  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) I do think if MacDougal struggles enough and Wasserman keeps on producing at AAA, MacDougal will be optioned/traded/DFAed (or hell, maybe all 3) and Wasserman will be up soon enough. That would be fine with me. If Mac can return to '05/'06 form, great. If not, it's nice to know that he's expendable.
  2. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) yeah it very well could be the trainers...i know the guys over at baseball prospectus think herm schneider is the best trainer in the league. they definitely do something right, along with a little bit of luck probably... because we have been unbelievably healthy over the years Herm's awesome. A heck of a nice guy as well.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 06:52 AM) I think Brandon will still have a very good major league career, but in the long run the combination of both Massett and Danks is better than McCarthy. If Danks has turned the corner on pitch count, Danks versus BMac could be a wash, with Massett being the gravy. Agreed. Also keep in mind that Danks was acquired when Buehrle's long-term status with the Sox was up in the air. Kenny most likely wanted to acquire another LHSP, just in case. I liked what I saw from Danks during the first half of last year and am chalking up his decline over the second half to a lack of arm conditioning. I think that he'll eventually be a really solid #2.
  4. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) Indians and Tiggers do not look that imposing suddenly....Kenny was right; we can win this division if we decide to play every at bat with focus. If only we can cut down on the # of swings on the 1st pitch, we will be so much better. I'm surprised at all of the hoopla over the Tigers. They can slug the crap out of the ball, but many of those sluggers are on the wrong side of 30 (Maggs, Pudge, Sheffield's almost 40). Given that Kenny Rogers is a dinosaur, Nate Robertson's performance in '06 was a fluke, and Dontrelle sucked last year, nobody in their rotation outside of Verlander and Bonderman impresses me (and the latter has only had one really good season). And aren't Zumaya and Rodney both injured... again? They'll probably win 85 games, but I imagine that they'll be on the wrong side of a number of 10-7 contests. The Jndians are still the team to beat, and I actually like them better offensively than Detroit (especially in terms of age). Their bullpen might be their Achilles Heel this year.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) Positives today already: John Danks. Sub-positives: Rebuilt bullpen works. Yep, these are going to be key this year. Danks being able to anchor the middle of the rotation and the long relief being able to step up when needed will be necessary for the Sox to be playoff material. That and Contreras having a halfway decent season. Oh, and the Sox just won.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 06:45 AM) Is there any doubt that Alexei should be the one to go to AAA? He's not ready. Both Quentin and BA should be in the lineup today I'd like to see BA in CF. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 06:49 AM) they need to start calling him Cerrano. He needs some time in the minors flailing at junk. "I say, 'F**k you Jobu, I do it myself!'"
  7. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) Worse than Hawk...LOL in what way? Farmer's a good color commentator. As an play-by-play guy, he's mediocre. "Sucks" is a term reserved for people like Chris Singleton. Agreed about Stoney, though. He's probably the best color guy in baseball.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) You know what? This team looked like they wanted the win badly, and when they lost, they were not happy. Last season it almost looked as if they didnt care win or lose, this team looks to have alot of fight in it. +1 Better to lose hungry than indifferently, like last year. I don't know if these guys have the pitching to make it to the playoffs this year, but I like their attitude.
  9. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) Well, they played with a lot of heart today. The problem was, they not only had to play against the Indians, but the umpires as well. Well said, Mr. Holmgren.
  10. Gotta love the way that these guys are battling back from the 7-2 deficit. Looks a lot more like the '06 squad than last year's.
  11. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) There was NO CHANCE for a DP but it wasnt dirty Thanks. Farmer was still b****ing about it during the top of the 5th.
  12. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) God, is OCab going to nearly get killed on every play at SS or what??? Farmer and Stoney said it was uncalled for. Was it really that bad?
  13. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) an error on a double play ball to OCab got MB frazzled. The ump also missed a few calls after that but MB just didnt have it today... Mark is probably the last pitcher in the league that would get "frazzled" by an error. He just flat-out didn't have it today.
  14. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) With the rotation we have, it's entirely possible. You guys must not have followed the Sox in the late '80s.
  15. Wow. I can't remember the last time that AJ threw somebody out at second.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 12:26 PM) Which is why you always can't use a box score. Ocab missed a ball early that probably a SS with better range has, then a ball hit RIGHT to short ate Cabrera up, it should have been a sure DP. We are not looking at 5-2 game. Mark still got lit up after those miscues. He earned all but one of those runs.
  17. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) Indians are going to walk away with this division. Like how we were supposed to in 2006? Or the Tigers were supposed to last year?
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) But what about jeremy reed and Mike Morse?
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) MMac has one option year remaining. Not sure exactly how but that's been reported repeatedly, it has something to do with his DL time I think. Thanks. Did not realize that.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) The more I think about it, we really don't need both MacDougal and Wasserman on the roster. Given the Spring that MacDougal has been having, I'd say that he gets the nod. (Plus, Wassermann has three options left and Mac has none.) When Mac is on, he's effective. But keep him on a short leash. If he's putting up '07 numbers for the first month and a half, cut his ass and bring Wassermann up.
  21. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:12 PM) Of all the prospects that Kenny has dealt away, who do we really regret losing? Poor GM, eh? I wouldn't say he's a poor GM, at least he has the cojones to go after people. Unlike his predecessor, who sat on his ass and did nothing when the Sox were in the playoff hunt back in '96. Kenny has a number of well-documented flaws, but his aggressive approach has been overwhelmingly positive for the Sox.
  22. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) He wasn't injured last year however Bull. Dye was banged up with minor injuries for most of the first half of last year.
