  1. My parents were at the Miracle on Ice and you cant tell them and I'm sure anyone else there or watching the game later on tv that it was just a game, not a moment. There was a lot more to that event then two teams playing hockey.
  2. Way before my time but even after reading all the hype about Secretariat, watching the youtube video of his Belmont race is just unbelievable.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) Perennial dud of a RB, Clinton Portis, was released today. He will inexplicably still be drafted in first rounds of fantasy drafts as he has been for the past 5 seasons. Perennial dud? Every season the guy has been healthy he's ran for atleast 1200 yards. Four seasons of 1500 yards. Sure he's been injured the last two seasons and is definitely on the tail end of career but he's been far from a perennial dud.
  4. SF needs to get rid of their announcers and get The Voice and Bas from HDNET.
  5. damn, that would suck. there is 3 in the Orlando area.
  6. Season starts off tonight. Very young starting pitching for Miami and one of our top hitters from last year, Chris Palaez is hurt and might miss most of the season. No one is picking Miami as an Omaha team but I think this team should be a dangerous one.
  7. QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 07:27 AM) Fedor and Arlovski, both probably done for good. Arlovski is done. He cant take a punch. Fedor is just too small for the new wave of elite heavyweights. He is still top 10 and could still beat some top 10 fighters but he isnt big enough for the guys who cut to get to 265. The division has changed in the last couple of years. We're now seeing guys between 275-290 cut down to 265. In the past, especially when Fedor dominated the heavyweight division, the top guys were all in the 235-250 range and the heavyweights who were at the 265 max were the slow, plodding types like Tim Sylvia. The most powerful guys Fedor fought in the 2000s were guys like Fujita,Randleman and Coleman and those guys topped out at around 230-250 max. Now I dont know who I'd want to win this tournament. Overeem winning should get him the top ranking and that would be nice to see Dana White pissed about that. But then again, there is no doubt Overeem juiced up during his career so that would suck. Barnett winning would be a nice comeback story, ala Coleman back in 2000, but he is a known cheater too. Maybe SF should have the last two rounds in Japan so Barnett, Overeem and Bigfoot can get back on the sauce haha.
  8. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) Call me an a-hole but if I'm the coach and I know the pitcher can't field his position, I'll take advantage of it...isn't that smart ball?Exploit the opponent's weakness... Depends, if the score is 3-2 or 3-1 in the last inning? No, you arent an a-hole. If youre winning or losing 9-0 in the last inning? Yes, you are an a-hole.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) One thing that Dilfer said about Newton that I agree with is how the ball seems to just fly out of his hand. After watching Locker in some of these workouts, Newton is far and away a better pick, IMO, than Jake. I think Newton has the best potential by far. He is a major work in progress but I'd take him over the other QBs because of the potential and because I dont think see the others as surefire franchise QBs.
  10. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) FWIW, I also think "Dr. Phillips" is the same H.S. that AJ went to, and, if I'm not mistaken, at least one other major leaguer. I believe they have a very high caliber, nationally ranked program that obviously plays to win. I think that also is relevant. Their roster spots are undoubtedly highly contested and not often given out for "feel good" reasons. Johnny Damon, Dan Miceli and Brian Barber played there and played in the majors at some point. I played there a few years after they came thru. But since the beginning of the 2000s, there has been a boom in new high schools being built in the area and the program has been average at best. There have been some losing seasons and some winning seasons but nothing more than a handful of games above .500. They may get a kid or two to go to college for baseball but there isnt an absurd amount of talent anymore.
  11. Trent Dilfer loved Cam Newton workout: PFT link In the past, Dilfer has said: About Sam Bradford
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) Hold on a second. They didn't say he can't go out for Junior Varsity. They said he didn't make the cuts for the Varsity team as a sophomore. And the way that article was written? C'mon, it couldn't come off more as an inflammatory piece of garbage. And this is another piece of s*** from a bad article. Who's saying that another coach would bunt every single time? You know what would happen if another team bunted in a situation where it was necessary? That team would be thrown under the bus for being "cowards" for making the correct baseball move. I dont know how tryouts are done in other places but when I went to school there, there was one tryout. Kids who played for the team before didnt tryout but new kids did. Then you were either placed on varsity or JV. And for your second point, that is why you put the kid in certain situations. I wouldnt put him in if it was 4-3 in the late innings. But if it was 7-0 in the last inning, why not let him finish it off. And the head coach is the one implying teams would bunt every time in order to take advantage of the kid. The head coach was searching for an out and found one in cutting this kid.
  13. link to story Very weak to cut him because he's a liability on bunts. The kid throws around 80 and is only a 10th grader. That is pretty good and there are ways to protect the kid out there. 1. Put him on JV. You cant tell me he isnt good enough to play for the JV team. 2. If you want him on varsity then only play him in games when youre up big or down big. Coaches and players arent going to be dicks and try to take advantage of a kid out there by bunting their way back into a game.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) What does an illegal gambling ring have to do with anything here? Did Mark say that he wanted Vick hurt because he illegally gambled? I mean if Mark hates gamblers, that wouldnt be hypocritical at all. Ive never heard of him illegally gambling. Youre the one who wants to try to simplify Vick's actions so it goes along with your point on hunters. Youre the one trying to compare the mentality of a hunter killing an animal to the mentality of Vick who killed dogs for not just entertainment value but also monetary value too. You cant just cherry pick the actions of what Vick did and compare that to anyone who has decided to hunt.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) Well unfortunately if you hunt and kill defenseless animals there is really no good argument for why you shouldnt be compared to Michael Vick. Unless of course you are employed as animal conservationist and are killing animals for conservation purposes only, taking no pleasure in the act. As soon as you enjoy the hunt, you are killing for fun. After that it is up to each individual to come up with their own rationalization for why its okay. I dont hunt, probably never will. When I was younger I really wanted to big game hunt. As I grew older I realized that killing a lion or whatever would do nothing but take away something that I truly felt was special. Since that point in time I have tried to be more judicious with how I interact with animals. I eat meat, and I rationalize that as okay because the animal would have been killed whether I bought the food or not. Horrible reasoning, but how else do I rationalize my complete hypocrisy on the issue. Are these hunters also running illegal gambling rings associated with hunt?
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) For instance?
  17. I think Vick is a POS but if he is truly sorry, actually becomes a better person and makes the necessary changes in his life then I hope he does well. Vick owes a lot of people money so I dont want to see him injured and unable to pay those people back. But I wont lie and say I wasnt hoping he'd play horribly in his return.
  18. Looks like Forcier is headed to Miami. I would rather have gotten Savage from Rutgers transfer here but I'm good with this from a depth standpoint.
  19. lol, so dumb but that makes it funny. especially when he went into the mind of Jennings.
  20. According to that article, the Bucs are by far the lowest in cap tied money. That should help get a free agent or two to come down.
  21. I would guess that 90% of the posters on this thread is unhappy with how the basketball season is going for their team.
  22. Did anyone talk about Christina Aguilera missing an entire line in the national anthem and coming under the O/U for total length by a couple of seconds. If I had the over and lost that bet because she forgot a few words, I'd be f***ing livid.
  23. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) that team is gonna dominate the NFC north for the next few years IMO. their depth is ridiculous, imagine them healthy? won't even be close I agree. Going to be hard to stop them in the near future.
