how we learned to stop worrying and love fathom
QUOTE(Chifananthony @ Aug 31, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) With all the hoopla about this special season, it all comes down to this. If KW does not bring us a quality bat by the deadline the organization has failed us. This Griffey thing smaks of the sox not wanting to take enough of his salary to consumate a deal. Where there's a will there's a way. I could care less about prospects. When u have a chance to go to the series u do whatever it takes to get those players. Even if u overpay its understood. IF WE DO NOT GET HELP WE WILL NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, AND THIS WOULD BE A BIGGER CHOKE JOB THAN THE '69 FLUB CHOKE. KENNY DONT LET US DOWN!!!!!! Chill out Rook, you're gonna get a heart attack

Podsednik most overrated player?????
So this guy judges a player cause he doesn't hit home runs? What a baffon. Yeah Hank Blaylock is over rated, Yeah the Best Defensive 3rd baseman in the game is overrated, Yeah and Grienke he's soo overrated he's 22 and in the Bigs pitching for a sucky Royals team, Oh yeah Ichiro too, Cause he doesn't hit for power or Walk, Who in the hell needs to walk when you never K and hit an average of 220 hits per season. Overrated Yeah Dayn Perry as a Baseball writer, what a moron.

It occurs to me....
That's were scouting comes in. I don't think the SOx have been the most productive in that sense. You do mention some good names. But how long has it been since the Sox drafted, Developed an impact player? A so called Stud? 1989 And that was Frank Thomas and Early 90's when Maggs came around and still Maggs wasn't an impact player Like Frank

The White Sox Are DONE
QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) I thin it's becoming obvios that the White Sox played over their heads in the first half of the season. In the 2nd half, I think a couple points have been solidified, and I'd like to see what White Sox fans here think: 1) I know the price tag is high, and other teams haven't made significant moves, but Kenny Williams needs to do something to upgrade this lineup - even if just gives Ozzie Guillen another bat off the bench, anything! I realize Dmitri Young (or someone similar to him) isn't going to carry a ballclub, but he could be a contributor - right now, playing non-hitters like Geoff Blum, Juan Uribe, Timo Perez, Joe Crede, etc. from basically 6-9, 7-9 in the lineup regularly puts a lot of pressure on the top 6 hitters to do score most/all of the runs, and those guys aren't the type of players capable of doing that. 2) As we stand, the offense is pathetic. They do not have a #3 hitter in the lineup, and most of the hitters are #6 or #7 hitters (Dye, Everett, Rowand, Pierzyinski) in a good lineup. They don't usually put up more than a few runs in a game, putting tremendous pressure on the pitching staff to overcome the lack of run production. 3) Mark Buerhle is not an ace - he is a good pitcher, but no more than #2 on a pitching staff. 4) Jon Garland is pitching how he did last season in the 2nd half. Not consistent at all. 5) Freddy Garcia is the same pitcher he's been over his career - he seems to rise up/down according to his competition. 6) The White Sox need to make a decision about their closer - Hermanson should have the job, but he obviously isn't healthy. The bullpen has pitched well, but down the stretch I think you have to either go with him, or DL him and hope the team makes the playoffs and gets him back healthier OR go with Bobby Jenks down the stretch. 7) With all that, the problem isn't the pitching - yes, it has been uneven, but it can't be expected to win every game 3-2, 4-3. It has not been very often that the White Sox have won comfortably. - I'm not even sure the White Sox make the playoffs anymore. Sure, they still have a 6.5 game lead, and things could be even worse, but this team doesn't have an ace, is getting up and down performances for Garland, and has a closer who's injured, and haven't been depending on as much. The hitting is just not getting the job done, end of story. If they do make the playoffs, I see a first round, playoff exit. -- Feel free to offer your thoughts/commentary vs. my points, and let me add two more points - I don't think I'm overreacting - this has been going now for about 50 games, and, lastly, I'm a big White Sox fan, and watching this fall apart is really disappointing. Looking forward to good discussion. :headshake :banghead

It occurs to me....
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) Ok, so it's all about money. Why aren't the Mets in first? Why are Seattle and Texas behind Oakland? Hell, why is Anahiem behind Oakland? Why is Cleveland step-for-step playing with the Yankees? Why is Baltimore doing worse than Toronto? Money shouldn't be an excuse, ESPECIALLY for the White Sox. They're the highest payroll in the division. Quit trying to cry poor, there's plenty of money... WHY?? Good scouting and development of the farm that why. The Sox haven't been let's say.. Hmmm that good at it lately. After Buehrle and Rowand who else has been developed? No one.

Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
- The most hated sox player ever
He's My Countryman But Damn did a player ever Suck MORE than JAIME NAVARRO- Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
Begs the Question. What if they were cheating, But those pitches that were hit, were hit hard but for outs or let's say the Sox would have scored 8 or 9 and Marky boy would have won, Would he have mentioned the cheating? Hmmmmm. Loser's Limp? Frustration? Excuses? Cheating? ... No one knows- Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
Ohh Ohhh There goes this thread.- AJ Pierzynski
If you got it why you ask? :banghead- Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:54 AM) Tell me that they couldnt change the signs per inning, maybe change the indicator or the sequence. I dont mind that Buerhle spoke his mind, but AJ and our coaching staff should be able to adapt to sign stealing. And who are we to talk about stealing signs. We for many a year employed one of the best sign stealers in baseball as a bench coach. Lets get real. I don't think Nossek stole pitches and Location. Was more like bunt and steal signs and stuff. I think telling your hitters what's comming is lil more disgusting. I could be wrong on Nossek tho- Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
Well Tadahito Eguchi didn't help Marks cause either- Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
I hate Phil Rogers. Anyways, Mark sould have hushed and told the team and sould have looked out and then say something, Now texas will be carefull. Wow Cheating those are real Pros I mean something is fishy when Mark DeRosa takes you deep- Rekindled interest
QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) I have the 1958 team set, as well as 1966 and 1976 thru 2005. Still working on the early 70's though. Had to put a stop to the collecting since I moved earlier this month. No time, or money! Got anydoubles you'd like to send over? I mean if you don't want doubles, I'm trying to make a scrap book of the SOx teams. I got complete 1987, 1989,1990, 91, 92, Missing 2 from 93. After that i only have one or 2 cards of each year. I'm missing almost all of the 1988 seasons cards and some 86. Got a few 85 season. Before that nothing. Just asking- Ron Karkovice
I luvvvv to watch Kark Throw- Ron Karkovice
Just look at the Cowardly Lion from the Wizzard of Oz and you've got Ron- Personal Attacks
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) We just took an agressive stance on excessive attacks of players (ie the ones that get personal) and now Soxtalk is going to continue with this stance and apply it to posting. We'd like to see Soxtalk as the #1 site for Sox discussion and to do that we want everyone to feel comfortable posting amongst each other. Lots of us have gained friendships via the site and all of us have gained tons of knowlege during our time spent on the boards. Whether you come here once a month or multiple times a day were going to do our best to continue to improve Soxtalk. The next step to doing so, in our mind, is to agressively root out personal attacks. I know we've always had a policy when it came to personal attacks, but now were going to truly enforce that policy. If you see someone make a post you think is stupid or offensive...dont' respond to it by calling them an asshole or a moron. Either disagree with them by putting together an argument for why the person is wrong, report the post (which the mods/admins will than look at) or totally ignore the post. This has nothing to do with limiting discussion, in fact, we feel it will do the opposite. When people are comfortable to post without getting slammed, we'll see better discussion and debates on the site and I think we'll see the site become the friendlier place it once was. In terms of our policy, we will be suspending posters for 7-10 days upon first offense. So please, take note of this and take a few seconds to think before you reply in a post. Obvoiusly us admins/mods won't be able to catch every personal attack, but if we catch most of them and enforce the rules the attacks should gradually dissapear. If anyone has any comments (for or against) feel free to post them in this thread (its always nice seeing feedback so we know where the varying members stand on certain issues) or if its something thats more private, feel free to PM or email any of the admins/mods. Pretty Good But, 1. There can't be Power sick Mods, Just because you're a mod it doesn't mean you're always right (No one in particular, just saying) You can't shut up someone with the power threat 2. There sould be a limit of post before anybody can start a thread, Not to be mean or anything but there's been really stupid threads posted of Non Sense that really no one cares about and that's what starts things, same go for polls (Everyone knows how i feel about those when there used for stupidity) 3. I say about the post limit before able to start a thread is the fact that as someone said a lot of newbies will come around in the playoffs, Many of them bangwagon fans and many that won't come back to hte board and if the Sox lose a game then the bashing starts mostly on Ozzie. Hey it's ok to disagree and say hey Oz get your head outta your behind and so and so, But a whole thread? and multiple ones of the same crap? And for last, you guys do a good job keeping this place up and i tip my cap, but i do hate a lot of the Arse kissing around here. That said, those are my 2 cents sorry if it's a lil harsh, I've signed up for many boards and only spend time here on Soxtalk and of Course my principal board on Worldcrossing. I do admit you guys have been good to me and have done a good job getting rid of a few troublemakers such as Ncrolbl and Brando and so on. Thanks- The Price of a Shortstop
And IF Fields is ever Ready. I would prefer to go after Furcal than Mueller- CY Sleeper
The Writters gave the CY to Halladay, He didn't steal it from E-lo- Count or Loiaza?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Loaiza is making $2.9M this season on a one year deal. Contreras made $7M this year and $8M next year, with some of that being picked up by the Yankees. How is Contreras cheaper? For some reason i was thinking the yanks picked up most of that.. :banghead - The most hated sox player ever
