There isn't really time to negotiate through the media if they want to get ready by the time games start.

If this was December 17th instead of February 17th I'd be much more inclined to agree with you. There isn't time for misdirection and negotiation through the media anymore.

You're reading between the lines for things that aren't there dude. I get trying to be optimistic and keeping your hopes up. Just curious: What would your reaction be should the Sox fail on both whales?

All of Heyman's tweets today are about the Padres/Yankees. Be prepared to be disappointed folks. Get your torches and pitchforks ready.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
About two weeks ago, I was cautiously optimistic that the Sox would get one of them, for everyone's information. I put Machado on the Sox in MLB the Show. I will say this: If Machado signs with the Padres they will be the Sox fanbase's most hated NL organization outside of the Cubs, having stolen Tatis and Machado from the Sox. (or at least that will be the perception)

And there you have it. Machado is going to the Padres.

I'm starting to believe the Olney/Levine number about the Sox offer may have been the accurate one. Nobody's talking about the Sox anymore as a possibility nationally besides a brief mention, so I'm thinking it is down to Philly and San Diego. They're both getting one of them, and the Sox are going to be left empty handed. A majority of posters are going to be pissed in a week or two. To be honest, Moustakas back to Milwaukee kind of telegraphs Machado to SD.

Hansen hurt again?
Yeah, but if it is something like fraying can that actually heal with rest? Serious question.

Hansen hurt again?
Then I don't see why that isn't going to happen at some point this year. I mean if the ligament is gonna snap, it's going to snap. Just get it done asap.

Sox hitters already ready for camp // Burger is hitting off tee
I think that Lopez's ceiling is Carlos Carrasco, and that is fine.

QFT. This is absolutely beyond annoying. These guys just need to fucking sign or sit out the year at this point. If they want to take a 1-year high AAV deal, just fucking do it. Just sign already.

Hansen hurt again?
It's obvious the guy just can't be counted on, and it is a shame because he showed what he can do when healthy in 2017.

2019 Golf/PGA Tour Thread.
Getting close to the Florida Swing, which is my favorite non-major time of year in Golf. Love the Honda and Palmer tournaments. This year the Players Championship returns to the FL Swing, which makes it even better. fi Meanwhile at Riviera, Tiger Woods started his 3rd round with 3 birdies and an eagle thru 4 holes, before play was suspended for darkness. JMO: Justin Thomas is really good at golf but is also really unlikeable.

If they're shuffling IF around ,Should Machado sign with the Sox, that he'll play SS, Moncada will play 3B and Anderson goes to CF.

What happens first? Machado signs or page 825 ? I'm picking page 825.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Yeah, and when that happens, does the player take the most money or do other factors come into play?

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
Exactly. I'm not willing to call the offseason a colossal failure if they don't get one of them, because the Sox can only do so much. If they don't want to be here, there isn't much they can do. Also, if they don't want to be here, it doesn't make sense to sign them anyway because there is risk that either player will either cash a paycheck, request a trade, or opt out right before team becomes really good. I don't want either guy if they're not committed.

Listen, I don't think I've been all that irrational. Based on what we've heard so far, it seems like Machado and Harper don't want to be here. I think the Sox have a bigger potential market than 30% of the greater Chicago area, but they seem content with what they have. If they want to build the fanbase, they need to win and they need to be more aggressive in marketing and taking on the Cubs. There are advantages to GRF over Wrigley. 1) It is easier to get to. 2) it is easier to park your car 3) the food is better 4) it doesn't smell like piss and has modern restrooms. There are more reasons as well. The Sox marketing has to be willing to take on the Cubs and they haven't been. That is on JR and the board. With regard to the product on the field, while I won't deny that the Sox have less talent overall than the Braves and Padres, they also probably have accumulated the most high ceiling talent in the Majors. They have 3 players who have received, at one point or another in their career, a 65 FV: Moncada, Giolito, and Jimenez. Kopech has been a 60, and They also have two others who could reach 60 or 65 by the end of the season in Robert and Cease. That is a reason to be excited about the future. I felt significantly better about the future of the team last year, before Moncada and Giolito had their struggles, but the talent is still there for both of them and they're still 23 and 24 respectively. Lopez looks like a future Carlos Carrasco, so that is good news.

They were stroking him when he accumulated the talent, but nobody is ripping him for squandering it. I hope both Eloy and Cease are both stars on the South Side so they can continue to call Epstein a "genius". There is an incredible double standard that nobody is talking about.

They talked about the Cubs more in 2012, when they were losing 100+ games and the Sox were leading the division for 114 games before falling off at the end, but I digress......It was a lot of Epstein verbal fellatio.
