QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 16, 2012 -> 04:47 PM) I think the bandannas are to protect from pepper spray. Don't they know pepper spray is not the Chicago way.

Many of President Obama’s fervent devotees are young enough not to have much memory of the political world before the arrival of The One. Coincidentally, Obama himself feels the same way—and the White House’s official website reflects that. The Heritage Foundation’s Rory Cooper tweeted that Obama had casually dropped his own name into Ronald Reagan’s official biography on www.whitehouse.gov, claiming credit for taking up the mantle of Reagan’s tax reform advocacy with his “Buffett Rule” gimmick. My first thought was, he must be joking. But he wasn’t—it turns out Obama has added bullet points bragging about his own accomplishments to the biographical sketches of every single U.S. president since Calvin Coolidge (except, for some reason, Gerald Ford). Here are a few examples: On Feb. 22, 1924 Calvin Coolidge became the first president to make a public radio address to the American people. President Coolidge later helped create the Federal Radio Commission, which has now evolved to become the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). President Obama became the first president to hold virtual gatherings and town halls using Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc. In a 1946 letter to the National Urban League, President Truman wrote that the government has “an obligation to see that the civil rights of every citizen are fully and equally protected.” He ended racial segregation in civil service and the armed forces in 1948. Today the Obama administration continues to strive toward upholding the civil rights of its citizens, repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, allowing people of all sexual orientations to serve openly in our armed forces. President Lyndon Johnson signed Medicare signed (sic) into law in 1965—providing millions of elderly healthcare stability. President Obama’s historic health care reform law, the Affordable Care Act, strengthens Medicare, offers eligible seniors a range of preventive services with no cost-sharing, and provides discounts on drugs when in the coverage gap known as the “donut hole.” On August 14, 1935, President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act. Today the Obama administration continues to protect seniors and ensure Social Security will be there for future generations. In a June 28, 1985 speech Reagan called for a fairer tax code, one where a multi-millionaire did not have a lower tax rate than his secretary. Today, President Obama is calling for the same with the Buffett Rule. I imagine Bill Clinton will be especially receptive to Obama’s habit of shoehorning himself into the limelight previously occupied by others. As you can see, the bullet points make clear that while each president has done something historic or notable, Obama is carrying forward every one of those accomplishments since Coolidge. No wonder he always seems so proud of himself. The most narcissistic, egomaniacal douche to ever grace the halls of 1600.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) Gonna note that since AEI (pro-corporate, right-leaning think tank) scholar Norman Ornstein came out with a book (and a recent op-ed) that lays the blame for much of our current governmental dysfunction at the feet of the GOP, the Sunday morning news shows have stopped booking him as a guest. Gotta keep up that centrist "both sides do it!" credibility. Yeah shocking coming from the resident liberal at AEI.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 11, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) Lol, this thread is just more proof of how accepting people can really be. Jesus. And why the posting has deteriorated. Every topic is a big circle jerk.

Wouldn't Obama still be evolving if diarrhea mouth was not on the boob tube over the weekend?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 8, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) You said committing SSI fraud and "being on the dole for life" is "sweet." You could change my statement to living the sweet life and it still works. How do you count the people defrauding SSI with illegitimate disability claims? What sort of real estimates are there for this percentage? Oh come on, the gov't is all knowing. Like I said if its 10%, that is huge and would have a large impact on the unemployment rate. Over 2 % points. Here is a novel idea. Make it harder to qualify for benefits. And depression from not finding a job does not count.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) Yeah, those people on SSI disability are living the high life! That reply makes no sense as to what we were talking about. Who said anything about them living the high life. More regulation is a two way street. No counting the fraudsters in the unemployment number is dishonest. But I understand why. Because including them means no re-election. So carry on with the charade.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 8, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) comon guise, i was watchin MSNBC and they say the unemployment is going down. that means the economy is good. Obama 2012 My unemployment benefits are running out. No worries, just apply for SSI, they don't check for disabilities. That way you are on the dole for life. How sweet is that? Only in America, baby.
-
If B.O can get the participation rate down to, say,63%, and increase the already outrageous number of people receiving SSI, he may achieve a 5 % unemployment rate by November. If they put as much effort in regulating the fraud in the SSI program, or better yet, if the gov't actually accounted for the fraud in the unemployment numbers there would be no way in hell this idiot would get re-elected. Because the unemployment rate right now, with say a 10% fraud rate, would be north of 11%. Try selling that to America.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 7, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) I read something a while ago that 20-30% of women regret the decision, even years later. There are also studies that have shown that some women suffer from depression or other mental anxiety over it. I'm not suggesting that it's the overwhelming majority but enough to suggest it's not some easy to decision to be taken lightly for everyone. Along those lines, wondering if the gov't has ever done any studies of the effects of the procedure on women?

Ronald Reagan . . . was confronted by a bunch of screaming hippies back in his days as governor of California. They swarmed his car yelling at him for cutting education funding or some such. One fellow — who I like to imagine looked like Shaggy from Scooby Doo — held up a sign to Reagan’s car window saying “We are the future!” Reagan quickly grabbed a pen from his suit pocket and wrote something down on piece of paper and thrust it to his side of the window so the kid could read it. It said: “I’m selling my bonds!”

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) FYI we're down 25 billion on that deal right now, depending on the stock price of GM. And $17 billion in tax write-offs.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 12:09 PM) Well it's still pretty basic and apolitical why the deficit keeps growing. The deficit should expand during a recession. Didn't the gov't say the recession ended in the summer of 2010?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 11:10 AM) Frankly, Bullsh*t. You guys just don't want to admit that the policies you guys favor completely blew up everything, and that the government stepping in worked. I think the GM bond holders who were butt f***ed by this would disagree with you. And the taxpayers who are getting f***ed now because BO is allowing GM to write off previous losses against future profits would probably beg to differ too.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) This doesn't disagree with my previous statement. Stop the presses. The gov't misallocates resources.

Michael Hastings' new book, The Operators, jabs at what could be a vulnerable spot for the Obama Administration, the president's relationship with the troops. The book describes a visit to Baghdad: After the talk, out of earshot from the soldiers and diplomats, he starts to complain. He starts to act very un-Obamalike, according to a U.S. embassy official who helped organize the trip in Baghdad. He’s asked to go out to take a few more pictures with soldiers and embassy staffers. He’s asked to sign copies of his book. “He didn’t want to take pictures with any more soldiers; he was complaining about it,” a State Department official tells me. “Look, I was excited to meet him. I wanted to like him. Let’s just say the scales fell from my eyes after I did. These are people over here who’ve been fighting the war, or working every day for the war effort, and he didn’t want to take f***ing pictures with them?"

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) There seemed to be a decent amount of cross-over of dems and independents. Did that hold true in 2004 as well? It's very possible that both bases are unmotivated right now. Seems like that could be true right now. Have to think it will change as election nears, though.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) NH turnout dropped 18% among Republicans despite record overall turnout. I'm still hedging against this being a direct indication of a lack of enthusiasm for the 2012 election that will translate into an unmotivated base that doesn't turn out in strong numbers. It's still an indirect measure, and the base could rally strongly behind "anyone but Obama." But, as we saw in 2004, that isn't exactly a winning electoral strategy. I read Obama received less votes last night in NH than W did in 2004. 53k+ for W vs. a reported 49k+ for BO. Not sure if that is a harbinger of things to come though.

How refreshing would it be for Corzine to actually admit that the client funds will never be "found" because they no longer exist. They were used to meet margin calls on the rehypothecated assets. But to sit up there and say, "I do not know where the customer's funds are" is a flat out lie. I call bulls*** Corzine you scumbag.

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Say what? Explain your idea of how he had something to do with 2008. He was a job creator, in this time of economic crisis we need them! Did Frank run a business? I was not aware. And if so, how many people did he employ?
