I doubt if the Twins will leave after this season, they might give the city another year to get it done. If no stadium is deal is made by the end of the 2007 season then I think they will move on.
-
I have a feeling that Sosa will sign with Washington just to try and get to the 600 homer mark. He didn't last with Baltimore as a DH, I question he will cut it in Washington play the field. Most teams know he's the end of the line.
-
Regardless of the city, I question taxpayers will pay the cost of a new stadium, if put to a vote. If these teams want one the owners should pay for it. In this case MLB should pay for a stadium for the Nationals, their the ones who moved the Expos franchise to Washington D.C.
-
What a mess. I hope they get it settled and get a stadium built.
-
It sounds to me like the Nationals are as good as gone in D.C. A lot cities would be happy to have the franchise. If I am not mistaken, 2007 is the last year of the lease at RFK Stadium, so they will be gone after that season barring a last minute miracle.

That made my month!

Nice pictures, really nice.

I would pick either El Duque or Contreras. Also Bobby Jenks would have to be given some consideration since the Sox brought him up from AA ball in July and next thing we knew he pulled off the biggest save in White Sox history in game 4 of the World Series.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 02:06 AM) I didn't know he was available, that might be the best off season acquisition EVER. That could turn into a steal for the Twins. A minor league contract? He will make the regular season roster. Sure he is getting old but he should help them.

Happy Birthday Richie. He was a good one I remember him well.
-
Probably not a bad idea. Ozzie knows what he's doing. I also have agree that he will be a starter at some point in the season.

"Tigers could be dark-horse contenders in '06"

I think Detroit will be improved but not enough to contend for a play off spot. -
I am sure most White Sox fans will always love Frank Thomas. He even though he signed with Oakland, he will always be remembered as #35 with the White Sox. If it were up to me I would retire his number this season.
-
I have wondered that also. He was with the team for part of the year.
-
I would think there might be a couple to try and defect, but for the most part they probably won't risk it.
-
I always liked Shingo, it seems like he started out ok but he sure fizzled in a hurry. At 37 his playing days are over.
-
Unless Sosa signs with Washington, then I think his playing days are over because they are the only team I noticed that had interest in him.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) He's got "too much pride" That's what I think. He's go too much pride to sign a minor league contract.

I sure wouldn't trade Contreras, as Williamtell said, the injury factor. Also not sure if the Met's are willing to give him the quality players we would want. This could be wishful thinking on the Met's part.
-
I read on the Washington Nationals web site that the Nationals and Sammy Sosa are talking. From what I understood the Nat's are thinking of a minor league contract with a invite to spring training, but Sosa wants a major league contract. I doubt if he would sign a minor league contract.
-
I also was pretty certain he would have signed with a AL team. That really surprised me when the Padres signed him.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) Haha I've been trying to think of a name for them but I can't think of anything either. They probably wouldn't want Sharks so I don't know. They do need to change the name and colors though. Kinda just try to start over and try to get more apperal sold with better looking stuff. I also thought of the name sharks but didn't like the sounds of it. I don't have the slightest idea.

I don't see the Rays moving. If a team moves to Vegas it could be the Marlins, that wouldn't surprise me a bit. I can't really think of a good nick name for the Tampa Bay team.

QUOTE(heirdog @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Hmmm...the New Jersey Devils, Duke Blue Devils and Miroslav Satan don't seem to have a problem with the connotation. I think its time to find some other lame excuse for the lack of team success. I never heard anyone complain about the New Jersey Devils or Duke Blue Devils. However, the name Devil Rays sounds terrible, the sound of Tampa Bay Rays sound bad also. If it were me, I would hold a contest and let the fans choose a new name.
